Wi-Fi Competition Usage Statistics
http://en.pokemon-gl.com/report/#/wifi-competitions
They posted the "Top 10 Party Pokémon Chosen by Strong Players". I've listed the top 10s below: [Korean Tournament Name] 1 - Tyranitar 2 - Hitmontop 3 - Metagross 4 - Latias 5 - Garchomp 6 - Rotom 7 - Cresselia 8 - Ferrothorn 9 - Chandelure 10 - Thundurus 2012 Spring Friendly 1 - Hitmontop 2 - Metagross 3 - Garchomp 4 - Tyranitar 5 - Zapdos 6 - Scizor 7 - Politoed 8 - Rotom 9 - Cresselia 10 - Chandelure Japan Cup 2012 Spring 1 - Metagross 2 - Tyranitar 3 - Hitmontop 4 - Cresselia 5 - Rotom 6 - Salamence 7 - Chandelure 8 - Gastrodon 9 - Politoed 10 - Thundurus 2012 International Challenge 1 - Metagross 2 - Tyranitar 3 - Hitmontop 4 - Rotom 5 - Chandelure 6 - Cresselia 7 - Politoed 8 - Salamence 9 - Gastrodon 10 - Abomasnow Famitsu Cup (Single Battles) 1 - Latios 2 - Garchomp 3 - Rotom 4 - Scizor 5 - Tyranitar 6 - Dragonite 7 - Abomasnow 8 - Conkeldurr 9 - Volcarona 10 - Metagross 2011 Autumn Friendly 1 - Hydreigon 2 - Terrakion 3 - Thundurus 4 - Jellicent 5 - Amoonguss 6 - Conkeldurr 7 - Chandelure 8 - Whimsicott 9 - Mienshao 10 - Scrafty Japan Cup 1 - Hydreigon 2 - Thundurus 3 - Terrakion 4 - Amoonguss 5 - Conkeldurr 6 - Jellicent 7 - Tornadus 8 - Scrafty 9 - Reuniclus 10 - Chandelure |
Wow, this is pretty awesome! I think it's cool to see how all the stats are similar but different, too.
Like Latias and Ferrothorn making the Top 10 in Korea is pretty interesting. Ferrothorn was probably a big time rain counter, and I'm guessing Latias was used because it's bulkier. Spring Friendly seems pretty much on par with Skarmbliss usage stats. The Japan Cup is pretty interesting because most of it is similar but Salamence isn't too commonly seen in the US. It'll be interesting to see how they're using it. Gastrodon being higher is also interesting, although lots more people are starting to use Gastro here. The Singles Cup looks pretty interesting, although I'm surprised Abomasnow got in over Politoed or Ninetales. And aside from that and Conkeldurr and Metagross being in the top 10, it looks fairly similar to our OU before Garchomp got banned. As for the Autumn Friendly and the Japan Cup, the stats are nearly identical. Japan has Tornadus and Reuniclus in the top 10, and we have Mienshao and Whimsicott. Overall seems indicative of the 2011 metagame. Really cool stats, thanks for posting! |
I think these stats are really cool too, interesting how Zapdos is only seen in the top 10 in the Spring Friendly.
|
^Maybe because it's not found ingame and can't be bred in B/W?
I think the only thing really surprising is that Salamence made a US Top Ten, probably because of the stated reason. Nice to know that at least Koreans appreciate Ferrothorn. EDIT: Why can't we have this sort of thing for regular random WiFi? D: |
It also shows on the website moveset % and the top 6 partners that that pokemon was used with.
|
Also if you click on the images of the Pokemon it gives you info on Held Items, Moves, Abilities and Natures, as well as common partners.
edit: ninja'd edit 2: also for random wifi http://en.pokemon-gl.com/report/#/gbu/trend/6 |
Not surprised that Salamence made top 10 in International friendly, it's overused in Japan.
|
Nothing really surprising in Doubles stuff, I guess Hydreigon at the top of Autumn Friendly is a bit unexpected. imo not the best VGC 2011 Mon, but he is certainly a favorite of people who don't play to competitively
|
I am of the opinion that Salamence is an underrated Pokemon in general, glad to see him.
