Default Rufflet (Analysis)

[Overview]

  • With a base 83 Attack stat, it can cause serious damage to any switch in.
  • Impressive defensive stats, considering its awesome offensive stats.
  • Powerful STAB Attacks and U-turn help it plow through the opponent's team.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Pluck
move 2: Return
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: U-turn
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Encourage
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 36 Def / 196 Spe

Set Description:
  • Hits hard and fast.
  • Return is main STAB with Pluck to hit Ghosts.
  • Rock Slide hits Scyther, Sneasel, Yanma, Murkrow and Ghosts (to avoid recoil) as well as the Rock / Bugs floating around for super effective damage.
  • U-turn allows it to dent it's counter and switch out.
Additional Comments:
  • Thrash can work, 120 BP Normal attack could act similar to Outrage, but with the aid of a Pursuiter for the very specific counters it has.
Teammates and Counters:
  • Bronzor and other steals can take hits quite easily.
  • Rock-types in particular shouldn't be threatened, unless they are weak to Rock Slide or U-turn.
  • Stealth Rock makes it hard to abuse U-turn
  • Diglett can easily deal with most Rock-types. Otherwise any Ground-type likes to set up on them.
  • Magnemite traps and KO most Steel-types in the tier.
  • Washibon makes a good lure for Steel and Rock-types, meaning that with Magnemite, it makes a great combo to allow another Pokemon to sweep.
[SET]
name: Bulk Up
move 1: Bulk Up
move 2: Return
move 3: Pluck
move 4: Substitute
item: Berry Juice
ability: Keen Eye
nature: Jolly
evs: 36 HP / 12 Atk / 36 Def / 196 SpD / 196 Spe

Set Description:
  • Switch into a weak physical attacker, and set up Bulk Ups.
  • Return is your sweeping move to avoid recoil from Brave Bird, while Pluck hits Ghosts and steals any useful Berries, such as Salac or Liechi.
  • Substitute blocks status.
Additional Comments:
  • Can use a Salac Berry set, but it's kind of weak to priority.
Teammates and Counters:
  • Bronzor and other steals can take hits quite easily.
  • Rock-types in particular shouldn't be threatened, unless they are weak to Rock Slide or U-turn.
  • Stealth Rock makes it hard to abuse U-turn.
[Team Options]

  • Diglett can easily deal with most Rock-types. Otherwise any Ground-type likes to set up on them.
  • Magnemite traps and KO most Steel-types in the tier.
  • Washibon makes a good lure for Steel and Rock-types, meaning that with Magnemite, it makes a great combo to allow another Pokemon to sweep.
[Optional Changes]

  • A Life Orb + 4 Attacks set could be decent, but Washibon doesn't exactly have the coverage, Speed, or power to pull it off.
  • Similarly, a Choice Band set could be destructive, but Washibon is too easy to wall and set up on.
  • A mixed set with Air Slash and Hidden Power Fire could be useful to get passed some of Washibon's counters, but it's horrible Special Attack stops it from being effective.
[Counters]
  • Bronzor and other steals can take hits quite easily.
  • Rock-types in particular shouldn't be threatened, unless they are weak to Rock Slide or U-turn.
  • Stealth Rock makes it hard to abuse U-turn.

[Dream World]
  • Hustle turns Washibon from a threat to a major threat. Pokemon that resist Washibon's attacks won't be good enough, they'll need an excellent defensive stat.

Is Encourage Washibon's only ability or something? The Bulk Up set has no use for it at all if this isn't the case. Maybe a LO set with more moves to take advantage of Encourage?

I'll make it's ability Keen Eye, I guess. Both suck.

It's too slow for a plain LO set, and not powerful enough. And what moves does it have for Encourage? Crush Claw? Rock Slide? Those suck, tbh.

Washibon can't use Brave Bird, since it is a male-only species and Brave Bird is a level-up move. The only way it can breed is with a Ditto.

you mention magneton multiple times. set looks usable, might want to mention speed tiers somewere, what it can outspeed with adamant vs jolly, ect.

Hustle scarfers are very usable, this looks like a. a fun and b. a strong mon.

Maybe Rock smash is usable for the rock and steel type that plagues you so much, as it gets the boost from encourage.

I was debating it but it's almost 100% better off U-turning, especially since the most defensive steel in question is neutral to bug.

The male of the species passes down level up moves, so that means that Washibon can have Brave Bird despite not having any females in the species.

No, the Male passes down Egg and TM moves. In order for a Baby to know a later level-up move, both parents have to know it.

If the baby can learn the level-up move that the male knows, it will inherit it. Brave Bird is usable.

Change Washibon to Ruffled in the analysis too.

Berry Juice doesn't exist, and neither does Salac Berry or Liechi Berry.
