[Overview]
Just entering the Little Cup world, Foongus can do little more than act as a utility, sporting Spore, Stun Spore, and Gastro Acid. With Evolution Stone, it can become a very bulky pokemon. It has a small movepool making it only capable of running limited sets, and has a bad recovery move which stops it from being a "wall". It is outclassed by its poison type brethren, such as Croagunk, Trubbish, and Tentacool, and is a very limited utility pokemon.
[SET] name: Status Inducer move 1: Spore move 2: Poisonpowder/Stun Spore move 3: Gasto Acid/Clear Smog move 4: Synthesis/Giga Drain item: Eviolite ability: Effect Spore nature: Calm Evs: 44 HP/156 Defense/236 Sp. Defense [SET COMMENTS]
The main allure of the set is Spore. Spore is a gem all on its own and basically a godsend for Foongus, boasting as the best status inducing move only legal on three Little Cup pokemon. Poisonpowder or Stun Spore depends on personal preference, whether your team needs to slow down the opposing opponent's pokemon or increase damage. Gastro Acid cripples Zuruggu and Meditite, allowing you to paralyze/poison/sleep Zuruggu without fear of Shed Skin and eliminate Meditite's Huge Power. Clear Smog removes boosts from set up sweepers such as Zuruggu, Timburr, and Gligar, allowing Foongus to take hits easier. Synthesis and Giga Drain are the best recovery Foongus gets outside of Oran Berry. Foongus has a fairly limited movepool and this is the best utility that Foongus can make out of it.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
There aren't many options that Foongus can make for movesets. Eviolite is the normal item Foongus should run, giving it defenses capable of taking hits. Poisonpowder is always superior over Toxic because it will kill off the opposing pokemon quicker then Toxic. Giga Drain vs Synthesis are personal preferance. Giga Drain is handy against Taunt, but Synthesis recovers more HP since Giga Drain won't be doing much damage. Foongus really likes to Spore anything it wants into oblivion and then switch out to let other stronger pokemon to its attacking work.
[OPTIONAL CHANGES]
Giga Drain is optional over Synthesis to not be screwed over by Taunters, but they are uncommon and you should switch out if Foongus gets Taunted in general. Again, Foongus has a limited movepool and cannot run many viable sets outside of this. Ingrain can be run over move 4 but Synthesis and Giga Drain are basically superior because of more healing and the ability to switch out against Taunters. A Growth set can be run but will most likely not be viable due to Foongus's pitiful speed stat and below average Sp. Attack and Attack.
[COUNTERS]
Fire-types are a pain in the butt for Foongus. Frillish and Slowpoke are amazing partners for Foongus because they walls fire types all day and are bulky pokemon that can take the hits Foongus can't. They always take care of Meditite, which is a solid counter to Foongus if you can't get off the Gastro Acid before an Ice Punch. Any pokemon carrying Taunt destroys Foongus and should be dealt with early game to improve Foongus's performance immensely.
[DREAM WORLD]
Foongus get Regenerator as an amazing Dream World ability and should always be run over Effect Spore when released because its recovery, allowing Foongus to live much longer. After this, Synthesis should be scrapped for Energy Ball.
Last edited by Pen Ink; Mar 21st, 2011 at 12:56:28 PM. Reason: Prefix |

[SET]
name: Status Inducer move 1: Spore move 2: Stun Spore / Toxic move 3: Giga Drain move 4: Clear Smog / Hidden Power Fire item: Eviolite ability: Regenerator nature: Bold / Calm Evs: 204 HP / 236 Def/Spdef Uh ok, this is just a suggestion, Imo the HP stat should be maxed and then a defensive stat to allow it to be very bulky in one and still a little in another thanks to Eviolite. Poison Powder shouldnt be used at all tbh, Toxic is a much better poison move, it even has better accuracy. Giga Drain is a must, Synthesis is pretty situational, and its nice to get some damage in while you heal :\ Clear Smogn actually can be cool to stop setup sweepers whereas HP fire could nail Ferroseed. Foonguss abolutely needs Regenerator Just a suggestion. I wrote the analysis for Amoonguss (evo) and it was similar to that one. It is actually a special wall but I think Foonguss could be a physical wall because LC is full of Fighting-type Pokemon.

You mention energy ball in the dw section, but giga drain is still better.
Foongus can run sludge bomb or hp rock to hit fire and flying types, but you miss out on steels. Quote:
Mention spore is a good way to kill off a counter. Mention natu as a 100% counter. Also tite has pure power, not huge power. Talk about what it has over shroomish and paras, like no sr weak, fighting resist, eviiolite, toxic immunity, clear smog, gastric acid, rock neutrality, etc
