So a battle between roses, well that Bandit might be annoying so let's do something to eliminate her as soon as possible, let's bring back the sun to make sure all the team are signifiantly easier to deal with, that and screens are the few thing that we'll be needing in here

Cicuta: Sunny Day - Solarbeam (Shoals)
*If Katherine or Christine are Sleep A1 then use Aromatherapy A1 and push actions
Christine:
Flamethrower (Bandit) - Ice Beam (Bandit)
Katherine: Light Screen - Will-O-Wisp (Mecha)

Mr.L Feb 8th, 2012 7:18:27 AM

A fragrant aroma filled the air as the two roses stood each other down. Bandit wasn't in the mood to steal her her heart today, however. Mecha shook on spot at the prospect of facing a dragon, but Shoals eased its worry with a comforting pat. This is going to be a good match.

Bandit: Water Sport -> Unown R (Rain Dance)
Shoals: Substitute (15) -> Razor Shell (Katherine)
Mecha: Zen Headbutt (Cicuta) -> Unown M (Magic Coat)

The Wanderer Feb 8th, 2012 9:58:44 PM

Fair enough.

Pre-Round

Round 1: The War of the Roses

Gooooooood evening, ladies and gentlemen! Today's battle in a big bowl of Unown Soup pits Mr. L's band of warriors - Bandit the Roselia, Shoals the Oshawott (you may remember these two from a previous battle I reffed), and Mecha the Beldum, against Gerard's all-girl trio - Katherine the Kirlia, another Roselia named Cicuta, and a shiny Dragonair named Christine!

The round starts off with our two roses leading the battle - House Lancaster Bandit kicking off by Sporting Water...well, broth, anyway, all over the place, while House York Cicuta conjuring a Sunny Day. Her partner Chris immediately takes advantage of that, letting loose a nasty little Flamethrower that would've been a devastating blow if it weren't for water sport, but still does decent damage. It looks like Bandit's the only pokemon in Mr. L's team with a speed advantage, as Gerard gets another move with Katherine radiating Screens of Light upon her team. Mr. L gets the rest of the action to himself, with Shoals breaking off a piece of the bowl to make a Substitute, and Mecha attempts a Zen Headbutt against York's avatar Cicuta...but misses!

Mecha leads the next action by grabbing an M-shaped Unown and generating a Magic Coat. Apparently, Cicuta was going to throw some nasty sunlight at Mr. L's team, but Lancaster Bandit ruins her day by negating the clear skies with an Unown-spawned Rain Dance, forcing her to charge her lazer! Chris takes revenge on this humilation by smacking Bandit with a beam of her own - an Ice Beam! And boy, did it do far more damage than flamethrower! Katherine causes a little bit of trouble herself, guiding a Will-o-wisp to sear Mecha...but ends up getting burned instead, thanks to Magic Coat!

...Of course, her synchronize ability just burns the Beldum anyway.

Shoals makes his move in the aftermath, taking the...rather phallic Shell on his groin and slicing up Katherine with its Razor-sharp edges, while Cicuta finally unleashes her Solarbeam on the unsuspecting Oshawott! The rain may have cut its power, but the damage was still enough to wreck that substitute!

Looks like Gerard has the advantage in terms of HP. So what'll happen next? Stay tuned!

End round 1

Mr.L Feb 9th, 2012 7:01:31 AM

Just curious if you calc'd the rain into Oshawott's Razor Shell Attack, or took rain's Half-damage effect into Solarbeam.

Either way, my actions don't change:

Bandit: Unown D (Dark Void) -> Giga Drain (Katherine)
Shoals: Razor Shell (Katherine) -> Night Slash (Katherine)
Mecha: Unown C (Crabhammer) (Katherine) -> Zen Headbutt (Cicuta)

IF Protect is used by any of their pokemon on A1, then have Mecha replace his action with Unown F (Feint).

The Wanderer Feb 9th, 2012 8:47:21 AM

whoops, I forgot about rain and razor shell. Solarbeam's BAP WAS halved, though.

