Smogon Tournament #9 - Round 2
Signups | Round 1
Welcome to this year's Official Smogon Tournament, the ninth installment of one of Smogon's most prestigious tournaments. The OST is one of Smogon's longest standing traditions in tournaments and has crowned many great Pokemon players as its champions across three generations. Over the next few months, hundreds of players will compete to the best of their ability as they attempt to join the exclusive ranks of the OST trophy holders. Only one of those players will succeed in their journey and earn the recognition that comes with their victory, along with the iconic OST trophy. This year, however, there will be more on the line than just a prestigious trophy. In addition to the trophy and the bragging rights that come with it, the winner of the tournament will receive a brand new Nintendo 3DS, and second place will receive a copy of Black 2 or White 2! The top four players will also receive an exclusive Smogon T-shirt. Tournament Rules, Guidelines, and General Information Specific Rules
Standard Rules and Clauses
New Rules Activity Decisions / Coin Flips: We are changing the rules for activity / coin flip decisions for this tournament. In the event that there is an uncompleted match at the deadline, it will be coin flipped unless one or both of the players involved in the match specifically request an activity win and explain sufficiently why they deserve to win over their opponent. Attempting to schedule a battle is required in order to receive the win by activity. To make it clear that you are requesting an activity win when you post, you must open your post with "Activity Win Request" in bold.
Example
If you believe your opponent is making an unfair request and that they don't deserve the activity win over you, you can either make your own request or quote their post and explain why they don't deserve it. You should try to make your activity win request posts at least 24 hours before the deadline to give your opponent a reasonable opportunity to contest it with their own activity win request. Timer / Disconnection Rules: Timer Clause will be strictly enforced for this tournament. This means that the normal disconnection rules found in the Tournament Rules, Guidelines, and Information thread do not apply. If a player disconnects and does not reconnect to their battle before the timer expires, they lose that particular game. This doesn't necessarily mean they lose the entire best-of-three set. Known Bugs For informational purposes, those who play their games on Showdown should be aware of the known bugs listed here. Compulsive liar Bad Ass is best known for his twenty-seven different and conflicting identities; unfortunately, we have yet to find one that is any good at Pokemon. Fortunately for him, his opponent, ballabrown24, is just as mediocre. Though he is known mostly for his near-100% loss rate, he is also notorious for his affinity for Dodrio, colored pants, and Limitless's hair. Ultimately, this match will probably be decided not by Pokemon skill, for little exists between the two, but rather, who will be banned again first. (most likely ballabrown24) ~ Eo Ut Mortus ballabrown24 vs. Bad Ass After recently quitting Pokemon for 16 consecutive hours, ballabrown24 is finally back and ready to take on DPP Underused veteran, Smogon Tour semifinalist and the prestigious Pass the Trash tournament victor Bad Ass. Despite the great challenge that he faces, Ballabrown should not be underestimated either; as a runner up in OST7 and head of Smogon's "kacaw" social group, there is more to this user than meets the eye. However, seeing as how he has never actually gotten any ass before, there is a good chance he will be caught off guard for this match. Will Bad Ass do as his hero Kevin Garnett would and pull the game-winning move, or will ballabrown24 power up the pikachu and channel the spirit of the legendary dodrio? This ultimate battle will surely be a match that you do not want to miss. ~ Delta 2777 Lavos Spawn vs ShakeItUp In one corner, we have someone no one can stand. In the oth-well it seems like they're both standing in the same corner...Anyways, we're back for a rematch of last year's WCOP's Final West vs East. Will ShakeItUp get to play this time and make Lavos Spawn ShutItUp? Or will Lavos spawn out some more unwarranted trash talk? But if you instead prefer a match up where both users are mutes, refer to the next match up below! ~ Aeroblacktyl M Dragon vs Krack M Dragon is well known as one of the best Spanish players and is talented in a very wide range of tiers across every generation, something very uncommon among even some of the most successful tournament players on Smogon. He faces the illustrious Krack, one of the most consistently strong players on Smogon over the past few years. Krack has taken a break from Pokemon recently but has returned for this tournament, and is probably one of those with a good shot at winning. This clash between veterans is sure to be one of the best matches this round, don't miss it. ~ Earthworm Deadline The deadline for Round 2 will be 11:59PM EST on the 29th of December, 2012. Any matches not played by this time will be coin flipped unless one or both players have submitted a request for an activity win. Thanks to Zracknel for the amazing logo! |
