Are you using Balck/white or 4th gen (platinum, Heartgold/soul Silver)?
4th gen you cant use with a secured connection, but 5th gen (Balck White 1 or 2) You can use with a secured connection as long as your internet is set up on your DSI.

Not to be nosy, but have you had a wifi battle before?
OK do you battle wifi or do you use pokemons showdown?
Also we have a BABA ranking system where if you battle other BABA members and reportthe results, it goes towards your ranking. I usually give new people the option of reporting our first battle if you win, but not reporting it if I luck out and win :)
