  1. Pokémon XY General Discussion

Sounds like Earthbound; fighting five enemies who you can only KO one at a time, who each attack you once per turn. That was... horrible...

Pokécheck reckons a bunch of my non-RNG'd Pokémon are suspicious because of how good they are. Actually quite proud of that :D If they're orange, then they're theoretically fine, but: 1. You probably already know this but you need to download them through PokéGTS or something like that to avoid...
  3. 2013 International Challenge -April- [RANKING RELEASED]

Everybody seems to be so upset about disconnectors this time that they've just not bothered, even very dedicated players. Personally I've only had 2 disconnectors out of 12 matches. To be fair, most of the people I've played either had sub-1500 ratings anyway, so must not care about their...

Yeah, I know a lot of people (myself included) who've had hack checks with hacked things in their PC (shiny Magikarp with explosion, anyone?) and passed them. A lot of people prefer to be absolutely safe though; they can always change the hack checker, and if you're at all serious it probably...

Not true. Each stat drop/increase is a smaller factor than the last. To be specific: +1 -> *1.5 +2 -> *2 +3 -> *2.5 +4 -> *3 Stat decreases are the inverse. Accuracy stat changes are different factors but the same idea.

It's worth saying though that speed changes are the only things that take until next turn to come into effect. So for example if your Sawsbuck used Solarbeam on the turn Ninetales switches in, it would get charged up straight away.

No Guard + DynamicPunch Machamp is the ultimate counter. Otherwise taunt it or hope you win a PP war. I would guess Aura Sphere would never do enough damage to overcome leftovers+softboiled, but that could work too.

I've used Crobat and Golbat quite a lot, and eviolite Golbat is really nice, and can usually get a fair few hits in (even Metagross's Zen Headbutt and Zapdos's Thunderbolt are 2HKOs or 3HKOs depending on whether you go special or physical) but personally I usually run Crobat, for its ability to...

Shocked at the lack of Hitmontop, Garchomp, Chandelure, Terrakion and Tornadus in your lists. A bunch more like Zapdos, Sableye, Whimsicott, Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Hydreigon, Jellicent, Ninetales, Reuniclus, Scrafty and Suicune are common enough that you should consider them as threats when...
  10. 2012 VGCS Winter Battle - Biosci wins!

Registration's open, right? Has anyone tried entering with Soul Dew? I remember hearing it was supposed to be banned and the rules just didn't mention it, but it'd be nice to know for sure. EDIT: Derp, assumed it was the same page as VGC rules.

Keep in mind you'll also have to get it to level 20 without interfering with the attack or defence EVs (although small changes probably won't effect it), and depending on what IVs it has (assuming you're not RNGing/getting perfect stats) the stats might be different as well. Personally I've...
  12. VGC Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer - Mark II

I've found entry hazards to be a pretty underrated tactic in VGC; even though it's only guaranteed to hit two Pokémon, good players do tend to switch a lot. It's especially hilarious when people switch out a focus sash'd Pokémon and then get hit with Stealth Rock before they can get back in...

Here in Europe it's always been single elimination so far (though there are rumours of a changing format), but if you're in America, then yeah, swiss it is. But in single elimination, it's really pot luck who you come up against; you could be completely new to the game and win because your...

Arcanine works excellently with Gastrodon; Intimidate accounts for Gastrodon's slightly lower physical defence, and Arcanine can take care of grass-type Pokémon that threaten Gastrodon, while in return, Gastrodon can stop non-spread water moves (and dissuade the opponent from using spread moves)...

It isn't that they make more money from the TCG than the Video Games in general, it's that the TCG tournaments earn them more money (because it encourages/requires people to buy more packs), whereas for the video game tournaments, players only need the game and a DS, which, 99% of the time...
  16. Autumn Friendly 2012

I came 361st. I'm... pleasantly surprised, solely because I only played for about three hours in total. Also, I like the breakdown of most used moves and stuff... 97% of Garchomps had Earthquake, and 0.8% of them were Brave 0_o Didn't think Trick Room Garchomp was a thing...

There's also the fact that, as months pass, different strategies become more common, so people change their team either to make use of newly popularised strategies or to counter them. For instance, at UK nationals there was barely a successful team that didn't include Zapdos, while at worlds I'm...
  18. B2W2 - The Beginning Cup - A hint of things to come?

Actually, Slaking has 100 base speed. No way is it going Trick Room-y. Not that it matters, since Gastro Acid/Skill Swap/Mummy tactics tend to go very wrong very easily. Don't suppose anything has been confirmed about Beginning Cup being held for the Western versions? I guess it was a few...
  19. Autumn Friendly 2012

It's ended now. Final record: 21-4-2, 1663 Not too bad. Definitely a few losses I could have won given some better damage rolls, and two well-deserved losses, but at least I've finally found out the best way to counter rain teams with this team (though my next VGC team will definitely have a...

I would imagine the BW2 anti-disconnect measures work by the same system as a few other Nintendo games, where it saves that you disconnected before the match begins, and then overwrites it if you either get a connection error or finish the match. Therefore, it's only saved as a disconnect if you...
