(OU) Dragon Ball Z

DRAGON BALL Z
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Rain Team
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the world of gaming, two worlds colide to make one awesome OU team. Pokemon such as Breloom learn the traits of Super Saiyans and Thunderous becomes a Dragon who can grant you any one of your wildest dreams by waking him.

Hello Smogon! I am one of those bad competative players that you just want out of your server. Before I made this team, my points on Pokemon Online were a rough 900. The night of making this team, I peaked at 1165! It was insaine for me because I usually stay around 1000 on a really really good day. So, why did I make a Dragon Ball team in the first place? Because, I made a new Anime Music Video the day before I started making the team! PS: I will make an AMV for you if youtube will allow the content/song! Just PM me! It takes me a while because I have little internet access... but I will work as hard as possible!

TEAM BUILDING PROCESS

After making my AMV, I wanted to make a rain team with Breloom on it. It is safe to say who my first two team members were. Breloom ment a good check to Tyranitar and Abomasnow and Politoed could hold his own against other weather leads.

After a brose of my box center in Pokemon Online, I found my Choice Scarfed Latios! He is weak to Dark types that Breloom could hit for double damage. Not only that, but Breloom and Latios formed my team's core. I now had a physical and special sweaper for my team! Even though one is really a revenge killer.

Every sweeper hates and loves entry hazards. On the opponent's side of the feild, they can secure many OHKOs and increase their sweeps to new depths. I needed something that would alwas give me at least 1 layer of something. Forretress was the best man for the job.

My team felt to weak on the defensive. I looked at it for a while and I thought that a tank would be good. I remember using Lapras beforefor a similar role, but he didn't help too much. I was browsing the OU teir page... and the word Hydration caught my eye. I was happy to see that it was next to Vaporeon.

Since my team had two walls and two sweapers, I thought that a power house of the rain would be essential! My first thoughts were Jirachi, but I had forgot... Thunderous Therain is OU unlike the incarnate form!

Forretress and Vaporeon were good to play with, but they weren't that reliable. D i a b l o pointed this out and I changed their placement.

Saibaman @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Hydro Pump
- Perish Song
There is no Rain Team in OU without this guy, unless it is the rare swift swimmers. Politoed can be a stalling lead or just a plain tank! Looking at his stats, he really has no speed or physical attack... options. With Choice Scarf, he can Outspeed some key unboosted threats, like salamance, and do serious damage with a coverage move.. Focus Blast and Ice Beam are to hit targets that are resistant to water, preferably for double damage or more. My Personal Opinion is that without Politoed, there would be no real weather wars. Sun would still be there, but Fire and Ground types would have serious advantage over sun, even with Venasaur. Politoed takes the weather banned to the Uber waste land to the world of Overused. A world filled with Dragonite, Keldeo, Ferrothorn, Lapras, Vaporeon, and so many more itching to get their shot to abuse the Rain. You won't expect to see this guy changing teirs for a long time folks.

Shenron @ Life Orb
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Agility
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast
In Dragon Ball, there are seven mystic balls that summon a mythical dragon called Shenron. Shenron can grant who ever gathers all three Dragon Balls, a one pure wish (with a few limitations). Well, Shenron grants your competative wishes by blowing the competition out of the water. With Life Orb, many of the common threats you will face are turned to dust. Thunder hitting Rotom-W for severe damage. Focus Blast sends Terrakion back to his pony days. Hidden Power Ice makes the greatest Gliscor wall into a thin peice of paper. To top it off, you can use Agility once every blue moon to start a deadly sweep.

Yajirobe @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
Yajirobe takes a serious beating from physical attackers and shows them a 'share-the-wealth" card from Iron Barbs. Yajirobe has many resistances and is a good mixed wall. Outside of the lack of reliable recovery, Yajirobe could be considered a powerful mixed wall in some scinarios. He is one of the most reliable entry hazard setter in OU.

Goku (M) @ Fighting Gem
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
Please give welcome to the star of the team. Goku has great STABS and spore to top it off, Swords Dance! Mach Punch gets rid of those close calls. Bullet Seed's usefulness has gone through the roof with the recent Genesect ban and Technician! When you look at Breloom, don't look at his defensive stats, or his speed, or his special attack. Don't tred on him He will destroy teams with ease. He was an amazing threat in DPPT and nothing has changed!

Vegeta @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Trick
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
Vegeta is the prince of all Saiyans (a superly powerful race that Goku was born from)! The planet that the Saiyans were from was his name-sake! He is not evil, just really power hungry and miss guided. Vegeta can be a nice guy if you peel back the layers, but in OU... Latios has no layers to peel. Vegeta makes an amazing revenge killer/wall breaker. Draco Meteor is a strong Dragon move to be using while wall breaking, but its not like I can't switch out. Vegeta has good coverage, great Speed outside of Choice Scarf, daunting Special Attack, and can pull a mean Surf in the rain.

