A simpler and more realistic approach: make it so the bots in the vs. AI games don't constantly autoattack. That's probably where most people pick up the habit, "oh, they're just sitting there pushing the wave, that means I'm probably supposed to do it too". and have it show the money that bots...

Played it again recently and it doesn't really hold up too well in the wake of uncharted, assassin's creed, etc. the overworld is SO small and the combat is just button mashing the camera stuff is cool though
