Project USUM OU Victim of the Week [Week 49: Dragon Dance Gyarados]

Thanks for the votes. Work is piling up on me but I'll hopefully have time during the weekend
Checks: Latios (Snorzd ) / Ash-Greninja (écarlate )
Counters: Mega Latias (david0895 ) / Chansey (Cheryl. )

The victim this week is AoA Mega Diancie.

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 8 Atk / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Hidden Power Fire
- Nature Power / Earth Power / Psychic

Mega Diancie makes a return from XY and is better than ever thanks to not having to run Protect and reduce its Speed IV to run Hidden Power Fire. Moonblast and Diamond Storm hits common Pokemon in OU such as Latios, Zygarde, Mega Charizard-Y and Volcarona super-effectively while Hidden Power Fire punishes Scizor and Ferrothorn if they switch in recklessly. Nature Power allows Mega Diancie to blast through Celesteela and Toxapex if paired with Tapu Koko while Earth Power is valuable to OHKO Magnezone and Heatran. Psychic can also be used in conjunction with Psychic Terrain to get rid of Mega Venusaur and Toxapex.

AV Magearna as a Counter

Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fleur Cannon
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power Fire / Ice Beam
- Volt Switch

With its amazing typing and special bulk, Magearna can come into many special/mixed attackers (including M-Diancie) without worrying too much of being 2HKOed or 3HKOed (or even 4HKOed!). In this case, M-Diancie's Earth Power only has a minuscule chance of 3HKOing AV Magearna if SR are not up (and it's not even guaranteed that M-Diancie will carry that move). In return, AV Magearna simply OHKOs it with Flash Cannon. Moreover, AV Magearna's Volt Switch helps it escape Magnezone's Magnet Pull, which can prove to be very useful, since M-Diancie is often paired with it.
8 Atk Diancie-Mega Diamond Storm vs. 200 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 72-86 (20.5 - 24.5%) -- 4.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
248 SpA Diancie-Mega Nature Power vs. 200 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Magearna in Electric Terrain: 76-90 (21.6 - 25.6%) -- 58.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
248 SpA Diancie-Mega Earth Power vs. 200 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Magearna: 102-120 (29 - 34.1%) -- 56.5% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

56 SpA Magearna Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Diancie-Mega: 468-552 (194.1 - 229%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Banned deucer.
Gonna take Dugtrio for this
DUGTRIO AS A CHECK

Dugtrio @ Groundium Z
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Screech
- Substitute
- Toxic / Stone Edge / Reversal
There are many Dugtrio sets, but this is the premier one, as Tectonic rage picks up many more KOes that Choice Band and Focus Sash are incapable of. Dugtrio outspeeds and traps Mega Diancie. With a bit of chip damage, it doesn't have to use its Z-Move:
252 Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie: 192-228 (79.6 - 94.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
This means that at the highest rolls, it can trap Mega Diancie and then another threat if given a bit of chip. It's not as reliable as Tectonic Rage, however, as getting that chip can be tough with Mega Diancie bouncing back Stealth Rock, Spikes, and status. Thus, it's best to just go for the Z-Move:
252 Atk Dugtrio Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie: 344-408 (142.7 - 169.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
There is, however, a nasty problem. Diancie won't be killed if it got a Diamond Storm boost:
252 Atk Dugtrio Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. +2 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie: 174-206 (72.1 - 85.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
That's quite a bit of chip needed on it.
There is, however, a nice catch to duggy here - it can, in fact, switch in!
248 SpA Diancie Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Dugtrio: 153-181 (72.5 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
The only move that can KO Dugtrio is Grassy Terrain Nature Power.
The set is standard - Screech and Toxic to give more utility vs stall, Sub to avoid status, standard EV spread to outspeed and KO threats. You can use Stone Edge to get rid of Zard Y and Volcarona, if you're gutsy enough to get it in on a predicted switch-in. Reversal alongside Substitute can be pretty nasty.
Overall, Dugtrio can switch in and nab the KO easily. It cannot allow Diancie to get the Diamond Storm boost, but given that said boost isn't obtained, it can come in and win without condition.

