Feel free to slash in Dragon Tail and Fire Blast, two other good moves that I neglected to mention. The last moveslot is really up to whatever move suits the team best. And don't hate on Protect, Genesect never sees it coming. The smart ones U-Turn expecting a switch, the dumb ones Ice Beam expecting you to be as bad as they are. Either way, they're in for a beating. Protect is good on almost anything, I don't see why Chomp should be any exception.

Protect is good
It's not like Garchomp is strapped for moveslots, (Aqua Tail will rarely see use) and like Lavos pointed out, you get to check mate Genesect (and scout what other choice users will use like Keldeo or Latios). Do, it really wants leftovers if Protect is being used, free healing incredible.

Protect is good when it's not being used at the expense of better moves. It's perfectly usable, yes, but there are probably 4 or 5 more useful moves in that slot.

QC Approved 2/3 yeah you need to change the nature on the support set, but i wouldn't remove protect immediately. stay tuned on that one...

I guess that along with an Impish nature, there should also be another EV spread on the Support set? Simply changing the nature just seems extremely inefficient to me.. I did some quick calcs and a spread of 176 HP / 240 Def / 92 Spe Impish cuts its power by around a third, but increases its physical bulk by almost 40%.
It still KOes things like Scizor, Genesect and Terrakion but even in Rain, Aqua Tail hardly achieve a 2HKO on Gliscor any longer.

Go 280 for Adamant Luke, Timid Heatran, +Smeargle, Jolly Breloom, etc. EVs 101.. Any defensive set Maxes HP first. Jolly nature is best here, because speed is a higher base stat than defense on Garchomp. Your current spread is 401 HP / 314 Def / 263 Speed. Change the EVs to 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 Spe, Jolly. Now you have 420 HP / 275 Def / 280 Speed.. Probably take physical hits much the same, special hits better.. and outspeed a few more things.

Hmm.. I agree that this spread looks much better than the current one. Although it doesn't change anything against most Pokemon using Outrage, Draco Meteor, or Ice Beam, this spread allows to 100% survive HP Ice from Scarf Heatran (the other has a mere 18.75% chance to OHKO). If QC is fine with it, I'd like to take over this spread.

Double post to let you know that this is finally written. Man was more work than I thought in first place, mainly because I had to remove any Genesect mentions =_="
Just one more thing: Since QC condoned the EV change, I just implemented it. Thanks.

Migh be worth mentioning that Garchomp DOESN'T OHKO all the weather starters; Hippowdon and physically defensive Politoed can stomach a few hits, but may barely make it out alive from a 2HKO.

I actually didn't take these two into account as from what I've experienced, they're seen very rarely. I just forgot to mention "common" within the text though, I admit.. However, once Pkmn0078 is done with his am check, I'll edit them into the text, just to make things clearer.

Where is Stone Edge on the third slash of Choice Scarf Garchomp? As a matter of fact I think it should be the first slash. Having Stone Edge is extremely helpful for killing +1 Volcarona, Thunderus-T, and Tornadus-T without using Outrage (one of the main reasons to use scarf chomps is to outspeed scarf Landorus and thundy-t). It would also be useful for Gyarados, but he has really fell off the map as of late. also you should talk about what exactly Garchomp revenges with choice scarf, especially with its selected coverage.

deleted my previous post to make this more visible. am check:
diff
c/p
fun diff app Your prose was kind of, idk, off throughout. Also, you included partners to deal with threats to Garchomp in C&C. It's supposed to be about how to beat Garchomp, not about how you can beat threats to Garchomp. That's what AC is for. There was also a ton of fluff and things that didn't really make sense. Keep that in mind for next time. EDIT: seconding ThePillsburyDoughBoy's suggestion, except that it should be Rock Slide. Rock Slide accomplishes the same KOs on those Pokemon but has much better accuracy. Garchomp is AMAZING to revenge kill +1 Volcarona. Choice Scarf Thundurus-T and standard Tornadus-T are also great Pokemon to be able to revenge kill. Garchomp is especially good at revenge killing the former because of its immunity to Thunder / Thunderbolt and Volt Switch. EDIT2: oh and I removed Rough Skin because it's the only legal ability. You might want to keep it to emphasize that Sand Veil is illegal, but you already mention that in the overview, which everyone reads when they read an analysis.

