Hail to the King, Baby ![]() Yo Smogonites, and welcome to my newest RMT, this time for the BW2 metagame. As you may have guessed from my poorly shop'd picture, the team is based around Kingdra, and Duke Nukem is my theme for the RMT. When I saw all the new toys that weather teams, notably rain, were getting, Kingdra immediately came to my mind as a powerful anti-metagame Pokemon to base a team around. While I was thinking of the title for the RMT, Kingdra's name reminded me of Duke's "hail to the king" line, which gave me the inspiration to base the RMT on him. Unfortunately, Duke Nukem Forever was pretty bad, but Duke is still the awesome, over-the-top character he always was, with plenty of great quotes, which I'll be sharing with you throughout the RMT. This is an offensive team, the goal of which is to facilitate a Kingdra sweep with an offensive core of Mamoswine and Magneton, while having a tanky FWG core to fall back on. The team has done decently, but it has it's flaws, which you'll hopefully be able to help me with. At A Glance ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Teambuilding

In Depth ![]() "I'll rip off your head and shit down your neck." Mamoswine @ Life Orb Trait: Thick Fat EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature - Ice Shard - Earthquake - Superpower - Icicle Crash Description: I love Mamoswine in this meta. It's got a great attack stat, powerful STABs and priority. It checks so many threats, it's crazy. The moves are standard fare for Mamoswine, with the exception of Superpower, which I use to hit Blissey/Chansey and certain Steels harder. Life Orb is an obvious choice for an offensive mon. Quote: Duke isn't fucking playing around, and neither is Mamoswine. Whether or not it would actually shit down your neck is debatable, but when Mamoswine is around, something is getting decapitated. ![]() "I've got balls of steel." Magneton @ Choice Scarf Trait: Magnet Pull EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature - Thunderbolt - Flash Cannon - Hidden Power [Fire] - Volt Switch Description: Magneton is a great utility mon, and it's skills are very appreciated on this team, as without it, I would be walled pretty hard by Steels. It certainly has it's flaws, but it's served me well. Choice Scarf patches up it's shaky speed, letting it outspeed most unboosted, and some boosted, threats. The moveset is fairly self explanatory: STABs, HP Fire for Steels, and Volt Switch for momentum. Quote: Yeah... ![]() "It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... and I'm all out of gum." Duke (Kingdra) @ Lum Berry Trait: Swift Swim EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 172 Spd Adamant Nature - Dragon Dance - Rain Dance - Waterfall - Outrage Description: Kingdra is one of my favorite Pokemon, so it's good to see that it's effective in this meta. It's good against all the weathers and great against Rain, which I've found to be very useful. I decided to go with a non standard Double Dance set for it's versatility, as its' able to sweep in all kinds of weather, and offensive and stall teams alike. It's walled by steels a little worse than rain dance sets, and it doesn't have the bulk of ChestoRest, but I've found that it's versatility more than makes up for that. I chose Lum Berry over a Life Orb to give it an easier time setting up against defensive teams, and to beat any emergency physical checks like Sableye. Quote: Probably his most famous quote, so I figured it was fitting to use this one for the star of the team. ![]() "I ain't afraid of no quake." Heatran @ Air Balloon Trait: Flash Fire EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Modest Nature - Fire Blast - Earth Power - Hidden Power [Rock] - Stealth Rock Description: Heatran is probably my most disposable member, but I needed a Sun check, so here he is. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the most amazing synergy with the team, sharing a 4x weakness to ground with Magneton. That's the main reason I went with Air Balloon over something like Choice Specs. I decided to use HP Rock over Ice or Grass since I can already hit pretty much anything they would, and I wanted a better check to Volcarona. Even though I don't really like Heatran on the team, I'm not sure what I would switch it for. ScarfApe maybe? Quote: Get it? Air Balloon? I'm so clever. ![]() "What are you? Some bottom-feeding, scum-sucking, algae eater?" Amoonguss @ Leftovers Trait: Regenerator EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SDef Calm Nature - Spore - Giga Drain - Hidden Power [Ice] - Clear Smog Description: I can't depend on just Kingdra to check all the rain threats, which is why Amoonguss is here. With good bulk and a useful typing, it can take on most new rain threats, and with Regenerator, it's very difficult to take down without super effective moves. Another nice perk i it's ability to absorb Toxic Spikes, which helps against stall. Spore is the obvious support move, while Giga Drain and HP Ice provide coverage against Dragon and water types. Clear Smog is also useful for giving enemy sweepers trouble. Quote: This is exactly what Duke would say if he saw an Amoonguss. ![]() "Hm... I don't have time to play with myself." Slowbro @ Leftovers Trait: Regenerator EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk Bold Nature - Scald - Psychic - Ice Beam - Slack Off Description: He's derpy, but he's also a useful pivot and has great synergy with Amoonguss due to Regenerator. His typing and coverage moves make him a good check to man physical threats, such as Conkeldurr and Dragonite. Slack Off is good in case I'm in a situation where Regenerator won't cut it. Quote: Pure stupidity, just like Slowbro. Thanks for reading! Here's the importable if you want to test/steal the team.

