  1. New and 'creative' moveset/EV spread thread Mk. 5

For the Kingdra, I would go with Sniper over Swift Swim. If you have rain, you are faster than just about everything anyway and the scarf is worse than overkill; it is a hindrance. And if there is no rain, Swift Swim is pointless. It probably won't make much of a difference, but the chance to...
  2. Of any single 5th gen Pokemon, which would you want to use in Gen 4?

I think I'd take Roobushin. The only things it has to worry about are Gyarados with some combination of bulk, Taunt, or Bounce, and Skarmory before it has set up. Basically it's gg unless they have a strong Psychic or Flying attack, and they can survive a boosted STAB priority fighting attack.
  3. Most Overrated 4th Gen Pokemon in OU?

This. Blissey defines what is and what is not a good special attacker. Special sweepers who can't beat Blissey either disappear like Raikou, Porygon-Z, and Alakazam or find other niches like Starmie as a spinner or Zapdos as a defensive counter. Besides, many of the special attackers able...
  4. Most Overrated 4th Gen Pokemon in OU?

Are we referring to most overrated at the beginning or the end? If it's the beginning, wouldn't that be Rhyperior? I wasn't really around when Gen IV came out so I'm not really sure, but I've heard there was quite a bit of hype about something with 115 base HP, 140 base Atk, 130 base Def and...
  5. Metagame before Smogon / Competitive Pokemon

I didn't have much experience with Gens III & IV before Smogon, but my memory of "competetive" RBY is that every team revolved around killing/disabling their Mewtwo so yours could sweep with Amnesia (which raised both offensive and defensive capabilities at the time), since Mewtwo's best counter...
  6. Counter List

I think this is a good idea because it puts all of the threats and their counters in one place, as opposed to scattered all over the strategy dex. Also, it lists specific sets to be used. Perhaps it could also be expanded to go the other way. You could do a similar format for defensive sets...
  7. Ambipom's Wrath (OU Warstory)

That is something that could have gone into your comments to let us know what your plan was, because otherwise switching Azelf into Gyarados would have been a very foolish move. And +2 max speed Gyarados still outspeeds +1 max speed Azelf, though the presence of Leftovers was a pretty good clue...
  8. Ambipom's Wrath (OU Warstory)

How did your Azelf outspeed his +2 Gyarados? The battle was not bad, and you had some good predictions, especially with Zapdos, though your opponent did not seem very good. Some of the comments were pretty helpful, but especially toward the end they kind of became short and factual, without...
  9. Rain in OU?!?! (An OU Warstory by The Ush)

This was a great warstory! I liked how you used each of your pokemon to their fullest advantage, even if it meant sacrificing them. Also, good call at the end with Superpower instead of Bullet Punch. Too many people (myself included) would jump straight to the signature move without stopping...
  10. New and 'creative' moveset/EV spread thread Mk. 5

About the Breloom, I'm just wondering what Substitute accomplishes for you. This set looks like it could force a lot of switches, so maybe Focus Punch, despite the loss in surprise factor, is a decent alternative. Even without Attack EV's, 150 BP STAB with 130 base Attack is going to hurt...
  11. Nodding Along an OU Ladder Match

The commentary was good for most of the battle, and I enjoyed reading your thoughts as the battle progressed. Unfortunately, your knowledge of the metagame is very inconsistent. Your knowledge appears to be completely experiential, giving you reasonable insight into team building, but leaving...
  12. Explosions in a Lab - an OU warstory

The ending was really disappointing because it seemed like your opponent was just toying with you. You had nothing to outspeed his Infernape and he knew it, so he wasted time by Bullet Punching and X-Scissoring your Heatran. Also, he let your Kingdra live at 2% when he had nothing to lose by...
  13. 2-for-1 sale - this warstory MUST go!

Yeah the battle wasn't that good. Why did you leave Gengar in against Togekiss when you could have switched Raikou into a predicted Air Slash? Why did he use Bullet Punch against Swampert when he could have KOed you with But Bite? Also, Bullet Punch, the reason Scizor is OU in the first...
  14. Volcarona

What about taking advantage of the weakness to SR and using Swarm+Substitute to boost your attacks? Maybe something like this: Urugamosu @ Salac Berry/Petaya Berry Swarm Timid HP to activate Berry after 1 Substitute / the rest in Spe and SpAtk Substitute Fire Blast Bug Buzz HP Rock /...
  15. Jirachi

The first CM set leaves you completely walled by the Dark/Ground thing, Warubiaru, as well as the Dark/Dragon, Sazando. I'm not sure how prominent they will be in whatever tier Jirachi finds itself, but you might have to play around with some coverage moves to cover these weaknesses.
  16. OverPower - The Reason why Average Pokés are going to lose space in Gen V teams.

Just based on the Base Stat analysis done by Alex_Dino in his Power Creep thread, much of what the OP says actually could happen. Compared to other generations, the Gen V balance between offense and defense has shifted heavily toward the offensive side. In Gen I, when offensive stats were on...
  17. Pokémon Power Creep: A Statistical Analysis

Here is the link to my updated spreadsheet: http://www.2shared.com/file/Cg3nD7t3/Power_Creep.html Interestingly, every stat has increased from Gen I to Gen V except SpDef. Also, the Fully Evolved, Combined stats are probably inaccurate and less useful for two reasons. One, there are too many...
  18. Pokémon Power Creep: A Statistical Analysis

I finished the Fully Evolved, Separate data set and fixed a few inconsistencies (you counted Tyrogue four times in the Fully Evolved, Combined data, for example), but I'm not sure how to upload it. The trends are somewhat different from what the other data sets show. For example, Defenses...
  19. A themed Warstory (Brock Versus Lance)

How in-depth were you going with the themed teams? Was it pokemon only, or did you copy movesets from the anime as well? That could explain some of the weird movesets mentioned above. Also, I think many of the questionable plays could be attributed to overprediction, especially by your...
  20. Pokémon Power Creep: A Statistical Analysis

This is really interesting. While browsing through the base stats, I definitely noticed that speeds especially seemed to be shifted toward the higher end, with many well above base 100. Just keep in mind that Pokemon is a multi-dimensional game, and it takes more than stats to make a good...