Gerard Feb 9th, 2012 4:04:00 PM

Well, the Unkowns work both ways, and I know wich ones I want, nothing sleepy in here for now tough

Cicuta: Unown F [Fake Out] (Bandit) - Magical Leaf (Shoals)
Christine: Thunder Wave (Bandit) - Unown T [Thunder] (Shoals)
Katherine: Psyquic (Bandit) - Evasive Teleport

Round 2: Hell hath no fury like a Kirlia who just got cheated on

Welcome back, ladies and gents! This round turned out to be a hectic one - Cicuta doesn't seem to like the idea of Bandit pulling an Unown-induced Dark Void, so she grabs an Unown of her own to Fake him Out! With the white Roselia unable to act, Christine zaps him with a Thunder Wave, making things even worse for Mr. L's team - even moreso as Katherine throws him around with a Psychic attack! With Gerard's turn over, Shoals and Mecha invoke the power of the rain to terrorize Katherine, in the form of a Razor Shell and Unown-spawned Crabhammer, respectively.

The little Kirlia has had quite enough of this shit, and Teleports away for the remainder of the round. With Bandit grievously slow from paralysis, this leaves Gerard with the complete initiative, starting with Cicuta slinging a few Magical Leaves at Shoals. But the assault on the ivory Oshawott doesn't end there - Chris seizes a T-Unown with her tail and conjures a grand bolt of Thunder - a surefire hit, thanks to the rain, but not enough to paralyze him! While Mecha scores a decent blow on Cicuta via Zen Headbutt, Shoals and Bandit don't have a Kirlia to attack at the moment!

So yeah, Mr. L's in a bad position at the moment. Can he turn this around? Stay tuned!

End Round 2

Gerard, you're up!

Gerard Feb 9th, 2012 11:24:36 PM

With every single attak at it's disposal it's a bit hard, so let's keep it on the offensive to minimize the kind of things that they can do to us, Bandit could be very annoying with all her tricks, but now that we manage to slow her down it's gonna be a lot more manageable, with the rain up Shoals is our main concern, so let's end this quick and painless

Cicuta: Giga Drain (Shoals) - Extrasensory (Bandit)
*If Shoals uses Unown P [Protect] or Unown A [Evasive Agility] then Switch A1 and A2
Christine: Thunderbolt (Shoals) - Ice Beam (Bandit)
*If Shoals uses Unown P [Protect] or Unown A [Evasive Agility] then Switch A1 and A2

Katherine: Taunt (Bandit) - Reflect

Mr.L Feb 10th, 2012 7:21:44 AM

Gah, that kinda blows my entire plan out of the water...means I gotta play dirty to manipulate your actions by bypassing your sub...

Sorry about this...

Bandit: Shadow Ball (Katherine) -> Unown B (Brick Break) (Katherine)

Shoals: Unown D (Detect) -> Brine (Katherine)

Mecha: Unown H (Heal Bell) -> Iron Head (Katherine)
IF Katherine's fainted by the time you move in A2, use Zen Headbutt on Cicuta

The Wanderer Feb 10th, 2012 11:29:36 AM

Round 3: Death of a Kirlia

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen! This round turned out to be a real bloodbath - Shoals, sensing impending doom, grabbed a D Unown and Detected any incoming attacks - a wise move, it turns out, as Cicuta andChristine both directed their assault at him in the form of a Giga Drain and a Thunderbolt, respectively! Meanwhile, Katherine spouts some very unladylike language at Bandit, and although he tries to endure, the Roselia ends up falling for her Taunts! This doesn't last for long, though, as Mecha grabs an H Unown and invokes Heal Bell, absolving Mr. L of all his team's status problems! With Bandit's paralysis gone, he smacks Katherine with a Shadow Ball, which although buffered by Light Screen, still does a decent amount of damage.