Ash-Greninja as a check

Probably the best check with Protean Greninja, since Mega Diancie can sometimes tank the attacks of some of its physical checks at +2.
Greninja bypass this problem with its Special Attack

252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Diancie-Mega: 470-554 (195 - 229.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO (base form)

252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Water Shuriken (20 BP) (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Diancie-Mega: 348-414 (144.3 - 171.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Dugtrio Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. +2 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie-Mega: 228-270 (94.6 - 112%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

0 Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. +2 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie-Mega: 172-208 (71.3 - 86.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. +2 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie-Mega: 152-180 (63 - 74.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. +2 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie-Mega: 186-218 (77.1 - 90.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Celesteela is Life

Gastrodon-East @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Recover
- Scald
- Earth Power
- Toxic

Gastrodon is a Counter to Mega Diancie, easily eating up Moonblasts and any other of Mega Diancie's moveset, while having Recover to recover the damage off and continue to switch into M-Diancie. Gastrodon 2HKOes Mega Diancie with both of its STABs, forcing it out. The only feasible way Mega Diancie could beat Gastro is with Nature Power in Grassy Terrain when paired with Bulu, which isn't very common anyways as Mega Diancie would rather run Nature Power with Koko or Lele.

248 SpA Diancie-Mega Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 148-175 (34.7 - 41%) -- 99.2% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Gastrodon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Diancie-Mega: 168-198 (69.7 - 82.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock / Heal Bell

Chansey puts Diancie under a lot of pressure in the respect that, provided it is healthy (over approx. 70%-ish), it is able to switch in without really feeling any kind of offensive pressure from Diancie and then proceeds to exert a little pressure of its own between its ability to alternate between recovering off damage and chipping away at Diancie with Seismic Toss and its ability to force Diancie to switch out, meaning that it needs to take more hazard damage before the cycle repeats itself. Chansey's ability to avoid being pressured by max SpA Mega Diancie makes it a very consistent stop to it.

Check (Counter outside Electric Terrain)

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Flamethrower
- Heavy Slam

Celesteela only fears a Nature Power in Electric Terrain, which doesn't 1HKO, and can reteliate back with a Heavy Slam, which 1HKOs even when Diancie is at +2.

Calcs:
4 Atk Diancie-Mega Diamond Storm vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Celesteela: 159-187 (39.9 - 46.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 Atk Diancie-Mega Diamond Storm vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Celesteela: 159-187 (39.9 - 46.9%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (the minute 2HKO chance is irrelevant as Celesteela can just use Protect)
252 SpA Diancie-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 110-130 (27.6 - 32.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Diancie-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela in Electric Terrain: 246-290 (61.8 - 72.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. +2 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie-Mega: 244-292 (101.2 - 121.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Check (almost Counter)

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Flamethrower
- Heavy Slam

This Celesteela is not 2HKO'd by anything that Diancie may carry. Even with rocks up, the chance for the 2HKO is incredibly minute, especially if Electric Terrain isn't on the field. 4 Attack EVs guarantee that Heavy Slam 1HKOs Diancie at +2.

Calcs:
4 Atk Diancie-Mega Diamond Storm vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Celesteela: 159-187 (39.9 - 46.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 Atk Diancie-Mega Diamond Storm vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Celesteela: 159-187 (39.9 - 46.9%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Diancie-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 164-194 (41.2 - 48.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Diancie-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 164-194 (41.2 - 48.7%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Diancie-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 110-130 (27.6 - 32.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
4 Atk Celesteela Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. +2 0 HP / 0 Def Diancie-Mega: 244-292 (101.2 - 121.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
You forgot to include Electric Terrain in your T-bolt calcs. It should look like this:

248 SpA Diancie-Mega Nature Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela in Electric Terrain: 246-290 (61.8 - 72.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Therefore, Celesteela should be careful when dealing with M-Diancie if Nature Power has yet to be revealed (and when Electric Terrain is up).

Specially Defensive Hippowdon as a counter

Fiona (Hippowdon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind / Stone Edge / Toxic

Specially Defensive Hippowdon is actually a pretty decent set for this nowadays-uncommon mon that lets it handle common physical and special attackers including Mega Diance, Mega Pinsir, Specs Tapu Koko, Physical Tapu Koko, and more.

252 SpA Diancie-Mega Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Hippowdon: 177-208 (42.1 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Unless there is a Bulu and Diance is carrying Nature Power, you sit in the face of Mega Diance and threaten back with EQ which has a 50% chance to OHKO. This also means you are one of the few Stealth Rocks setters to actually threaten out Diance successfully and let you SR on the switch.

