  1. Apparently science = industry/business

I found this argument fascinating on both sides. Thought I'd share some thoughts. Be careful about misrepresenting the content of DK's argument and then criticizing that (strawman fallacy). I totally agree with the idea of branding "skeptics" as deniers. You have to do scientific research and...

Cut some of the quote for brevity. Sorry it's been 5 days since you asked this question, but here's my reply: I don't know if you're doing high bar (olympic) squats or low bar squats. If you're doing high bar squats, I've never learned those, so I don't have any info for you. (Keep in mind...

To add, I have gotten much more bacne since I started my strength training my program. I take lots of food, milk, and whey protein. So I wouldn't take increased acne to mean that the supplement alone is raising your test levels

Sounds like bro science to me, HBK. I squat 240 for 3x5 today. While no colossal feat, my numbers are still going up from November when I started, even though I don't post all that much. This thread got me interested, and I seem to be sticking to working out, so thanks all.

I was hanging out with my friends out of town this weekend, and one small girl whom I don't see very often allowed me to attempt to clean and jerk her (pun intended). But seriously, I was crouched down, she lay across my knees, I cleaned her up to my shoulders, and almost locked her out above my...

The flu was nasty this year, I've been reading all about it. Not only did everybody in my work get it, and most of them were sick for two days, but all the guys for the training logs I follow were also reporting some degree of sickness. In short, kal, don't sweat it. We're doing this for the...

This is what it takes. Nobody can make you happy but yourself, and nobody will do what it takes to make you happy unless you do it. Good job, and good luck

There are some really funny spectacles at the gym right around the New Year's. I'm moving, though, and where I'm going the gym is in my basement, so I'll miss it. I haven't posted here in awhile. I'm up to 206 BW(20 lb. gain), deadlifted 2 plates last week, up at 205 for squats. Things are...
  9. The Smogon 5K Challenge

In my personal experience, I got cramps for about the first month of running, and after my body adapted to the stress of regular cardio exercise, I didn't get them anymore. I've had inconsistent success with nutrition and other things, but getting better at running helped a bunch. Hope it helps...

Weighed in at 197lbs. tonight, having started at 186 on November 5. Considering I had gotten to 192 around Nov. 21, this increase to 197 represents a lack of eating discipline. It's funny how I've gained 11 pounds, and it feels like a setback- progress is progress, but I'm now rededicating...

Nosferalto, from a skinny motherfucker starting out with strength training (me), that is an incredibly inspring before/after photo. Congratulations, keep up the good work, and thank you.

I, too, would love to run Lee, if I lived where you did. I looked up one of your posted running routes and I was baffled by how much green was occupying google maps. So much nature! I could stand to live in the boonies for a few years of my life anyways.

Excellent pics, Blak. You look like an entirely different person. I think since you've had enough discipline to make it this far, you won't run into issues maintaining your cardio gains while bulking up. Good luck with that.

Two thoughts: Don't wait till 1/1/2013 to start, start tonight. Seriously, after a month into it, I'm wishing I were 3 months into it, so don't put off your gains and success by an arbitrary 30 days just so it can be called a "New Years Resolution." Pick whichever routine you like, they'll both...

Welcome to the thread, Capt. My personal sentiment is that going from outdoor cardio to a treadmill is awful because I really got used to enjoying the scenery, and as a tall, long-limbed distance runner, the treadmill really cut my stride short. The staying in one place is demotivating, and I...

Just because I found the speech to be motivational (adj.), I would definitely not classify it as a "motivational speech." I'm a geek who loves to learn as much as I can, and this man is an emergency room physician who happens to study strength science as a hobby. In this video, he's delivering...

URGH I had a long message typed up, and I slid my two fingers right on my dad's macbook, and poof! No more reply. It has been three weeks of lifting and increased calorie intake so far. My weight went from 186 lbs. to 192 lbs. (or slightly less than 3 kilos), most of which I attribute to...
  20. The Fashion Thread

Well, I'm biting myself today. I spent some time checking out reddit's male fashion advice subforum only a few days after spending about $200 on some cold weather stuff. I tried to just find clothes that I liked with nice colors and textures, but being a total noob at fashion, I hadn't even...
