Smogon Shoddy Server Statistics - November 2008
Sorry for the delay in getting these stats put up this month. I was trying to get some new stats added, and I had numerous bugs that kept coming up. I finally decided to abort my new stat functions, and I ran the regular stats that I have done in the past. Maybe next month I will have my new "surprise" ready for everyone. Until then, you'll have to make do with these -- (that's not so bad, right?)
Usage and Leads are listed in the posts directly below this one. As you'll see, there is a new king pokemon on the Standard ladder! I'll wait and see what the rest of you think about the changes from last month before throwing in my two cents.... Links to detailed stats are listed here: Smogon Standard Ladder Details - Nov. 2008 Since we did not have a suspect ladder last month, you will notice there are no suspect stats either. Common sense probably, but I wanted to make it clear, so you guys don't hit me with PM's asking "Where are the suspect stats?" These stats were gathered from 257,808 individual battles that were fought during the month of November on the Smogon Shoddy Battle Server. Happy stat hunting! |

look at Hitmontop and Frosslass go :D
|
Thanks again Doug
Bleh I don't know how scizor gets to be the number one used pokemon, a lot of useful counters for it =/ |
FLYGON IS IN OU!!
It's about time >:) EDIT: Also interesting to note that crawdaunt runs the mixed set most of the time. And Alakazam is OU now too. What frustrates me is how suicide leads are still so popular. Azelf is still the number one lead, with Infernape, Metagross and Aerodactyl all sitting in the top 10 leads as well. |
Wow, Skymin at 17? Gengar almost out of the top 10? Sheesh...also surprised at Rhyperior being higher than Jolt/Cresselia...what a weird list hahah
|
Huh, OU really did shift quite a bit in November, didn't it?
|
What exactly made Hitmontop gain so much usage?
|
I'm still waiting for the day when Electivire drops to BL
|
hitmontop is used so much in uu because ...fantastic defensive capabilities, a good rapid spinner because of sr resist, stone edge and close combat available (with STAB on CC), techtop, and to top it off, can easily beat common pokemon such as swellow, steelix, froslass, ect.
|
Yay, Rhyperior and Flygon are in OU. If the cutoff is 50, then so is Empoleon :)
|
Outrage has certainly made Flygon one of many people's new fav Chomp subs.
And rhyperior was always sexy with that subSD set...wonder why it didn't get more usage till now. |
A certain topic promoting its use by Colonel M may have helped a bit.
|
Is there someone out there who makes sure that every single unbanned pokemon gets used on the standard ladder at least once?
It sure seems like there is. |
And Scizor tops the ladder...
|
Shaymin-s at 17th surprises me, if it's an Uber as over 50% of the voters seem to believe, i would have thought it would be higher ranked. Never the less, it doesn't really mean anything about it's overall ability.
|
Wow, Flygon, Rhyperior and possibly Empoleon in OU =). This is great.
Lol Skymin at #17. And Hitmontop in UU is on fire too. These stats are great Doug, thanks a ton! Better late than never lol. LR. EDIT: Porygon2 is only 7 away from OU =)! Finally it's getting some more love. |
lol what a wild metagame, 100k scizor/heatran usages.. pert doing better than celebi!
glad to see flygon/rhyperior going strong. both are great pokemon given the metagame. I'm surprised heatran isn't a more common lead, shuca heatran is probably my fave lead of all time x___x edit: thanks a ton for the great work btw doug, again! |
I won't lie, none of this surprised me a whole lot OU-wise. I knew Rhyperior would climb out of BL eventually (fuck yeah!!!) and stuff like Shaymin-S being where it is. Flygon wasn't a real shocker either thanks to that nifty EdgeQuake resist and obtaining Outrage helped it out.
Uber-wise: here's something that I would've thought wouldn't be here: Scizor at #9. That's quite interesting actually. Even the king of mediocre (Deoxys-S) has hit #10, surpassing Deoxys-A and Deoxys-D. Meh, Slowbro should be used more IMO. >_>; And Electivire... I rarely see these things anyway, wonder how it magically hits #30. |
So can someone please explain why Dusknoir is so much higher than Spiritomb?
And I'm surprised with Jolteon, I see those things everywhere. SpecsJolt is pretty awesome, too. |
I seem to see Electivire all the time, it's quite annoying with all the Zapdos flying around and generally offensive nature of teams. Granted, it usually sucks, but I still see it.
|
Dusknoir has a little more of a vast movepool compared to Spiritomb. In reality, its limited to its Dark and Ghost-type moves. Granted, its offensive and defensive capabilities are above par, and Hidden Power patches the problem of the moves; however, I feel that Rotom's usurped Spiritomb in the Spin blocking department. Dusknoir has a few more uses I guess with a bigger physical movepool (Focus Punch, Earthquake, Elemental Punches) and other "grab bags".

Scizor finally got his place under the sun... as an old Scizor fanboy (since from the GSC era, when I got my first one), I may say I'm quite happy (but still surprised, as it's not impossible to counter!) with this. Now let's ban it =D
Cool that the top 3 pokémon have pretty close numbers. Back to the Garchomp era, it was always he at 100k and Gengar at 80k. Things are really more balanced now that the landshark is gone. |