This spread still handles physical attackers decently. For example, you are almost never 2HKO'd after SR from Jolly Mega Pinsir's Return, so you can still Slack Off and Whirlwind (or Stone Edge) it out and Banded Zygarde's Thousand Arrows is only a 3HKO.

Scarf Keldeo as a Check

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid/Hasty Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Stone Edge/Icy Wind
- Scald/Surf

Pretty straight forward Diance check. Keldo does not fear the +2 defense boost and can easily revenge kill it with scald as it always kills from full.

252 SpA Keldeo Scald vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Diancie-Mega: 270-318 (112 - 131.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Hi, the time for voting is up.
Checks: Ash-Greninja (david0895 ) / Dugtrio (BPGXMG )
Counters: AV Magearna (GnralLao ) / Chansey (Martin )

Anyway, the victim for this week is Calm Mind Mega Latias.

Latias @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power / Psyshock
- Thunderbolt / Surf
- Recover

Mega Latias makes use of its great bulk and relative lack of moves that threaten it to set up and threaten passive teams who couldn't do more than the amount Recover heals. Stored Power allows Mega Latias to become a formidable breaker as it accumulates boosts while Psyshock offers more immediate Offensive presence if needed. Thunderbolt allows Celesteela to muscle past Celesteela, Mantine, Greninja and Jirachi while Surf allows Mega Latias to hit Tyranitar and Heatran harder. While Mega Latias dislikes residual damage, it is also used to absorb Will-O-Wisps so that it doesn't have to worry about Toxic and Thunder Wave in the late game.

EDIT:
Congratulations to Cheryl. ,écarlate , Randomnick ,TURBODERP , Martin and The Bill Cipher for making it into the Hall of Fame!!!

EDIT 2:
Please note the correction in EVs. I made a mistake earlier.

Reserving Hoopa-U

Check

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Band
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Gunk Shot
- Fire Punch
- Drain Punch

Hoopa-U is immune to Psychic moves thanks to its typing, has a high Special Defense to shrug off even boosted coverage options (+1 Thunderbolt / Surf deals 48% max) and easily OHKOes Mega Latias with Hyperspace Fury.

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Superpower

Tyranitar as a counter. Tyranitar is immune to Mega Latias' Psychic STAB attacks and easily OHKOs with Crunch or Pursuit. Thunderbolt does very little damage to Tyranitar and Surf doesn't 2HKO.

4 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 58-69 (17 - 20.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock
4 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 116-138 (34 - 40.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 4 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 87-103 (25.5 - 30.2%) -- 3.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 4 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 174-206 (51 - 60.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 4 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 116-137 (34 - 40.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 4 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 232-274 (68 - 80.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+3 4 SpA Latias-Mega Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 288-340 (84.4 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Latias-Mega: 378-446 (103.8 - 122.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Mega Mawile as a check.

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Fire Fang

Mawile can take a +2 Thunderbolt, survive, and retaliate with Play Rough. If Mega Latias has taken a good chunk of damage (like, from U-turn or smth), it also has to play mind games against Sucker Punch; if it just wants to switch out, it risks Swords Dance (which isn't on this set but the opponent doesn't know that)

Calcs:

+2 4 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 181-214 (68.5 - 81%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 4 SpA Latias-Mega Stored Power (100 BP) vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 150-177 (56.8 - 67%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 4 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 136-160 (51.5 - 60.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Latias-Mega: 474-560 (130.2 - 153.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Latias-Mega: 248-292 (68.1 - 80.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

AV Magearna as a counter

Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Fleur Cannon
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power Fire / Ice Beam
- Volt Switch

It can enter whenever it wants and force Mega Latias out thanks to its combinations of bulk, typing and Fleur Cannon

Mega Latias:

+1 0 SpA Latias-Mega Stored Power (60 BP) vs. 200 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Magearna: 29-34 (8.2 - 9.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+1 0 SpA Latias-Mega Psyshock vs. 200 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 76-90 (21.6 - 25.6%) -- 1.4% chance to 4HKO

+1 0 SpA Latias-Mega Surf / Thunderbolt vs. 200 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Magearna: 57-68 (16.2 - 19.3%) -- possible 6HKO
