Smogon Tournament #9 - Round 1

Welcome to this year's Official Smogon Tournament, the ninth installment of one of Smogon's most prestigious tournaments. The OST is one of Smogon's longest standing traditions in tournaments and has crowned many great Pokemon players as its champions across three generations. Over the next few months, hundreds of players will compete to the best of their ability as they attempt to join the exclusive ranks of the OST trophy holders. Only one of those players will succeed in their journey and earn the recognition that comes with their victory, along with the iconic OST trophy. This year, however, there will be more on the line than just a prestigious trophy. In addition to the trophy and the bragging rights that come with it, the winner of the tournament will receive a brand new Nintendo 3DS, and second place will receive a copy of Black 2 or White 2! Standard Rules and Clauses
New Rules Activity Decisions / Coin Flips: We are changing the rules for activity / coin flip decisions for this tournament. In the event that there is an uncompleted match at the deadline, it will be coin flipped unless one or both of the players involved in the match specifically request an activity win and explain sufficiently why they deserve to win over their opponent. Attempting to schedule a battle is required in order to receive the win by activity. To make it clear that you are requesting an activity win when you post, you must open your post with "Activity Win Request" in bold.
Example
If you believe your opponent is making an unfair request and that they don't deserve the activity win over you, you can either make your own request or quote their post and explain why they don't deserve it. You should try to make your activity win request posts at least 24 hours before the deadline to give your opponent a reasonable opportunity to contest it with their own activity win request. *NEW* : Timer Clause will be strictly enforced for this tournament. This means that the normal disconnection rules found in the Tournament Rules, Guidelines, and Information thread do not apply. If a player disconnects and does not reconnect to their battle before the timer expires, they lose that particular game. This doesn't necessarily mean they lose the entire best-of-three set. Substitutions Players may sign up as a substitute if they either didn't join in time or their posts in the signups thread were deleted. If you are eliminated from the tournament (i.e. you lose your games, are substituted out, or drop out), you may not sign up as a substitute. I will endeavor to substitute players in whenever a player drops out, and one week before the Round 1 deadline, I will look through all players and activity win requests and replace any inactive players with substitutes. There is a very high chance that you will get to play if you sign up as a substitute. Substitutes will only be allowed into the tournament during Round 1. Substitutes will be implemented on a mostly first come, first serve basis, but if you are inactive after you sign up as a substitute then I will not substitute you into the tournament. Known Bugs For informational purposes, those who play their games on Showdown should be aware of the known bugs listed here. Genesect has been banned from OU and therefore is not allowed in this tournament. In this series, we see one of East's stand-out performers go head-to-head with one of West's most loyal combatants with dragonuser looking to exact revenge after West's World Cup victory. Will TFC's Blastoise be enough to slay dragonuser's dragon-types, or will we see dragonuser own TheFourthChaser and then go on to meet the first one, the second one, and the third one in later rounds? ~ Heist undisputed vs Ciele Fresh from winning the first turquoise trophy in Smogon's history, Ciele is set to face undisputed, a holder of a trophy that is also a shade of blue! Fresh off of sucking off Lavos Spawn, undisputed probably thinks he has a walk in the park as he's facing the guy that won "Smogon's equivalent of the Special Olympics." Will undisputed demonstrate to the world that Americans will always beat the British or will Ciele's cuteness and power of Shaymin lead him to victory? ~ Steven Snype Noodlez vs Gouki Noodlez v. Gouki is an interesting match; while Noodlez has never won any major tournament, he has always been touted as a very competent OU'er, and has been able to knock out some heavy names in OU in past tournaments like SPL / WCOP. Gouki is a man who needs no introduction, having beaten the Smogon Frontier and been an integral player in SPL while playing for the Scooters. While the Smogon veteran may look to have an edge in this matchup, his unfamiliarity with the new generation may prove to be his downfall. Look for a potential upset with Noodlez. ~ LonelyNess Myzozoa vs Nelson-X Another of USA West's integral players, Myzozoa, will now have to overcome Nelson-X, a player who barely fell short of winning a trophy in the recently concluded Smogon Grand Slam. Nelson-X defeated some of the best current players in order to make it that far against virtually all predictions. Now that the predictions may favor him, will he manage to come out on top? ~ Earthworm symphonyx64 vs Pocket At a glance if you looked at this battle you might be unimpressed, however both of the users involved have some rather surprising facts about them. Symphonyx64 is actually undefeated in the Smogon Premier League for OU, despite never holding a consistent starting spot. Pocket is more regularly known for his prowess in the niche metagames, like UU, but he is not without some competency in BW OU. Over the past two seasons, when he elects to play in the Smogon Tour, he is 11-3 in OU tournaments. Both of these players have a chance to break out in this tournament, so don't be surprised if this is a good matchup. ~ LonelyNess Maaf vs Vinc2612 A battle between a franch fucker and a fake belgian is obviously an highlight match. On the first side you have Maaf, especially known to be the worst host of smogon tour history and french time's admin. Does he even play pokemon ? No one knows... but I heard he was good at Challenge Cup. On the other side, Vinc2612, a belgian-canadian-french-italian-spanish player who is a current top 8 of the smogon tour XIV. While Maaf perfectly knows Vinc's playstyle, Vinc doesn't have anything about maaf except this log http://pastebin.com/mm5CDyPj ... Yes, this is gonna be funny to watch. So will Vinc2612 be able to stop Maaf clicking on Explosion/Selfdestruct every turn, or will Maaf show everyone his amazing skill in this amazing tier known as BW2 OU? ~ Ojama Genesect has been banned from OU and therefore is not allowed in this tournament. Deadline The deadline for Round 1 will be 11:59PM EST on the 16th of December, 2012.
