Default Monogen

You've gotten to the top of the OU ladder. You've become an uber player at Ubers. All of your UU team is now OU from overuse. You've managed to climb your way to the top of RU. You used your favorites in NU. You have 17 Monotype teams. You are now one of the 2 players still playing DWOU.

So what's left?

Monogen. What is Monogen? It's exactly what it says on the tin. Choose one Gen, and make a team using only Pokemon in said gen. It's a bit of a fringe meta, but it can be really fun.

Can we expand on this discussion a little bit? Monogen is a fun meta...

Gen 1: Like you said, is great for the sun. Ninetales along with a vast selection of sweepers (mainly Venusaur, but you can use Victreebell, Charizard, Arcanine) synergize quite well.

Along with this, it has rapid spin needed to support the fire type SR weakness (so many to list...most notably Starmie, but also Blastoise, Tentacruel, Cloyster, even Kabutops who could also counter abuse Gen 2 rain with swift swim).

Gen 1 also has the best ghost type Gengar...especially notable when compared to other gens...Dugtrio goes well on sun teams...Gen 1 definitely makes a solid sun team.

Gen 2: In reality, Gen 2 has two options: rain or sand. The amount of support options is huge, lots of hazard setters, rapid spin, magic bounce, it only seems to be lacking a ghost type. Misdreavus is the only ghost type of the gen. Misdreavus isn't that bad, but it gets worn down easily without leftovers or recovery besides rest or pain split.

Rain can mitigate the fire weakness that you mentioned, whereas sand can provide even more residual damage on top of hazards set by Skarmory, or Qwilfish, or Forretress. However, unlike Gen 1, no sweepers really take great advantage over the weather, with the most obvious being Kingdra not being able to use Swift Swim with Politoed.

Gen 3: Gen 3 is one of the two gens without access to perma weather. This isn't bad, however, as it has big threats that don't need weather support, such as Salamence and Breloom, and with a hazard setter like Deoxys-D, a HO team seems like it would be viable.

The rapid spinners suck in Gen 3 (Claydol, Armaldo, lol Spinda, Torkoal), so this contributes more to a more offensive playstyle in this generation. Jirachi, Metagross, Milotic and Sableye can play defensive, among others, but I think these stall teams are outclassed by Gen 2 because of weather and better spinners. Gen 3 does have a marginably better spinblocker in Dusclops, but not really.

Gen 4: Gen 4 has the exclusive hail starter, as well as Hippowdon for sand. Of the two, hail is not viable despite good ice types to boot with Froslass and Mamoswine, because Gen 4 has no rapid spinners or magic bouncers. So any hazards will stay there.

Therefore, Gen 4 should probably be running either sand or weatherless. Sand in Gen 4 has the advantage of Gliscor, Gastrodon, and Heatran, the latter two who deal with other weather very well, and Gliscor who functions in sand well. Just remember that entry hazards can be a problem.

Weatherless is a good option too, and with the lack of rapid spin should lean offensive. Good options here include Honchkrow, Infernape, Rotom-W, Lucario, Roserade, Magnezone, among others.

Gen 5: Gen 5, like 3 has no weather, but as mentioned above is great for offensive teams. The threats mentioned above are very relevant and will probably be on most Gen 5 teams, as will the Theiran and their Incarnate forms (although not so much the weather reliant ones). Haxorus, Darmanitan, Victini, and Ferrothorn, are other notables. However, use of Volcorona can be difficult when forced to use Cryogonal for spinning (although I prefer Cryogonal to Claydol..)

As many talk about a power curve/shift or whatever that's called when games add more and more powerful things that make many old things irrelevant (like Execcutor, once OU for his "reliable sleep" now outclassed in this regard by many future gen pokemon), Gen 5 certainly shows that this can be true with the sheer power available.

The power creep isn't as big as most people say it is, honestly. There are just more legendaries, and the old ones are being phased out (lol4xstealthrocks) for various reasons that are pretty much completely unrelated. GF also tries to combat the power creep by giving old Pokemon cool abilities (Ninetales and Politoed have never been OU before).