Lancaster Bandit, having gained his second wind, smashes Gerard's light screen with an Unown-induced Brick Break, which, of course, doesn't do much damage to the psychic-type. He'd pay dearly for this - Cicuta and the shiny Dragonair focus their attacks on him this time, the former wrecking him with Extrasensory and the latter actually freezing him with an Ice Beam! As Katherine begins setting up a Reflect, Mr. L's ivory otter begins Brining that tenacious Kirlia, doing much more damage thanks to all those wounds! Mecha also contributes to this attack by smashing her with an Iron Head...wait, could it be? Yes! That was just barely enough to take her down!

It's 1 and 0 Mr. L, but he's far from out of the woods just yet. Find out what happens next after these messages!

End Round 3

Your turn, L!

Mr.L Feb 10th, 2012 4:55:24 PM

Bandit: Unown S (Scald) (Cicuta) -> Synthesis
Shoals: Ice Beam+Ice Beam Combo (Cicuta) -> Ice Beam (Cicuta)
If Christine uses a damaging electric move against Shoals on A1, replace A1 with Unown P (Protect)
Mecha: Zen Headbutt (Cicuta) -> Unown I (Ice Punch) (Cicuta)

Just a note, but Scald thaws the user, and was told that my Ice Beam combo works even though i faint from exhaustion.

The Wanderer Feb 10th, 2012 11:44:50 PM

That...is my policy on combos, yes.

Gerard Feb 11th, 2012 12:32:46 AM

Not the biggest misstep, but not a god one either, still, We can do just as good by destroying Bandit's chance to throw out by using that little unown first, so let's do that in the best way we can, after that a little sun might be nice, even is Shoals is a bit to tired to enjoy it, ant this way we can deal with Bandit next round Extremely Fast

Cicuta: Unown A [Evasive Agility] - Sunny Day
Christine: Unown S [Shadow Sneak] (Mecha) - Flamethrower (Mecha)

PS: Not that it will matter, but Bandit's still taunted

The Wanderer Feb 11th, 2012 10:07:26 AM

Huh. I was under the impression that Heal Bell cured taunt.
Pre-round

Round 4: Being a cop-out is bad

Alas, I gotta head to work very soon, so there's no flavor for this round. I can tell you, however, that nobody died (not even Shoals after that Ice Beam combo - turns out he's only one energy away from fainting!)

Calculations (These follow the new calculation methods dictated, so rounding occurs in the final numbers)

End Round 4

Gerard Feb 11th, 2012 11:36:38 AM

So now it's time for our little friends to go, not gonna be so hard as they're already on the edge and with that amount of energy we shouldn't have to worry about any combo by now, still we better not take any chances and finish this as fast as possible, it's nice to know we won't have to worry about endure or protect shenanigans with Bandit, so. Can finish her as fast as possible

Cicuta: Solarbeam (Shoals) - Magical Leaf (Shoals)
*If Shoals uses Unown P [Protect] A1 then chill and push actions
*If Shoals is gone A2 then use Syntesis A2
Christine: Extremespeed (Mecha) - Flamethrower (Mecha)
*If Bandit uses Unown P [Protect] A1 then Chill and push actions

Mr.L Feb 11th, 2012 11:43:19 AM

Bandit: Unown E (Endeavor) (Cicuta) -> Extrasensory (Cicuta)
IF Cicuta faints A1, replace A2 with Sludge Bomb (Christine)
Shoals: Ice Beam (Cicuta) -> Ice Beam (Cicuta)
Mecha: Unown V (V-Create) (Cicuta) -> Zen Headbutt (Cicuta)

IF Cicuta is fainted by A2, replace A2 with Iron Head and Target Christine

Round 5: Pride Before A Fall

Welcome back, ladies and germs! It seems that Gerard didn't bother targeting Bandit at all this round - Although Christine could have taken out the Roselia in a single blow, she aims her Extremespeed attack at Mecha, instead, not doing much damage! This gives Bandit an opportunity to smack Cicuta around with all the strength of his (Unown-spawned) Endeavors. But what about Cicuta herself? Would she put up with Bandit's shit? Apparently so, as she directs her Solarbeam at Shoals, instead! The ivory otter survives, however, and sacrifices himself by blasting Gerard's own rose with an Ice Beam, grievously weakining her. And Mecha? Well, he grabs a V Unown and slams into Cicuta with a mighty V-create, and despite reflect severely buffering the damage, it turns her into a charred husk anyway!

