Here we are again, at the Earth Mausoleum. Damn, this place gives me bad memories...here's hoping Frosty can make some better ones! Or will IAR roflstomp him, like he did me? Let's find out!

Restrictions: No Natural Grass, Only Sandstorm & Clear weather permitted, Poorly-lit Indoor arena

Description: The Earth Mausoleum is a dark, desolate place inside a cave situated in a remote desert about 6km from the nearest city. At the entrance, you must proceed down a tunnel that is fairly dark, but is loaded to the gills with harmless Ground Type Pokemon, predominately Hippopotas & Sandshrew, even the occasional Garchomp lurking about the place. After your short walk through a prescribed route, you walk into a large, fairly well lit indoors arena, that looked very dull, but one thing's obvious; This was a Ground Type Paradise...
This arena has virtually the same dimensions as the ASB Tournament arena, but with a few differences. Firstly, the arena has mini-grandstands at the side, & the trainers stand on a Podium elevated up by 3 metres. Lastly, the arena ceiling is rather low at only 20m high.
Now, what does this arena have that gives Ground Types an edge? Firstly, The main arena floor is a hybrid of sand & dirt, mixed together to make a strange material that can easily be dug into. Additionally, the ceiling is low & creates a completely indoor feel, where Moves that require sunlight, like Solarbeam, & all other weathers bar Clear & Sandstorm, fail. Additionally, Pokemon using Sky Drop/Fly/Bounce fail to gain enough altitude to evade, that is, they become a normal attack. Next, there is a fairly large mud patch near the centre of the arena at about 10 metres in diameter, & goes to about 10 metres deep. This mud patch has a little bit of water in it, but enough to be considered an external water source, but in using it, the attack becomes combined with mud & becomes a Ground Type Attack. Additionally, anyone using the patch to dive are still vulnerable to seismic moves & get hit for double power, & finally, the mud also makes Soak turn users into Ground-Types.
Being a Ground Type paradise, how will the average player fare? We shall see soon enough...

Mechanics:
Mud patches around the arena have enough water to be considered usable as an external Water Source.
However, all the mud means that such attacks become Ground Type moves.
Moves using these Mud Patches are also treated as Water-Type Moves for the purposes of Abilities such as Storm Drain.
Pokemon hiding in Mud Patches, while retaining the normal properties of Dive (Bar Typing), is also treated as the move: Dig, for the purposes of moves like Earthquake, Earth Power, etc.
The move: Soak, turns its targets into the Ground-Type instead.
Sky Drop, Fly, & Bounce all work like they normally do, but they do not gain enough altitude to successfully evade attacks.
Summary: Ground Type Paradise.

Okay guys, we should be able to get a good scouting here. Our opponent is strong and well prepared for Grass Pokemon, so this will be easily the hardest battle we've had thus far. "Utilitand starts it off by placing a temporary, protective barrier around his side of the field to ward off spread attacks, while Capers digs underground! IAR seems to be taking a very defensive posture this early in the match! In any case, Iababa the Necturna smacks the Fidgit hard with a vine, as Hector pounds his fat ass onto the ground to make an Earthquake! But IAR's side of the field is Protected from it, leaving Iababa to suffer...minisculely.

Round TWO

The Leader swaps out the trusty Gliscor and replaces it with a hulking lava monster, otherwise known as Tormeldon. Utilitand immediately performs some unspeakable gestures at Diababa involving its many hands, provoking it into some blind anger. Meanwhile, Tormeldon sends an explosion of lava towards Frosty's team, engulfing them in the equivalent of a molten chocolate cake except about a hundred times hotter. The challenger's team is far from helpless, though; Diababa hurls a massive ball of shadows at Utilitand, lowering its Special Defense, while Hector swamps the battlefield with water so muddy that it's actually Ground-type instead. Utilitand can't withstand the assault, and collapses on the floor, giving the challenger first blood!

While both Diababa and Hector are unable to act, recovering from their exertions, Tormeldon takes the opportunity to unleash MORE FIRE, damaging both enemies with a sudden cloud of heated air. Diababa then manages to retaliate by launching a flurry of sharp bladed leaves at it, but then the Camerupt sends another Eruption coming their way, dealing tremendous damage; seriously, nine numbers after the decimal point? We close with Hector moving his tubby self across the field and falling on top of Tormeldon, which happens to deal good damage and paralyze it at the same time; who wouldn't be unable to move after getting sat on by that thing?

Round THREE

Frosty wisely recalls both Hector and Diababa, sending out the other two members of his team - Veran the Whimsicott and Odolwa (Odawalla?) the Ludicolo. They're equipped with powerful items; let's see how they'll do against the Leader's duo!

Preparing for a powerful special attack coming her way, Veran sets up a wondrous wall of golden light that seems to filter out some of the attacks that hit it; it doesn't help much, however, as Capers swoops in and shatters the wall immediately, taking an icy blast from Odolwa in the process. Tormeldon uses his gem once again and launches a massive jet of flame at the defenseless Veran, dealing humungous damage.

Suddenly, Capers begins to glow extremely brightly, while Veran taunts him into a blind rage, although that seems hardly necessary at this point. Odolwa summons a powerful sleetstorm that blasts the Leader's team with withering cold wind, striking a weak point in Tormeldon which also causes it to be extremely pissed off. Capers then divebombs Veran from above, sending the poor Whimsicott slamming into the wall where it falls down, unconscious.

Before either Pokemon can react, Odolwa fires off another freezing beam of ice at Capers, knocking it out as well! Meanwhile, Tormeldon summons the last vestiges of its Fire Gem to empower another wave of cloudy, heated air, which happens to damage Odolwa a little.

With two Pokemon down already, things aren't looking so great for the Gym Leader, whose challenger has three Pokemon raring to go...

Round FOUR

With even the Gym Leader himself admitting to be backed in a corner, it certainly seems as if the fate of this match is sealed. The Leader sends out an intimidating Nidoking, armed with an equally intimidating Expert Belt; is this Pokemon enough to see him through, though...?

Tormeldon pumps adrenaline through all of his pissed off lava camel glands, pretty much rendering it unable to feel pain, while King Odin launches a stream of fire at Diababa, dealing much less damage than expected due to true love (maybe) and the candy thing that the Necturna wears around her neck and doesn't eat. Diababa fires off another powerful flurry of leaves at Tormeldon, however, just after Odolwa plants parasitic organisms over the Camerupt, sapping the remaining vestiges of its health and causing Tormeldon to collapse. Hoo boy.

Odolwa then sprays King Odin with a blast of boiling hot water, not only striking it in a weak point but also managing to leave a lasting burn! Enraged, the Nidoking switches elements and fires off a jet of thin ice at Diababa, who manages to mitigate the attack by draining his health. Things really aren't going the Leader's way this round.

Finally, both of Frosty's Pokemon prepare for a final assault, but King Odin is unfortunately completely unaware of this and continues firing elemental beams haphazardly. The Nidoking does, however, manage to burn Diababa. That's not enough, though; Diababa slices at the Nidoking viciously before succumbing to exhaustion, and Odolwa ends the match with a massive punch. It seems that this challenger has been successful.
