I always remember the professors, probably because they always show up first. Also I think Red was the hardest NPC, I had to bring my level 60 team from Platinium to beat him in hgss. (Gyarados sweep.Hehe.)

RBY Misty was pretty impressive as a gym leader imo. I mean, it's your second Gym, you've got a piddling team of NFE pokemon, and your strongest moves against her is a 40 base power vine whip (maybe).

On the other side, she busts out a fully evolved OU special sweeper with a STAB base 60 attack coming from one of the best offensive types in the game, water. FUCK (the RBY animation for bubblebeam was simply epic to match)

If you were like me and had a team of 6 13-14 pokemon with no ivysaur on your first run (or frankly, even with ivysaur), you were like, FUUUUUCK!!!

In RBY: The old man who teaches you how to catch a Pokemon, in Viridian City. I mean, he was the opening for Missingno AND really needed some coffee. >_>

Overall: Definitely that one trainer in the Survival Zone in D/P/Pl. "Hello traveling trainer! Is your bag full of items, or is it full of dreams?" Never gets old.

I have to give Wally some support, fantastic coming of age story rolled into just a couple of battles. But in the end, I've got to throw my lot in withRival from GSC. (I always named him Rival, because I figured I wouldn't have learned his name.) He made the game more personal, because you actually "knew" one of the enemies. It was also interesting to see him turn from a snot-nosed brat to a guy who obviously had some self-esteem problems. I went from hating him to pitying him. He was the first video game character who I really connected with.

RBY Misty, no doubt. It took me for-freaking-ever to get past that Starmie of hers. I even tried trading in an Articuno from a friend's game, and it beat me b/c Articuno wouldn't listen to me, lol. Eventually, I just gave up and rare candied leveled Butterfree to ~mid 30's range and handed Misty hers.

Bugsy comes in a close second in GSC and HG/SS. That Scyther had to be hacked, it took out my fucking Quilava. And don't even get me started on how hard it is to beat if you use Chikorita.

Rocket Grunts, duh...it seemed that even though they were typically all the same, they had their own personalities! And were often silly. Not only this, they were the best level-check in the game, aside from gyms. If you couldn't get past at least three without needing a Pokecenter, it was more than likely time to grind up a few levels, even if 90% of their damage was from being poisoned.

Lance was always hard to beat, and with each game, you're bound to forget to save in front of him, or in front of GARY FUCKING OAK/Blue and screw something up. (if you could save there in RBY...can't remember)

As awesome as GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK/Blue/Rival can be, I always have a harder time with Lance, and therefore he's noteworthy of being my favorite in my book.

GARY GODDAMNMOTHERFUCKING OAK/Blue/Rival will always remembered from the feeling I get while looking upon his pokemon. His pokemon always looked scary, and most looked down on the player. Even the retarded sprite of Pidgeot was enough to wet my young pants a little.

Though he was easier than Lance (slightly), he had his own awesomness, aside from always being there to kick your ass when you thought he wasn't looking as you explored a new area or left.

And lastly, Master Roshi outside Celedon Gym.

But for pure epicness... it must be Sidney from RSE. I walked in there at one in the morning. He laughs at me. And BAM, I'm Intimidated. It was a great way to start the Elite Four.

And of course... Red/Blue in GSC. Blue was EPIC because you got to meet your rival, all grown up and mature. Then you battled him and saw how he'd changed. Then... Red. You walk in there and you see yourself. It's on.

And Misty. Yes, lets pit my level 13 Charmander (first evolution of a NU) against a level 20 Starmie (destroys about half of OU by itself, and has a SE STAB attack against you). Great one for the kiddies there.
