Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
I've been using this lately.
Typhlosion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Eruption
- Focus Blast
- Extrasensory
- Fire Blast
Modest nature ensures that Beast Boost increases Special Attack. The main purpose of this...
From Bulbapedia:
"Each time any of Protect, Detect, or Endure is successfully used without other moves used in between, the success rate will halve. In this generation, the success rate is implemented as a single byte over 256 which starts at the maximum of 255 and is floor-divided by 2 each...
From Bulbapedia's trivia:
"In Pokémon Gold and Silver, Oddish is programmed to be able to learn Charm through breeding, but no other Pokémon in the Grass Group can legitimately learn it to pass down as an Egg Move in those games. In Generation III and IV, Oddish can inherit the move from...
Another thing: people need to start using phazers on their UU teams. Otherwise Baton Pass teams and certain Curse users can just run over your team. I find Blastoise to be really good at this role, due to his natural bulk and access to Reflect. Haze can also work, yes, but Roar/Whirlwind also...
Pursuit Electabuzz is very interesting. It helps a lot in teams with a mono-normal attacker (Curse Granbull, Drum + LK Politoed, etc.), as it can snipe Haunter as it flees from a 2HKO.
Pineco is surprisingly good for a UU Spiker and Explosion is very helpful. His Explosion is stronger than...
In Link battles, Crystal's battle mechanics are reverted back to the Gold/Silver ones for compatibility purposes. Therefore the simulator is accurate as it is.
I think there's a bug involving Leech Seed and Roar/Whirlwind. In this battle: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen2uu-417081635, on turn 17 Jumpluff went for Leech Seed and then Blastoise Roared it out. But before Jumpluff was Roared out both poison and Leech Seed's damage were applied...
It already happened. The GSC UU tier list on the website was changed. Ampharos moved from BL to UU, Venusaur and Smeargle moved from UU to BL. No more differences now.
I don't feel Nidoqueen is ban worthy. She is the best yeah, but not OU-Snorlax level good. I've always dealt well with Nidoqueens, even using teams without her. On paper is different than in practice.
My Politoed had Rest because I paired him with a Heal Bell user (Granbull). But you're right, if used without Heal Bell support Rest is probably not that useful. Maybe LK over Rest and keep DE + EQ coverage.
I played in that tournament two years ago. Here's two sets that I've used.
Politoed @ Leftovers
Belly Drum
Double-edge
Earthquake
Rest
This guy got me a precious win against Isa. After the opposing team has been weakened and statused (mainly with paralysis), Belly Drum and go to town...
I think Freeze Clause is not necessary in GSC. The freeze chance is low (10%) and there's a chance of thawing out. Plus, as opposed to RBY, in GSC fire attacks are actually used. So if you predict a fire move incoming, you can switch in your frozen Pokémon to thaw it out.