It's down to just the shiny Dragonair, and Bandit proceeds to wail on her with a Sludge Bomb, poisoning her! This ends up biting Mecha in the...uh...claws later, but for now, Christine fires a nasty little Flamethrower, which sends the Beldum reeling! Mecha then counters with an Iron Head, but the damage is severely reduced, thanks to Bandit accidentally activating Christine's marvel scale. To make matters worse, Shed Skin kicks in and she loses the poison right after.

Gerard's underestimation of Bandit has stripped him down to his last pokemon, but Mr. L's situation is pretty grim as well. This could turn out either way, folks - stay tuned!

End Round 5

L, you're up!

Mr.L Feb 12th, 2012 1:03:26 AM

Bandit: Unown P (Pain Split) (Christine) -> Sludge Bomb (Christine)
IF Mecha's substitution activates, replace A2 with Leech Seed (Christine)
Mecha: Unown L (Leech Seed) (Christine) -> Iron Head (Christine)
IF Christine uses Extremespeed against Bandit, replace A1 with Unown Q (Quick Guard)

Did the math, and Pain Split takes 30.3333... Energy to pull off, leaving me with one and allowing me to pull off one final attack.

Gerard Feb 12th, 2012 1:09:36 PM

We've been doing it for a while here, so let's scape and move on to destroy our friends, that little mistake will not cost us the game, also, let's use that little sub against them

Christine: Evasive Agility (Mecha) - Extremespeed (Bandit)

Round 6: Down to the Line

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen! As you'll recall, Cicuta had gone down in the last round, leaving Gerard's Dragonair against Mr. L's two remaining pokemon. In spite of that, Chris has managed to hold her own, opening the round with an Evasive Agility, dodging Mecha's Unown-spawned Leech Seeds, although it wasn't enough to dodge Bandit's last-ditch effort at doing damage through a U Unown in the form of Pain Split!

Christine tries to smack Bandit with an Extremespeed, but Mecha hastily grabs an Unown and blocks it with a Quick Guard, as the white Roselia that is Bandit performs his final attack, splattering his Dragonair nemesis with a Sludge Bomb before fainting.
HERESY! *BLAM*

Mecha used Quick Guard first action and Iron Head on the second. Bandit used Leech Seed in the second action instead of sludge bomb.

I can say with a fair amount of confidence that this battle will end with the next round. Can Mr. L hold on long enough to withstand the wrath of Gerard?! Find out next time, in the seventh - and probably final - round!

calculations

End Round 6

Gerard, you're up!

Gerard Feb 13th, 2012 1:29:45 AM

Sorry, but the sub clearly said A1, nothing on A2 (when the Extremespeed was used) so Mecha should have used Iron Head instead and Bandit should have been eliminated before using Sludge Bomb :3

Mr.L Feb 13th, 2012 7:20:47 AM

I'm afraid the above post is true, though my Roselia would not be KO'd before launching the attack (Pain split pulled through, healing me 25HP; I fainted through energy exhaustion). The only thing that should be rereffed is the fact my Beldum made a blonde move of using Quick Guard early, and A2 should go as follows:

Bandit: Leech Seed (Christine)
Mecha: Iron Head (Christine)

Hope this clears something up for the both of you (Was keeping my mouth shut because it was better for you).

The Wanderer Feb 13th, 2012 8:23:58 AM

EDIT: SHIT! I Just realized I never actually posted the calculations, either! On second thought, this'll have to wait until after work; I don't have time to retcon the entire round right now.

The Wanderer Feb 13th, 2012 7:59:51 PM

Okay, the round's been retconned, everything should be in order now. Gerard, you're up!
