Smogon University PO Statistics — October 2011
***If you want to see stats for a metagame that isn't listed, shoot me a PM, and I'll throw it up. It literally takes me two minutes.*** Hey people! It's November, and that means it's time for more usage stats! Thanks to the tireless efforts of Innocent Criminal and myself, this will be the LAST MONTH where usage stats are generated using only pokemon that appear in battle, as opposed to full teams. Also, this month I'm introducing some pokemetrics to the reported stats, namely the average number of KOs will get per battle (the idea being that a higher KO rate indicates a better sweeper) and average number of turns active per battle (the idea being that the higher this measure, the better the pokemon is at "stall"). I'm also working on something that's a bit more ambitious, but I'm going to wait to debut that until I figure out how to present it. Innocent Criminal also has data for the last third of October regarding moveset usage, but he may or may not post it, since it's only for the partial month. As always, enjoy! Like last month, I've only listed the six "Standard" tiers, plus Clear Skies and DW, but I'm more than happy to upload others by request. PM ME. I don't always see posts in the thread. One last thing: for those of you new to how Smogon does things, tiers only get updated every three months, so it's too early to talk about anyone "moving up to OU" or anything like that. The value after the ± is the standard deviation. Sweepers and stallers are ranked by metric-stddev. Note that, by and large, the metrics are crap--there's just too much variation. I expect this stuff to be better for my so-called "1337" stats. Note that only pokemon whose usage exceeded 100 got ranked (to try to prevent those pesky 0 stddevs) Sweepers

nothing surprising this time around, dragonite being #1 was expected and it seems the metagame has stabilised around rain stall and everything that beats it |

I find it relatively interesting how Gliscor is still high in the usage stats, considering the fact that it's setup bait for a heck of a lot of things on a standard rain team. I mean, perhaps it's used to lure in and Toxic things like Rotom-W and Politoed, or sweep with the SubAcroFling set, but otherwise it isn't really doing much. All it can really wall is Scizor and Jirachi (although SubCM, which is becoming more and more popular, beats Gliscor too...). SubDD Dragonite beats it, Haxorus beats it, Landorus can do a ton with HP Ice, and even Terrakion can lure it in and do a ton with CB Stone Edge.
Basically, I'm pretty unsure about Gliscor's position; perhaps people are still waiting for it to go down due to Excadrill's only recent banning. That seems the only logical reason to me... STOP USING GLISCOR! |

Good to see Throh and Sawk doing well in NU though - BRING ON THE AIKIDO POKEMON. Claydol is top in RU?!!! It's common, but not THAT common. I use it, but then again I am considering switching to Uxie. |
I am happy that Klinklang has found its place in nu as #5 in usage, but its RU usage is a bit saddening, its actually a very good counter to subroost Krow, and there arent as many steels in the tier.

Top 5 OU Usage are all staples of Rain teams, and the top lead overall being Politoed. Then again, 6-14 are all pretty regular in the Sand, apart from Jirachi perhaps?
Seems that distributing auto-weather has certainly had a massive effect on the metagame from last gen (something we've known for a while though). I'd be curious to know what stats for teh PO server would be (assuming those above are Smogon), since they still have SB Blaziken, Drizzle SwSw and Excadrill/Thundurus. I guess you could say that we could use older figures to check those, but I'm wondering if not banning Blaze has led to any significant changed in that meta. Sun boosted attacks would be ripping through most things, so you'd assume that Sun would be playing a much bigger role. |

Anyways I am surprised Deoxys S isnt higher. There are periods when I see that thing 4-5 battles in a row. Its easily the best support pokemon for offensive teams right now. Down in UU I am surprised that still no one is using Yanmega. Things a monster down there and Bug Buzz just destroys everything. It has little to no trouble punching holes in some of the most used pokemon in the tier with Bug Buzz alone and with Air Slash for coverage its beastly. Where is the love? |
Just like to point out the rise in Starmie (rapid spin), Espeon (magic bounce), Tentacruel (rapid spin), ect. No wonder nite is #1

Terrakion probably should have been higher from the get-go; the thing's a monster.
Tornadus has seen an absolutely huge rise, probably from Thundurus's banning. |
