Last years tournament pit trainers from the US and Japan against each other for the first Pokemon Video Game Showdown, 16 trainers from each country participated. Quite a few trainers from Smogon participated in the two qualifying tournaments in Los Angeles and New York City, and several made it all the way to Orlando, the site of the finals.
