For Gen 1, it's definitely Lance for me. Not the Gen 2 Lance, though.
If you were a kid when you played Red or Blue, it was an entirely different experience. It was like the game itself had a whole mythos around it, for me. There was never a shortage of things to explore and consider, even though an impartial look at the original versions now would reveal them to be, if not merely "above average," at least not as gloriously terrific as they seemed then. Everything about them was like a shining romance, like how people describe hearing the Odyssey for the for time, in centuries past. I remember hearing about these super-beings called the Elite Four one day like a month after the games came out in the US, when driving over a bridge to go to a zoo in NOLA. The thought percolated in my mind as I walked around the zoo--trainers, stronger than gym leaders!--and the idea built and built until, no matter whether the real NPCs were able to stand up to their legend, in my mind they had become permanent entities. Lance was the epitome of that. He used a Pokemon type that AFAIK, short of fishing in the Safari Zone for hours before even beating the game, you would not have encountered at all at that point. He was that penultimate superpower, easily forgotten for having been secondary to the REAL champion. He had no supplementary text like some gym leaders had. He just said his lines, did his business, then never spoke or was referenced again in the game (as far as I remember; but if I'm wrong, then I still never heard such Lance-related lines, and thus the myth I established around him existed as it did). I'm sure this was part of the trick Gamefreak intended with him. Probably everybody knew Lance and admired his sheer awesomeness, but he was littled talked of in the circles I visited, because he wasn't "the" great trainer of the game. I could talk all day about Gen 1's Lance though, so I think I'll stop with the essentials.

The first time I fought Miror B in XD (I had played Colosseum and knew who he was) I sat there without doing anything for like 10 minutes because of how badass the music was.

You mean the one that stole the Power Plant part, was waiting for you around Cerulean City, and sought to re-create Team Rocket, and now lives with his family in Icirrus City?

From RBY, it's hard for me to really remember which ones I thought were the most epic, I always thought the final fight with Gary was pretty epic, Lance was cool, but I think it was the long trek through that hall just before him that built me up for that fight. My favorite of all time would have to be Cynthia. She definitely wasn't the most difficult trainer ever (although in B/W, she can be a severe pain), but I always loved her, the battle music, even the music leading up to it. She was elegant, and seemed to have a great mind for the Pokemon world. I always looked up to her and wanted to be like her, like a little sister or something. I also enjoyed Elesa a lot (as can be told by my avatar). She seemed like a close substitute for Cynthia, in my opinion, and it was neat how all the gym leaders came back to help you out at the end there in B/W.

I'm 25... I don't think I can stop playing or enjoying Pokemon, especially the old movies. You always need something to make you feel younger! It makes you feel so much at ease with things.

In Gen 1, there was this juggler. I'm not 100% sure where he was, think it was kogas gym though. When you beat him, his on defeat response was "Dropped My Balls" That was always hilarious.
In Gen 3, there was a hiker near the weather inistitiute that would yell "Hohoho, I like kid trainers, lets have a good one!" that was creepy, yet funny because i'm sure that what it sounded like was not what nintendo intended. On the other hand, in gen 4, a man in the resort zone gives you his 2 "Nuggets" of Wisdom, which sounds innocent enough. However, in japan, Nuggets are called "Golden Ball" which is sometimes used as slang meaning testicles. meaning that in japan, the guy handing you his 2 "golden balls" was a whole lot creepier. |

Blue is a personal favorite because he is what a rival should be;an as**ole, meets you several times in your journey, and in the end becomes the champion and you have an epic battle to decide who of you two,the childhood friends and rivals, shall be the ultimate trainer.

Silver is my favorite NPC. he was more than a rival, he was an enemy (at first). he was just plain badass. always pushing you around and trying to prove his strength (though I beat him pretty easily every time, except for that annoying Bayleef when you first fight it), abusing his pokemon and terrifying other NPCs along the way.
But then he starts to develop more as a person and trainer after being defeated by Lance. by the time you fight in your final battle with him, he's grown to the point where he loves his pokemon and overcome his hatred for the weak. plus, in the Celebi event, you get to go back in time and see how his harsh personality stemmed from being abandoned by his father. Silver is my favorite because in the end, he grew past that. Imagine if Silver and N met up. They are both sons of the leaders of villainous organizations, with Silver rejecting his father and N being brainwashed by his. They also (initially) had opposing views regarding Pokemon, but both of them grew to be better people in the end. but I also have to say that creepy old guy in front of the Celadon City gym is hilarious. "This gym is great! It's filled with women!" oh god.

REALLY? Nobody has said the NPC marowak that you face in RBY? That tale is so touching how the marowak died just to save her child.......... I also like the youngster that owns an ekans and rattata on route 3 in RBY....I mean, a little kid like him can get a freaking snake that's 11 feet long and can swallow him whole?! Now that takes skill.
And the nerds are always funny. Nuff said.

I say it is tied between Cyrus and Giovanni. The Villians are what makes the story line. Both are the toughest and strongest in there own respects.
