Default Official Smogon University Simulator Statistics — October 2012
Happy Nov. 1!

Lots of changes this past month: Garchomp was released back into OU, Ubers and RU are doing in-tier suspect tests, and my usage stats now contain teammate data (checks and counters are coming--if you want to help move that along, read through and contribute to this thread).

So let's get down to it! Remember that the tiers aren't scheduled to update again until January 1.

Interesting stat!
I see that Genesect is finally the most used pokemon in ou, and it doesnt surprise me. However there are still things that i cant understand like Landorus being so low, I see that sheer force set everywhere on the ladder, but the same is for Thundurus or Tornadus, i expected them to be higher since Politoed is still that high. It seems like all the Rain abusers are too much low (keldeo for example >.>). Another thing that i noticed is that some Pokemon like Cloyster or Alakazam are so used, but frankly i dont think that they deserves to be that high.
Also, Gliscor #9 surprised me. With Landorus-t and Landorus-n in ou i dont see so many reason to use it other than Poison heal..

Are my eyes deceiving me? Cresselia at number 62 in RU?

I thought she was banned into BL2.

by the way what's the difference between percentage and real percentage?

Scollipede at number 59 in RU has less then 3.4% usage is you use use the percentage measurement but over 3.4% if you use the real percentage measurement.

So I'm confusing at the possibility of Scollipede falling into NU, I'd love to see it fall though, a offensive spikes user not Cacturne.

One of the worst and easiest to revenge kill one trick ponies in the tier makes it into top 20 range? Ho- how, I don't even... Anything with priority absolutely destroys it and it's probably the single most predictable mon in the tier.

This thing on the other hand is fanfuckingtastic and I have no idea how it isn't top 20 while garbage like Cloyster make it in. Sheer Force special attacker gives this already brilliant mon with lots of variety even more power and effectiveness and its typing means it doesn't give a single fuck about hazards ruining his day. Just a brilliant mon overall, use it everyone!

It's great to see a great Pokemon rising in usage (Now I know he in a lower place, but his percentage is higher than it once was)

Weel Genesect is no suprise honestly the king of OU always seems to be a metal bug :(

I am shocked at why Abra is number 2 in Little Cup! It is a good pokemon but still that usage its much higher then it shoudl be. My Boys Tirtouga and Riolu are quite low sitting at 42 (Riolu) and 44 (Tirtouga) But i kind of like it that way means there not whore pokemon ;)

Interesting stats as always, namely seeing the correlation between the number of offensive 'mons in the top usage and how offensive the metagame is. The main thing to comment on is Genesect being #1, mainly for how easy it is to fit on any team.

Overruling Politoed as the king of OU really shows just how good Genesect is in this metagame, replacing the most common weather inducer as the #1 mon.

I'm also quite surprised at the Gengar and Alakazam usage. Alakazam was pretty high last month aswell, just showing that it is getting some recognition in OU. Gengar usage would explain a lot, mainly offensive teams needing a good offensive spinblocker and Gengar is by far the best in OU. Alakazam is also great for offensive teams being immune to hazards lessening the need for a spinner and taking advantage of hazards to sweep late game.

Another thing to point out is the relatively low usage of the "broken" weather abusers.

When you see the Politoed has more than double the usage of all of these, it might say something about Rain. Maybe there is more to Rain than just offense, as common walls under Rain such as Dragonite, Ferrothorn and Tentacruel all have a lot more usage than these weather abusers. This might imply a more defensive playstyle is coming around, Genesect and the new therians etc have been out for a couple months and maybe people are starting to find new ways to get around them.

I'm also interested in what is going to happen in the next few months, mainly looking at the Garchomp usage in relation to the other Dragons in OU. It's right in between Dragonite and Salamence right now so people are definitely finding a use for it over these other Dragons.

It's interesting to see that weatherless is dominating every metagame but ubers, no doubt because of Kyogre (and Groudon) dominating that metagame in usage as well.

It seems NU has really boomed with 5th gen pokemon as well.

Genesect at #1 doesn't surprise me at all. What does is that Abomasnow fell out of OU to be replaced by... Ninjask. I HAVE seen a bunch more of those, but seriously, what the hell? It gets stopped before it can Baton Pass by most of OU.

You're kidding right?
Cloyster is definitely not a one-trick pony because it can both sweep and rapid spin while scaring the hell out of any potential spinblocker and it happens to be an Ice Shard user that can actually switch on Garchomp.
People like you, who think Cloyster can only be played as Shell Smash sweeper, are the exact reason why it can be used as rapid spinner and revenge killer as well.
