For the first time, Pokémon is combining their Trading Card and Video Game Regionals for one incredible event! The SoCal Regional, located at the Long Beach Convention Center is a new location for Video Game players. With a new tournament format, everyone gets to play and no one gets eliminated, so come join some of the toughest and most skilled trainers in the region at the 2012 Pokémon VGC SoCal Regional.

Information:
  1. Regionals has now become a 2 day event. The first day is for the card game, and the 2nd is for the video game.
  2. The tournament will not be single elimination anymore. Matches for tournaments are set up using the Swiss Pairing Method. In this method, all players in a tournament play in each round against an opponent with a similar win/loss record. Players are not paired against opponents they have previously played. You are paired with a random opponent through the computer that has the same record as you.
  3. There will be no Top Cut. This means that results will be based off of Swiss standings. Tiebreakers (your opponent's win %) will be used to determine placing.
Prizes:
All participants will receive 5 Play! Points, and a Pokémon Regional Championships promo card (while supplies last), just for playing!

Finally, a VGC that I can actually participate in. I'll be there for the Master's Division. I'm glad to see that this tournament isn't elimination. That would suck for those of us who have to travel.

Also, any idea when the start time is going to be?

V17 Oct 23rd, 2011 1:06:00 AM

Ill be there, since its in my hometown. Hopefully i can make my last year in seniors count.

Ramen King Oct 23rd, 2011 5:53:18 AM

Having never done one of these before, all I would have to do is show up and leave a trail of decimated trainers to the championship? No city/town/village local tournaments? Sounds kind of nice.

Huy Oct 23rd, 2011 12:46:10 PM

Except California is one of the most stacked competitions. Good luck ;[

Have you ever encountered someone using a "non-competitive" or story team at a VGC tournament?

Huy Oct 24th, 2011 12:41:35 AM

Plenty. I'm working on an Ash team atm.

DoubleJG Oct 24th, 2011 12:53:57 AM

Based on your signature, I'm expecting to see a Tauros in the lineup.

lilchiz34 Oct 29th, 2011 6:38:50 PM

Superpokemon67 Oct 29th, 2011 6:46:18 PM

All you do is show up with a legal team. You don't have to call in advance, or reserve a spot or anything. Just show up.