I'm too lazy to change everything, so if it says Magnezone, it's actually Magneton.

Nice team. Honestly, I see no reason not to use Scarf Magneton over Magnezone. It has 10 higher base speed, which lets it outrun things like +1 Adamant Dragonite/Gyarados, Starmie, and Tornadus-T. The small power drop is worth being able to check those Pokemon imo.

I would give Mamoswine a Life Orb, since you will just get set up on when you're locked into a move. It's really not worth it and with the way your team is built, you struggle when your opponent gets a free turn against you.
In addition Clear Smog on amoongus is kind of meh, because you're going to be bringing it in often due to the make up of your team and you probably won't get an opportunity to use it. I would definitely replace it with stun spore. Lastly, Thundurus is a huge problem to your team if you're using Slowbro/Amoongus. Mamoswine might be able to revenge it but he can just pick apart your team every time he switches in. If you replace heatran with SUB CM Latias your team handles it better and Latias does great against sun teams as well. With Latias and Slowbro you have to definitely watch out for Scizor/Volcarona. So adding a different bulky water like Suicune won't hurt to deal with them. Scald / Ice Beam / Roar / Rest or something along those lines. Hope I helped!

@Bribery: Never thought of Magneton, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the feedback in the Mamoswine discussion too.
@Chimpakt: Getting set up on is an issue with Mamoswine, I'll test LO. I've found Clear Smog useful on Amoonguss, but I'm using a few slowish mons, and I've found that I have trouble doing anything with the switches Amoonguss forces for fear of overpredicting. It seems better the more I think about it. Thundurus is a big threat, but I'm generally able to play around it due to it's SR weakness, and it has a hard time switching in due to all the Ice moves I have. I've considered Latias already, and I don't really like the holes it opens up, which I don't think Suicune or another bulky water would fix very well. I'll still test it out, though. Also, the threat list is done. |

Sweet team, and I agree with Bribery. Either Scarf Magneton for speed or Specs Zone for bulk/power. The latter can 2HKO Ferro in Rain-- the physicals definitely, the specials I believe as well. If you're looking for an excellent Dragon and Gliscor Slayer, Scarf Mamo is way underrated.
Mamoseine@Scarf Jolly, Snow Cloak, appropriate EVs -EQ -Icicle Spear -Superpower -Ice Shard/Stone Edge Spear busts multiscale and sub Gliscor, EQ kills Nintales usually in a go, superpower nails Tyranitar, shard for Mence, or SE for coverage. It beats Gengar, which is nice. Again a very sweet team-- feel free to accept mamoscarf as your lord and savior, or not :) but best of luck no matter what. |

Scarf on Mamoswine seems pretty redundant considering Ice Shard. I'll test Specs Zone out, but it'll probably be with ScarfTran instead. Thanks for the rate.

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you about abut a million times for making a near flawless team. I switched out the magnezone for a magneton and would win 20 battles at a time before coming even close to losing. I love it, and i swapped out the kingdra for an azumarill and it improved my weakness to specific volcarona and machamp sets. Ive won 67 battles and only lost 4 on PO, (only cuz PS is down though)

In the threatlist you say that Tornadus-T is handled the same way as Thundurus-t is, and i ask you, how is this even true, when you say that Amoonguus can take a hit if the need arises?
Everytime Tonradus-T comes in he is guaranteed a kill. Hurricane ohkoes Kingdra, Amoonguss and Mamoswine after SR and 2 Hurricanes or Hurricane + Superpower 2hko anything else. Thankfully Tornadus-T can get free switches only against Amoonguss (after Sleep Clause) and maybe against Heatran that uses Fire Blast in rain or EP, and against Mamo locked into EQ, so this means that he doesn't have many switch-in opportunities, but when it does get in, something is going to die... For this reason definitely run Scarf Magneton instead of Scarf Magnezone, which can actually revenge kill Tonrauds-T if the need arises, or even tank a Hurricane and ko the next turn, or just gain momentum with Volt-Switch. SubCM Jirachi also seems like a huge threat for your team, as your offensive mons can't 2hko him (Mamo can, but he dies from a +1 Water Pulse and Kingdra only 3hkoes with Waterfall while getting 2hkoed back after SR) and your defensive mons can be set-up on by him (Scald doesn't break Jirachi's sub at +1, in rain).

Finally got the team updated. Magneton replaced Magnezone, and Mamoswine got Life Orb over Choice band.
@Oligopoly Cool to see you like the team and have had success with it! Could you explain the choice of Azumarill over Kingdra a little more though? It seems a little weird for this team. @alexwolf Yeah, I messed the calc for Hurricane vs Amoonguss up. Tornadus-T is a pretty big threat, but I have Magneton now, so its' not as big of a deal. Jirachi is very annoying too. Maybe I'll have to try out Latias again.
