  1. My First Warstory...original title, eh?

I feel the need to say the following about hax. I really don't understand why people call them hax, given that really, its simple percentages, and the fact is that pokemon is often about playing the numbers as much as it about strategy, and one does not mean the other can't exist. In fact...
  2. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

Welp, it was worth a thought and since the overwhelming response is negative, I suppose the thought has been had. Feel free to lock this if you like. However, I'd like to address a few secondary points. AlleyViper: I'm well aware of my slightly problematic use of parentheticals. Trust me, it...
  3. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

ForumAddict: I think considering a reassessment of the presentation of the tier list is important too. Besides, given that the tier discussion has temporarily been locked, well, why not discuss the system until we can get back to Ubers and OUs? L2m6w5: A large part of my decision to adjust...
  4. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

A fair enough explanation, chaos, and I could see the reasoning behind keeping it. The problem I see with it though is that it can well be misleading and problematic though, because a singular tier list is trying to to represent several different things: 1. Its trying to subdivide the...
  5. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

Additionally, its worth noting that pokemon tiers aren't really like fighting game tiers. Fighting game tiers tiers serve as a simple measurement of character potential, whereas pokemon tiers are more akin to individual metagames.
  6. Changing our Metagame Plan: Sixth Tier proposition.

The thing about that is, these transitional tiers are totally pointless unless somebody actually supports and uses them. I'd gamble almost anything that it would end up just like BL: a transitional tier that doesn't matter except to further subdivide a tier system that doesn't need it.
  7. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

To try and clarify, for the most part, my system isn't as massive an overhaul as my wall of text would suggest. Basically, I am proposing a simplification of the system in the following ways: eliminating the element of popularity from competitive arrangement, discarding waste (notably the BL...
  8. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

Ah, but could a similar effect be created by just instating a blanket ban of things that limit OU (the Dragons, the "true OUs," etc) instead of generating another silly tier? Look at it sort of like Magic the Gathering (I apologize for using this example repeatedly, but its the most similar to...
  9. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

Its not that complicated, no, but its all about presentation and eliminating waste. Without wanting to go hugely into it again right this moment, just look at your breakdown. Right there we already have a completely pointless tier: BL. You have three metagames drawn out, but have four tiers...
  10. Changing our Metagame Plan: Sixth Tier proposition.

How funny that this was posted while I was writing up a proposition on condensing the current tier list, because I find that it alienates more pokemon. :p These "between tiers" (Borderline and your proposed TOU or what not) seem to never actually get used and end up just being another name for...
  11. Why the split qualification of tiers? (Alternative Tiers)

Let me be up front right here. Depending on who you talk to, there are 5-6 different tiers (Ubers, OU, BL, MU, UU, NU). Of these tiers, there are three that seem to played with any regularity (Ubers, OU and UU), one that is a faux tier (BL), one that isn't really accepted by the community at...
  12. Playing with favorites and playing with odds... AndrewRogue vs Notty

Its less a "being looked down on" thing and more a "Smogon is the premiere competitive battling site, so this might not quite be in tune with what they consider an acceptable warstory." ^_~ Anyhow, I definitely agree that I filled this to the brim with cheese. But, really, isn't feel good...
  13. Playing with favorites and playing with odds... AndrewRogue vs Notty

Really? How weird. My bad for not double checking that. The only thing I can think is he misjudged how fast Ninetales is. A shame, that kinda lames this battle up a lot more.
  14. Playing with favorites and playing with odds... AndrewRogue vs Notty

A Shoddy Battle WARNING: The following warstory is long and contains both fluffy writing AND off-tier pokemon. I kind of hope some close play and (hopefully) some clever moves will alleviate these faults. If not, well... hello to the mods and goodbye to my post :p Its might not be the ideal...
  15. Shoddy Battle, a new D/P simulator

Aside from the obvious problems (which are... well... obvious :p) and the bugs, this program has one huge advantage over most others. Its available. ^_~ Seriously though, aside from the slightly buggy tendencies of java and some odd bugs (Trace loves them >_> ), I'm enjoying the hell out of...
  16. What is the best set for a Pokemon?

Blah, blah. Of course if you're playing to win you either play to the meta or you play anti-meta, which still means using the best or using something different for a very specific and effective goal. However, as a "casual" player who uses things he likes, I feel the need to address two points...
  17. More Casual Communities for other resources?

Okay, okay. Disclaimer here: I like Smogon. A lot. You guys are smart, knowledgeable and tend to be the cutting edge for competitive battling. And, elitism aside (you guys have obviously earned it, even if it is a little irking to sensibilities sometimes), you guys are obviously some of the best...
  18. Ho-Oh, formally known as Ho-Oh MY GOD THAT THINGS UBER!

Of course, on the other side of the fence, who needs to switch in when dear ol' Ho-Oh can just ram a Sacred Fire right into any switch-in and prolly give it enough of a dent to make it think twice about hanging around, especially if that good ol' 50% chance of burning comes into play. And, of...
  19. Stalling thread.

I've been debating some pokemon's stalling potential, which has lead me to some oddball set ideas. Like... Spiritomb@Lefties Pressure +SpDef/-Att; 252 HP, 128 SpDef, 128 Def -Protect -Substitute -Taunt/Spite/Hypnosis -Pain Split Silly, silly idea and really needs support to even have a chance...
  20. Like a Steel Trap - Registeel Discussion

CoolTrainer: Perhaps my math is failing me, but wouldn't Leftovers on the Registeel keep him out of the 3HKO range?
