Purugly has a mediocre attack stat, horrible defenses and a solid speed stat. At first it doesn't look like much but with Toxic Orb to boost Facade to 140 base power, after one swagger Purugly's mediocre attack is looking very nice combined with a base power 140 STAB attack and with the speed to boot. It will ohko just about everything bar resist and immunity. Protect for toxic orb to activate. A teammate using tailwind, taunt, etc first turn helps a lot. Shadow Claw to hit ghost pokemon and wake up slap to hit what resists everything else.

I find using support pokemon like Whimiscott and Sableye, setting up a tailwind first turn helps against scarf users, taunt protects you from trick room, encore can help break through protect spam for less prediction required. Most importantly priority swagger boosts Purugly to scary levels and tears wholes in their team.