Latias is also somewhat surprising, another underrated mon but it definitely seems to fit the Japanese prefrerence for bulkier mons. Really the biggest surprise for me is the total lack of Latios in the spring friendly stats. Substitute Latios basically evades all of its normal counters, and its spammed a lot on Skarmbliss. |

Considering that its most used move was Heat Wave when it did appear in the top 10 that doesn't really seem to have been too much of a deterrent
|
Based on the percentages for all the moves, items, etc. shown, you can sort of guess how many times each Pokemon is used. There are actually multiple possible usage number that can fit but I think going with the minimum possible gives the best picture.
We don't know the total number of teams in the stats so each usage number can only be compared to the usage numbers from the same tournament. [Korean Tournament Name] 1 - Tyranitar (6 Uses) 2 - Hitmontop (4 Uses) 3 - Metagross (4 Uses) 4 - Latias (3 Uses) 5 - Garchomp (3 Uses) 6 - Rotom (3 Uses) 7 - Cresselia (3 Uses) 8 - Ferrothorn (3 Uses) 9 - Chandelure (3 Uses) 10 - Thundurus (3 Uses) 2012 Spring Friendly 1 - Hitmontop (81 Uses) 2 - Metagross (75 Uses) 3 - Garchomp (72 Uses) 4 - Tyranitar (69 Uses) 5 - Zapdos (67 Uses) 6 - Scizor (63 Uses) 7 - Politoed (57 Uses) 8 - Rotom (57 Uses) 9 - Cresselia (57 Uses) 10 - Chandelure (57 Uses) Japan Cup 2012 Spring 1 - Metagross (529 Uses) 2 - Tyranitar (426 Uses) 3 - Hitmontop (361 Uses) 4 - Cresselia (342 Uses) 5 - Rotom (310 Uses) 6 - Salamence (276 Uses) 7 - Chandelure (264 Uses) 8 - Gastrodon (234 Uses) 9 - Politoed (198 Uses) 10 - Thundurus (177 Uses) 2012 International Challenge 1 - Metagross (392 Uses) 2 - Tyranitar (289 Uses) 3 - Hitmontop (280 Uses) 4 - Rotom (279 Uses) 5 - Chandelure (234 Uses) 6 - Cresselia (230 Uses) 7 - Politoed (183 Uses) 8 - Salamence (171 Uses) 9 - Gastrodon (167 Uses) 10 - Abomasnow (160 Uses) |
Man Metagross is dominant. I can't believe he was used over 100 more times than the 2nd top mon in the Spring Cup and International Challenge.
|
how cool that people from TPCi decided to show this statistics, it's very interesting
sand was always the most popular weather, which surprises me after all the rain teams i got across |
Just because Tyranitar is used more than Politoed, it doesn't necessarily mean sand is "more popular". A lot of people bring Tyranitar along just to disrupt teams based around weather.
|
This is pretty cool. I hope that the statistics can be get even better later on. Cool seeing how much Metagross is being used.

I thought I'd chime in with some user-collected statistics.
These are mostly WiFi Singles Random Matches, Free (not Rating.) Do note that these are user-collected statistics so they may be off, and not very accurate. However, they're still useful for presenting the viewer with an idea of the WiFi random matchup metagame. These are the usage statistics for April Quote:
Garchomp #1 most used. Who knew. Thundurus, and especially Blaziken and Excadrill, pokemon that are considered by the smogon standard to be severely OP, are rarely ever used, Thundurus being in about 4% of teams, and Blaziken/Excadrill only in 2% of all teams. I wonder why the huge discrepancy. Chandelure is considered UU on Smogon tiers. However its in 11% of teams, making it quite a big threat. Why here as well. Heatran comes in at 2%, even less used than Flareon. |
