VGC tutoring now available!

VGC tutoring is now available here in Battling 101! Battling 202, a program dedicated to teaching others the intricacies of VGC, has now merged with Battling 101 in order to bring you all the opportunity to be officially tutored in various VGC metagames! Since the VGC metagame is significantly different than singles, the way the VGC tutoring process will work is different than the way the singles tutoring process operates. Read below for more information.

Rounds

Singles Battling 101 rounds typically run for 4 weeks. VGC Battling 101 rounds, however, will run for 2 weeks in order to better suit the timeline of VGC events. For example, there is an upcoming regional on October 14th. If VGC tutoring rounds lasted for four weeks, we would not be able to help as many people as we would like to before said regional arrived as opposed to if we were to do 2 week rounds.

Since VGC tutoring rounds will be shorter than what we're used to seeing in Battling 101, they will have their own separate sign-up threads. Solace, the leader of VGC tutoring in Battling 101, will be in charge of posting the rounds and doing tutor assignments. Any rules regarding the sign-up thread will be listed in the sign-up OP.

Solace will be posting the first VGC tutoring round this Friday, August 24th. The schedule for future rounds can be viewed here, so be sure to remember those dates if you're interested in signing up. If you're new to VGC, this will aid you in your quest to win a VGC event in the future! All you have to do is fill out the following tutee application form and post it in the sign-up thread when the time comes:

Quote:

Username:
Age:
Division: (Seniors or Masters)
Pokemon Online Username:
Your timezone and usual hours of availability:
Tell us a little about yourself:
However, if you're already experienced with VGC, these rounds won't help you much, so there isn't much point in applying to be tutored. If you have ample experience with the VGC metagame, though, you may be interested in the below section.

Tutors

A tutoring program can't run without tutors, of course! At first, we'll only have six tutors available to teach the VGC metagame to you guys since we just introduced VGC tutoring to you all, which means we won't be able to give tutors to as many tutees as we would like to. The current tutors for VGC are Solace, Human, TheMantyke, R Inanimate, Eraddd, kingofkongs, and Cybertron. Their profiles can be found here soon.

If you're reading this and have considerable knowledge and experience with VGC, we encourage you to sign-up as a tutor. Like every other tutor that teaches for Battling 101, a pretty http://www.smogon.com/media/community/awards/tutor.png will be given to the tutors who excel in teaching their tutees as judged by our evaluation system. PM Battling 101 or Solace with your tutor application. Once it's received, the application will be reviewed and you will be notified of the status of the application as soon as possible.

Tournaments

Tutee tournaments for VGC will run when we garner enough interest. Since we only have six tutors at the moment, the amount of tutees we will have will be low, making it hard to run a tutee tournament. Over time when interest increases, tutee tournaments will occur.

That's it! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask a Battling 101 staff member. We're more than happy to answer any questions that may arise.

Bloo just posted this thread, so he obviously hasn't quit.

I think I might need this to get me back in the mind set of VGC. I only just stumbled across this, it's awesome that Smogon tutors users in battling. Roll on Friday

Nice! I need the tutoring, but I'm too busy to participate in this :/

Given I had never succeeded in advancing far in any regionals, I'd be interested in some VGC tutoring.

Die2Distroy Aug 22nd, 2012 2:19:45 PM

I'm competing in the European Nationals next year, would it be wise for me to get tutored when the European Rules, Dates and Locations are released, or get tutored ASAP? Thanks

xJaiYT Aug 22nd, 2012 3:28:09 PM

^_^ can't wait till Friday!

hoult66 Aug 22nd, 2012 5:18:08 PM

I couldn't find the information anywhere so here are my questions.

Is it one on one or in classes?
Will the hours be set or is it dependent on the tutor and tutee?
Any help will be appreciated.

It would probably be better to wait and see what the rules will be.

I'm glad that a veteran other than myself is thinking of getting tutored, too. ;)

JFK Aug 23rd, 2012 5:52:39 PM

When are signups? I need scizors!

Zapheon Aug 23rd, 2012 7:25:42 PM

I'll be trying for the second sign ups.

Bloo Aug 24th, 2012 12:36:38 PM

I am closing this because sign-ups for the first VGC round are around 25 minutes away and I can easily see people confusing this thread as the sign-up thread. If you have any questions regarding anything, please feel free to contact a Battling 101 staff member about it via PM! I am glad to see interest in VGC tutoring and wish the best of luck to everyone intending to sign-up!
