Hey Guys,
This is my first team, before you rate it, REMEMBER: This is a DS team. That means no legendaries, and I think it means no similar items, but i have repeat items anyway because I think you can change the rules. Now that we have that out of the way, lets get to the fun part. THE TEAM BUILDING PROCESS: ![]() First off, Ferrothorn. He is one of the two pokemon that I HAD to have on my team, I didn't know in the meta he was any good, I just knew he was a tank in-game because he was on my game team. Galvantula was another I had to have, I figured that as a lead, his volt switch would allow me to swap out to Ferrothorn while dealing massive damage, this is far more effective than using Ferrothorn straight out, just in case the opponent leads with a fighting or fire type. Ah pringles ghost, a perfect team mate for Ferro because of its resistances, also, he makes an effective stall, but he was one of the hardest to pick a moveset for. Gliscor came next because I realised I was short a flying type, and because I needed to combat fighting types as well as resist them. Tyranitar, because Tyranitar ![]() Reuniclus was added because I thought I needed another Special Sweep Team Movesets Galvantula@ Magnet Compoundeyes 252 SpAtt/252 Spd/4 HP Timid --------------------- Thunder Volt Switch Bug Buzz Energy Ball Hit em hard, hit em fast. That's what Galvantula does. STAB/Magnet thunder with almost 100 accuracy because of compoundeyes is quite the sight to behold. Volt switch is for scouting, so I can switch to Ferro for stealth rock, or TTar for instant Sandstorm. Energy ball is to KO anything that resists Volt Switch. ![]() Ferrothorn@ Leftovers Iron Barbs 252HP/252SpDef/4 Att Relaxed ---------------------- Curse Stealth Rock Power Whip Gyro Ball Most people expect Ferro to be packing a defensive moveset, but I opted for a more offensive one, for the element of suprise, and because after a curse or two, its defences are unparalleled, and its attack is quite menacing, even to many bulky pokemon. Jellicent@ Red Card/Shell Bell Water Absorb 248 HP/216 SpDef/44 Def Calm -------------------------- Recover Ice Beam Will-o-Wisp Hex Jellicent was so hard to pick moves for, and here is why: Recover was a no brainer, he is a stall after all, Ice beam is one of my only dragon counters, also helps for grass switch ins. I wanted a move that would status, so I originally ran scald, but that didnt burn frequently enough, Toxic had a better accuracy, but I went with WOW because apparently burns lower attack? and also, not many fire types would try and switch in on Jellicent. Hex over Hydro pump or surf because of the WOW Hex combo. Gliscor@ Toxic Orb Poison Heal 252Att/252Speed/4HP Adamant ---------------- Swords Dance Earthquake Fire Fang Ariel Ace Gliscor is meant to be a Sweeper after a SD, and I chose Fire Fang because if I didnt, I wouldnt have any Fire moves, It is also meant to counter Ice types. Ariel Ace is meant for Conkeldurr or other Fighting types. I couldnt think of an item for Gliscor! Also, Sand Veil for luck hax after TTar has set up a sandstorm. Tyranitar@ Expert Belt Sand Stream 252Att/252 Spd/4SpDef Adamant ------------------------- Crunch Dragon Dance Ice Fang Superpower After a Dragon Dance, crunch and superpower do serious damage. Ice Fang because of dragon types. Sand Stream is cool because only two of my team members get hurt by the sandstorm, also, the SpDf boost is nice, as is Gliscor's evasion boost. ![]() Reuniclus@ Life Orb Magic Coat 252HP/252 SpAtt/4 def Modest ------------------------------ Psychic Shadow Ball Focus Blast Recover focus blast for coverage, as with shadow ball, psychic for STAB, Recover for recovery. Life Orb because magic coat prevents LO recoil. Please rate, because I know my team has some massive holes, I just don't know what they are and I need advice. EDIT: I am considering running aggron, as he is one of my favorites, but I dont know who to replace! HALP! Last edited by sirShiggy; Apr 20th, 2011 at 1:23:52 PM. |

For galvantular I would opt fir electric jewel as i believe it gives a better boost. For jellicent I would have more sp def EVs as WoW lowers attack. For me gliscor would hold focus sash it allows at least one SD and he has enough speed to start hitting hard. Love the idea of telekinesis for the crappy focus blast accuracy. Your missing 4 EVs on the last three pokes and galvantular.

Oh wow! I never thought of any of those! That's really helpful. With the Evs, I didn't think 4 Evs were very important, so I left them out. For jellicent, how much more should I put into sp.df?Also, with galvantula, a magnet ensures that I get the boost every time. I was also considering running a flying jewel with acrobatics instead of AA.

If you're playing random wifi, item clause is in effect. This is also true for the official ladder.
I almost always run toxic orb with poison heal on gliscor (you can get it in windswept sky, on dream world). Sand gives a very solid defensive boost, and healing / status absorb wins me far more games than luck hax ever did. Sleep absorb is much more important on wifi, since there's no sleep clause, than on smogon's ladder. Cursed body on jellicent tends to mess up people lots of times, so I'd test it out, Water Absorb is fine though. Shell bell or some kind of berry instead of leftovers if you must, red card can also be fun. Float stone is good if you want to cut grass knot damage. Ferrothorn really does need those leftovers, so should keep them. Tyranitar looks okay, but for Reuniclus, get recover. I know your jellicent has recover too, but.... Reuniclus really shines with recover, I can't stress this enough. If you want to stick with a pure sweeper variety, and don't want recover at all, calm mind makes a good second choice. Telekinesis is usually a wasted move, and you're better off just using focus blast twice. Quote:
It doesn't change with Gen V, so everything is still valid. |

More good advice, thanks! I'll edit the OP as soon as I can get onto a computer, I might have some trouble getting the gliscor, but with reuniclus, telekinesis is there because even if I was really unlucky, I would hit with focus blast 2/3 of the time rather than a half, but I agree, recover seems like a much better option, also, with the numbers clause thing, im pretty sure IVs effect hp, and since I can't ensure the IVs are 31, I can't ensure the hp isnt 8 divisible, I can Only hope, another thing, does shell bell work with burn damage? Or would I have to spam hex to heal? And does red card phaze?

You'd have to spam hex or ice beam to heal, shell bell doesn't trigger off burn sadly.
Red card does phase, so is perfect for forcing a switch. Just remember that it only works once per battle, and you need to take a hit. For IVs, you can use the power items to guarantee an IV is passed on when breeding. Just remember to calculate for level 50 if you're focusing on a wifi team. There is a flat battle ladder on smogon too, so you can test around there before breeding. |

thats good, thanks. I think I may go with the shell bell, the red card sounds appealing, but it'll be better to have that bit more HP than to phaze just one poke. I was thinking that I might have my team as an online team as well as a wifi team, so I can do more battles. Another thing, dream world is still down, isnt it?
