CAP 4 Usage Statistics
 

These would have included in my main stats thread, only the scripts that generate the usage stats had no fucking idea what an Aurumoth was, so they'd crash when they got to the CAP 4 playtest folders. Consequently, before I could get these to you guys, I had to first fix the script.

Also note: These stats are not just for November but for the entire Aurumoth playtest period.

Obviously Aurumoth got ridiculous usage (most CAPs do in their playtest), but I think in this case, CAP4 was used more in the playtest than recent past CAPs. I dunno if we ever pulled stats for Mollux, but it certainly saw a lot less usage. It goes to show how powerful and useful of a Pokemon Aurumoth was on any given team.

Not surprised at all by how the top Pokemon shaked out in this. Heatran served as an excellent counter against Auru's STABs, which I'm sure is what was solely responsible for the massive usage of Dugtrio. Genesect of course was as popular as ever, and it's not surprising to see that Choice Scarf was it's most popular set (57%). Donphan usage was weirdly high; I felt that while I was laddering. People using Head Smash and Ice Shard and stuff. Y'all are whack.

I guess the biggest surprise, in my opinion, was the role of rain (at least in comparison to the BW2 OU metagame). I felt that it was lacking in presence on the ladder, but these stats show that it was used more in the playtest than in current OU (22.393% vs. 16.767%). I can't really make any correlations as to why that'd be; perhaps people boosted Hydro Pump to get through Heatran? I'm not sure; I played almost exclusively sun with a little bit of weatherless.

I'll pore over the stats more later -- but I just wanted to post a hearty thanks for collecting these for us!

First off, thanks a ton Antar. Stats are always greatly appreciated.

Now as for what I noticed in them, well, much of the skewed usage is to be expected, and as cool as it is, most of it is not very useful data in general. However, some stuff is quite interesting, and there is one piece of info that I personally find really surprising:

No Guard 45.837%
Illusion 42.829%
Weak Armor 11.333%

Now, Weak Armor being on the bottom is no surprise to me. It is a good ability and has many sets it could run, however, every single one of those sets can also be run well with Illusion, which is in general more useful. The surprising thing in all this though is that No Guard was most used. From my own experiences and what I have heard from other people No Guard is OK and has some sets that only it can run, but in general, Illusion is usually superior, so seeing No Guard have more usage is very surprising. Now, it is very possible that this is due to people still experimenting, and in a more stable meta Illusion would be more common, but even so, I am seriously shocked that Illusion was not the most popular.

Yeah, Heatran usage and the usage stats in general weren't that much surprising, however I'm impressed that No Guard is the most used ability. In my experience Illusion is quite more valuable, although I ran sets tailored for it so it may be due to limited experimentation. As it was quite obvious, Weak Armour is, well, weak, and doesn't get much usage, especially in a Genesect infested environment. Also it's impressive (although not unexpected) that the combined usage of all the Choice items on Aurumoth barely reach 15%. I'm a huge fan of Scarf Aurumoth and I really thought it could have a bigger impact; however seeing how everyone and their mother is running QD and to a lesser extent, DD Aurumoth, that's not surprising at all.
