[OVERVIEW]
Porygon2 has a solid niche on bulky offense teams, as it can spread paralysis with Thunder Wave and check a group of anti-offense Pokemon that no other Pokemon can, including Sharpedo, Swellow, Speed Boost Yanmega, and various Dragon Dance users such as Flygon and Feraligatr. It is one of the bulkiest walls thanks to its defensive stats alongside Eviolite and a solid Normal typing, which also lets it decently check many wallbreakers, such as Nidoqueen, Gardevoir, Roserade, and Mega Glalie. Porygon2 also has access to many good moves to help it at its job such as Thunder Wave, Foul Play, and the BoltBeam combination. Its ability Trace, which has decent utility in general, allows Porygon2 to copy abilities, such as Slowbro and Slowking's Regenerator, Nidoqueen's Sheer Force, Mantine's Water Absorb, Alolan Persian's Fur Coat, and Kommo-o's Bulletproof. Despite these perks, Porygon2 can be handled due to its reliance on Eviolite, which makes it weak to Knock Off, and its inability to use Leftovers, which makes it easily worn down by entry hazards and other form of residual damage. It's also weak to Fighting-types, namely Heracross, Pangoro, Virizion, and Kommo-o, which are very common and can easily beat Porygon2.

Moves
========
Recover is used to maintain Porygon2's longevity so that it's a consistent blanket check throughout the battle. Thunder Wave is used for some speed control, crippling fast threats such as Zoroark, Salazzle, and Virizion by halving their Speed stat. Ice Beam hits Dragon-, Grass-, Ground-, and Flying-types such as Tyrantrum, Venusaur, Gligar, and Swellow for super effective damage, and Thunderbolt hits Water-types such as Mantine and Feraligatr super effectively and most Ice-resistant Pokemon for neutral damage. Alternatively, Foul Play is a reliable move that significantly damages many of the physical attackers in the tier, such as Mega Glalie, Escavalier, and Doublade, as well as threatening other physical setup sweepers. Tri Attack can be used instead of Thunderbolt to hit a bit harder, but Porygon2 gets walled by Steel-types and Mantine without Thunderbolt. Toxic can be used instead of Thunder Wave to cripple bulkier Pokemon such as Cresselia, Mantine, and Slowbro.
Set Details
========
252 HP EVs maximize Porygon2's overall bulk, and 152 Special Defense EVs and a Calm nature allow Porygon2 to check most special attackers in the tier such as Nidoqueen, Choice Specs Zoroark, Choice Specs Swellow, and Moltres, as well as being able to stomach a +2 Acid Downpour from Salazzle. The remaining 104 EVs are put in Defense to increase physical bulk a bit, allowing it to check Sharpedo, Flygon, Honckrow, and Cloyster. The defense EVs in particular are very useful in allowing Porygon2 to stomach Adamant Flygon's Devastating Drake after Stealth Rock and KO back with Ice Beam. Eviolite makes Porygon2 bulkier, increasing both its defensive stats. Trace is Porygon2's best ability, as it allows it to copy the foe's ability. Download can be used instead of Trace to at times get a +1 boost in Special Attack and hit harder, but Trace has better overall utility.
Usage Tips
========
Porygon2 should avoid Knock Off and Trick at all costs, as it becomes far less useful without its Eviolite. Porygon2 can use its bulk to tank a hit from strong attackers such as Feraligatr and Gardevoir and cripple it with Toxic or Thunder Wave. Pivot Porygon2 into special attackers such as Nidoqueen, Dragalge, and Swellow; however, make sure you keep it healthy to ensure its ability to check threats and pivot. Use Trace to take advantage of the foe's ability, such as by switching into Kommo-o's Focus Blast and taking no damage by copying Kommo-o's Bulletproof; switching into Shaymin and recovering from status with Natural Cure; and switching into Slowbro and recovering HP with Regenerator. Porygon2 can also use Trace to spot Zoroark, as it can't copy Illusion. Keep Porygon2 away from status ailments, as Toxic reduces its staying power and wears it down, and paralysis can make it lose a turn of recovery and prevent it from outspeeding Pokemon such as Rhyperior. As Porygon2 lacks passive recovery, it should avoid switching in when there are entry hazards on its side of the field.
Team Options
========
As Porygon2 is useless without its Eviolite, it needs Knock Off and Trick switch-ins; Z-Crystal holders, Fighting-types, and Fairy-types such as Z-Heal Bell Diancie, Flame Orb Heracross, and Florges are good examples of them. Checks to Fighting-types, such as Florges, Gligar, and Slowbro, patch up Porygon2's weakness to them. A Heal Bell user such as Florges, Umbreon, and Diancie is needed, as Porygon2 is easily crippled by status. Jellicent is a decent stallbreaker that can act as a reliable check to bulky setup sweepers such as Snorlax, Reuniclus, and Cresselia and can switch into Fighting-type attacks. Doublade is also a decent check to Snorlax and Fighting-types, in general, and appreciates Porygon2's ability to switch into special attackers, but both are weak to Knock Off. Wallbreakers such as Shaymin and Moltres are appreciated, as Porygon2 struggles to break past walls and bulky teams. Nidoqueen and Roserade are two grounded Poison-types that can absorb Toxic Spikes and set entry hazards to pressure the opponent, as Porygon2 forces switches.

Other Options
=============
An offensively oriented set with the ability Download; the moves Tri Attack, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Recover; and 84 EVs in Speed to outspeed Mantine with investment in Special Attack stat can be run. A Trick Room set can be used with Download; it struggles to beat most balanced teams but has a good matchup against offensive teams. A Z-Conversion set with Download makes a good alternative to the offensive and Trick Room sets if you want to run Porygon2 offensively, but it isn't recommended. Magic Coat bounces back entry hazards and status such as Mantine's Toxic, but using it requires careful prediction.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Knock Off Users**: As Porygon2 relies heavily on Eviolite to tank attacks, it loses much of its tanking ability if hit by Knock Off from the likes of Heracross, Donphan, and Zoroark.
**Fighting-types**: There are plenty of Fighting-types in the metagame. Heracross, Virizion, Pangoro, and Kommo-o can hit Porygon2 for super effective damage, although Virizion and Kommo-o can't switch safely on Ice Beam, and most of them are crippled by paralysis.
**Wallbreakers**: Wallbreakers beat Porygon2 easily. Choice Band Bruxish and Choice Band Tyrantrum 2HKO Porygon2, Shaymin can use Seed Flare to drop Porygon2's Special Defense and 2HKO it at -2, and Choice Specs Gardevoir can easily break though Porygon2 with Focus Blast.
**Bulky Steel-types**: Bulky Steel-types such as Ferroseed, Registeel, and Bronzong can wall Porygon2 and proceed to cripple it or set up on it.
**Setup Sweepers**: Pokemon that do not mind Toxic or Thunder Wave, such as Calm Mind Reuniclus, Curse Snorlax, Calm Mind Espeon, and Substitute variants of Cresselia, can all use Porygon2 as setup bait