Husky i think that you should expand the AC paragraphs a bit as they are somewhat lacking in content. For example i saw nowhere any mention of Ferrothorn as a partner, which not only takes on easily most Pokemon that try to revenge kill Garchomp, such as Starmie with Ice Beam, Mamoswine, Lati@s, Choice Scarf Jirachi, etc, but can setup both Spikes and SR to aid Garchomp in either sweeping or wallbreaking. Bronzong is another very good defensive partner to consider as it can check most faster Pokemon that threaten Garchomp and sets up SR.
Another example of a paragrpah lacking in content is the second part of the AC of the SubSD set which is only three lines long and says nothing about defensive teammates, or even offensive teammates that have same counters and can take some of the attacks that Garchomps detests. In general i would advice you to try and be a little more specific, as you should be in the AC parts.

Choice Scarf:
Fire Blast > Fire Fang. It hits everything you would use it on harder because of base power and lower SpDef on your targets. Yes, it is better even with a -SpA nature. You can do the calcs if you want. Fire Blast will 2HKO Skarmory and while it sucks being stuck on either one you want max output damage. Dual Chop / Stone Edge > Dragon Claw. Dual Chop does Dragon Claw but better. Why? Garchomp's speed with Scarf let's it break Substitutes. Good against annoying jerkoffs like Gengar. Stone Edge deserves a slash for Volcarona. Yes, Volc is that big of a deal.

My deepest apologies that I had that less time to implement the GP check yet. Christmas preparations, work etc hold me busier than I expected in first place..
I'd like to ask sirndpt for re-checking this as I made a couple of changes out of the line, while working on your GP check. Please tell me, if there's something you're not fine with. I also will rewrite the Checks and Counters section entirely new so please refrain from it for now. I'll input the new version the upcoming days. Thanks for all your patience and -once again- sorry for the delay and trouble I might caused of that.

I'd like to echo RL in saying that Fire Fang on ScarfChomp doesn't make much sense when Fire Blast hits nearly everything that it needs to hit (namely Skarmory and Ferrothorn) harder.

Sorry, but i've got a few last minute suggestions I want to push through QC.
Stone Edge is a great move on Garchomp because it lets you decimate Volcorona, and OHKO Tornadus-T / Thundurus-T without resorting to Outrage. Stone Edge is a stronger option than Aqua Tail on the Choice Scarf set, since I find that Aqua Tail really shines on the CB set and only if the rain is up. I agree with RL on Dual Chop VS Dragon Claw. Dual Chop is a better choice than Dragon Claw because of Dual Chop's ability the damage substitute users and the fact Scarf Garchomp is rarely using Dragon Claw anyway (from my experience anyway) so the accuracy drop isn't too troubling. On the Fire Fang vs Fire Blast issue, I can agree with the fact that Fire Blast is slightly better, but i'm starting to doubt the effectiveness of running a Fire-type move on the Choice Scarf set. I don't know why we're mentioning Fire Blast's ability to 2HKO Skarmory, it's never going to happen against a half-decent player (there's a good chance they'll use that opportunity to set up on Choice locked Garchomp). It's only use over Fire Fang is getting %20~ more damage on Skarmory that switch in. This is how the Choice Scarf should look like imo: name: Choice Scarf move 1: Outrage move 2: Earthquake move 3: Stone Edge / Aqua Tail / Fire Blast move 4: Dual Chop / Dragon Claw The 1st, 2nd and 4th slot are non negotiable. Choice Scarf Garchomp should always have a secondary Dragon STAB move. The 3rd slot combines all 3 coverage moves, and orders them in importance. I know its kind of a last minute thing Husky, but it would be great if you could incorporate these changes to your analysis. If you can't, QC can always edit the analyis via SCMS after it goes onsite.
