All Gens The "What if" thread - Topic #66 : Physical-Special split in ADV

Choice Band + RestTalk seems like an interesting combo? GSC Rest resets your sleep counter when called by Sleep Talk... so with a little bit of luck, a sleeping CB mon gets to enjoy RestTalk shenanigans with a "free" +1 Attack. You have to play a bit conservatively to get it ready to go - you...

All Gens The "What if" thread - Topic #66 : Physical-Special split in ADV

Raichu-A seems like a solid, straightforward upgrade. It's Raichu with slightly more Special, a Psychic type - and with it STAB Psychic - and a nice Speed tier bump. Psychic/Thunderbolt/Surf/Thunder Wave sounds legit. Muk-A might work (despite its garbo Special) just because it's the only one...

    R/S/E In-Game Tier List Discussion

I guess? But if you come out of Victory Road and you're not ready for endgame that's a pretty damning indictment of the party you're using right there.

Pokémon Diamond, Pearl & Platinum In-game Tier List Discussion

If you're talking about "weighting stats" your philosophy is wrongheaded, anyway. Stats don't matter. Good stats can be valuable, of course - but there are plenty of really good ingame Pokémon that work with decidedly mediocre stats. RBY/FRLG Clefairy is the first thing that comes to mind -...

All Gens Theorymon: Anything Goes in Gens 1-5

This... isn't ACE? The only code being executed is the code that's supposed to be. It's just that Platinum sets Giratina's form without recalculating its stats, if you set/remove the Griseous Orb from the right menu. It probably wouldn't be AG legal (infinite movepool glitches and the like...

    Blind BW

Between Zoroark, trappers, (note: Zoroark is also a really scary trapper, come to think of it - set up Swords Dance as something switches in and then Pursuit whatever you baited in. Illusion is a completely obnoxious ability in a blind format, and lets even a mediocre mon like Zoroark play a...

    Blind BW

First thing that come to mind as being much better in a non Team Preview format is Zoroark, which I think gets bumped from "lol" to "actually pretty legit." It's more or less a nonentity in standard BW play because it's really hard to surprise your opponent with a known Zoroark, right? Hazards...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

I actually did the Wishiwashi writeup back in November, but it's not really concise, so I went and cleaned it up a bit? Name: Wishiwashi: Availability: Brooklet Hill. It's a mandatory event encounter early into the game, so you may as well catch it - you have to fight it either way...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

It's not even just Pelipper. I'm just going to list off everything that plainly outclasses Politoed which you can get easily before Politoed bothers to show up. This assumes you don't take Popplio, too: -Pelipper -Gyarados -Wishiwashi -Araquanid -Starmie -Feraligatr/Azumarill if you wanna mess...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

I'm gonna back up Ribombee pulling its weight lategame. It has acceptable power, a typing that lets it one-shot the Dragon totem (add and all!) and sweeping potential with Calm Mind/Quiver Dance. And it outruns everything. There were times when its power was a bit iffy late in the game and the...

    Genesect

Extreme Speed and Blaze Kick on the Band set are from the event Genesect, which is locked to Hasty. (And shiny, fwiw, so "this set has Shift Gear, Extreme Speed, and/or Blaze Kick" is telegraphed, which probably warrants noting.)

    OU Pelipper

Nitpick and quite possibly a dumb question, but: why -Attack instead of -Speed? If a large part of Pelipper's utility is in its slow U-turn... is there anything it actually wants to outrun? -Speed (and a 0 Speed IV for good measure) doesn't actually outslow anything particularly important off...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

I don't think Greninja is eligible for tiering? Yeah, it's infinitely repeatable, but it's still an "event" that you have to get by connecting to a separate piece of software. It's like ranking bonus disc Jirachi in Ruby/Sapphire. Well, except that Greninja isn't nearly as broken as WISHMKR...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

Island Scan came up earlier. Since the mons that appear are predictable (based on day of the week) I'd argue it should be allowed? 10 quick scans and then an island scan to get a specific mon isn't so bad at all. But, unfortunately, where on the island a mon appears seems to be random. So you...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

Grimer-A was my big surprise; dittoing the "rad mon" thing. It has lots of immediate power and way more bulk than you expect it to have, and Poison/Dark is a really nice typing, to boot. It has a fairly short dead period, as these things go, but it just about keeps up by acquiring Crunch and...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

Decidueye has exactly one thing going for it: Sinister Arrow Raid messes shit up. It's got a hurtier Z-move than anything else that can afford to spare its item slot will have for a while, once it evolves and you get the Decidium Z. But Rowlet is trash, Dartrix is trash, and Decidueye is slow...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

Giratina93 Wishiwashi is definitely slow af, but I think you're overestimating the amount of out-of-battle support it requires? If you buy a stack of discount Potions at the Thrifty Megamart, that'll basically cover keeping its tank filled for the rest of the game. The awful HP stat becomes...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

Actually, occurs to me that I may as well do a breakdown for my hobby horse (well, fish) here. Wishiwashi for Broken-Ass Tier Availability: Brooklet Hill, with a guaranteed encounter. It's early and you have to fight it, so you may as well catch it. Stats: Incredible offenses and defenses...

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

I used Charge Beam. It is trash. 55 base damage, SpA boosts when you don't need them, and a bad habit of missing at the worst possible time. Volt Switch would probably be better, although it does basically force you to give Raichu the Electrium if you want it to take out multiple mons.

Sun / Moon In-Game Tier List

Pichu is definitely too high, from my experience. A-Raichu is pretty great, but the problem is you're near the end of island 2 before you get the Thunder Stone. Until then, you're using Pichu/Pikachu, and both of them are pretty awful. Pichu dies to everything, gets further from evolution with...
