The RS Swellow can be annoying with double team, Marshtomp has only mud shot and takedown. In emerald you will always fight two grass types because of Tropius and Ludicolo. It's not very memorable and Wally of all people proves to be a better and more memorable rival in the end, isn't that sad.
A simple balancing out of types would be useful for the rse rival in general. Also a really bad placement, since if I remember you can just ignore your rival if you don't need the department store in their final match.

I dunno about that, the one under Cycling Road can be a bit of a problem if you're not adequately prepared. The one just outside Rustboro is thankfully optional, though with Brawly coming up you're probably going to want the experience. By the time you're pulling out of the Weather Institute on the way to Fortree, yeah, they're a joke.
Bertha. I mean, Whiscash is the only thing preventing that crone from getting soloed by a decently leveled Empoleon. Golem AND Rhyperior on the same team screams "surf me to death" even with the Hippowdon lead.
