I am relatively new to smogon and competitive battling, but I know some good groups if you want me to make some recommendations.
I am one of the older smogon users if not the oldest at 45. I am married and have an 8 year old son and a 12 year old daughter.
What aspects of pokemon are you interested in? Pokemon online or PO, the computer program for battling online? Battling over the WI-FI on the pokemon black global battle union?
Creating pokemon thru breeding, RNG - Random Number Generation, or POkesav and Pokegen?
There are lots of social groups centered around pokemon on Smogon and groups that share info on different battle modes, specific pokemon, or strategies and gimmicks.
There is even a group for noobs, although it is not too active.
