VGC Tiers

Hello all. From reading the title, and the name of the user that posted this, one could assume it would be a pretty instant locked thread. Yet this is not QUITE as crazy as it sounds. I propose that VGC have tiers similar to those of the Single battles. These tiers would exist solely to show what is popular and what is viable, teams would in no way would be restricted or freed by them if they were to be created. Tier movement would be nowhere near as important as it is in Singles, it would just reflect switches of popularity. For example, many common Goodstuff Pokemon such as Zapdos and Hitmontop would exist in the OU tier. There would be no Ubers or Little Cup. I think it would be OU, UU, RU, and NU. NU just being anything that isn't banned or in another tier. If this idea was to be accepted, the VGC community could work on drafting the initial tier list.

There's really no need for this to happen. Smogon's tiers are based on usage, and there are metagames formed by them. You can get VGC usage statistics (I think they used to be posted in the VGC Subforum), and make your own tiers, but there's no need at all for us to be making this list. Tiering won't affect the VGC metagame at all, because our rules come right from TPCi. We don't need to have VGC UU to split up a playerbase for a superficial metagame. It might be fun for a few matches, but frankly there's no purpose or reason for it at all.

Thanks for your interest, but there's no reason to go through all the effort of tiering when it won't matter at all anyway.