Puar (Tentacruel) (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Rain Dish
252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Sludge Bomb
- Rapid Spin
- Protect
Puar is an awesome spiner/spiker. It heals from Saibaman's drizzle and from black sludge. No one would want to use trick on it, because they would be posioned! Protect increases the longevity of the pokemon and everything else is supposed to prep the feild for your other pokemon. Scald allows the opponent to get burned so your switches won't be as frequent and Sludge Bomb is supposed to wear the opponents down. Rapid Spin is neccesary because if you have too many entry hazards on your feild, that could cause the game.

Hi Dungeons,
first of all you change Politoed set with Choice Scarf and Surf over Psychic, Perish Song over Focus Blast and you change the spread with 252 satk and 252 spd because subcmrachi is a dangerous treath for you team.
Now Kingdra is an another dangerous treath so you change Ferrothorn over Forretress and for rapidspinning you change Tentacruel over Vaporeon.
good luck.

I am also going to test a few other things... but yeah I will change that!

Hello there,

A solid rain team you have. Hopefully with this rate, it'll become even better! First off, I believe Keldeo should be used over your Vaporeon. In my opinion, Vaporeon isn't one of the best Pokemon to use in such a fast, hard hitting metagame. Keldeo, however, when holding a Choice Scarf, can be excellent for revenge killing or cleaning up late game. Next, with Keldeo using a Choice Scarf, Latios does not require one, as Keldeo will be in the role of being a fast hard-hitter / revenge killer. Slapping on a pair of Choice Specs will be sufficient as well as a Timid Nature. Also, using Trick > Shadow Ball can help cripple a Latios counter as it switches in. Next, Politoed can be the standard bulky Toed set as Latios will be putting holes into the opposing team. A bulky Toed can be your mon to send out to take hits as needed. Lastly, changing Breloom to the standard Swords Dance Breloom as opposed to your Bulk Up Set. Making it more offensive allows it to hit harder. Also, the addition of Mach Punch gives it a nice priority move. With a Fighting Gem and Technician, it will doing a lot of damage to any unresisted switch-in.

Good luck!

You see... I am glad that you mentioned the Keldeo thing (my favorite pokemon ever!) YOu see... I actually changed vaporeon and forretress for tentacruel and ferrothorn, like mentioned above. I am play testing a standard Keldeo right now and it has adapted fine. I will probably use scarf on Latios. Latios has way more coverage, so he will stay scarfed. ChoiceSpecs Keldeo can break many walls with four coverage attacks. But thank you for your side of it. I am not to good with this game anyways XD. As for Bulky Toed... I have to say no. Scarf is way more convenient... and he can actually pull off a semi late game sweep.... for his low stats. He will stay how he is.... but I will still play test it!

Hi Dungeons,
Nice Team you have. I realized that you don't have a Stealth Rocker but you have a Spiker; you should change Leech Seed for Stealth Rock on Ferrothorn. Latios with Shadow Ball is useless, change with Trick.
Imo Hidden Power [Grass] > Surf/Hydro Pump (depends on your luck) on Politoed is better and you can try Encore > Perish Song; With encore can block various Set Upper without sacrificing. Sorry for my bad english :x

  • Surf / Hydro Pump ==> Hidden Power [Grass]
  • Perish Song ==> Encore

  • Shadow Ball ==> Trick

  • Leech Seed ==> Stealth Rock

Pretty cool team, I have a similar one myself. I think there are a lot of moveset changes you can make to improve the team, though. For one, Toxic Spikes are near useless in this metagame, as there are far too many floating Pokemon and Poison-types to make good use out of them. Even if the opponent's team is all grounded and lacks both a Poison-type or a spinner, you won't be doing nearly enough damage with Toxic Spikes because your team is offensive. I think the best option to take here would be either using Sludge Bomb to do a bit of damage to Celebi and Breloom that switch in with a STAB move, or Ice Beam to hit the same targets and to pack a bigger punch against Dragons. With that, your Tentacruel is good to go, and you shouldn't have much of a problem against heavy offense teams that rely on Gengar as a spinblocker.

Latios is supposed to be a revenge killer, and while you may think the extra punch provided by the Modest nature is helpful, I assure you that outpacing Modest Venusaur, Choice Scarf Terrakion, SubSalac Terrakion (after the boost), SubSalac Garchomp, and a boatload of other threats is much more useful. Definitely go with a Timid nature here on your main revenge killer. I would also use Trick over Shadow Ball because it really gives you very little extra coverage, and using Trick to cripple stall teams is pretty useful, and can allow you a setup opportunity. Just make sure that you don't let your Latios become Tyranitar fodder, as you don't have an immediate answer to Tyranitar, especially given your Breloom set. However, that's my next change.

Breloom really doesn't have the Speed to pull off an effective Bulk Up set anymore, and without Speed, it's simply a sitting duck against a lot of teams given how offensive the metagame is nowadays. Even with Special Defense investment, it will take a boatload from a lot of attacks, and Tornadus-T's presence isn't really a saving grace either. Go with Funkasaurus's suggestion of Swords Dance Breloom using a Life Orb, a spread of 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe, an Adamant nature, and a moveset of Swords Dance / Spore / Bullet Seed / Mach Punch. If you really want, you can fit Drain Punch over Spore, but Spore is generally more useful. Also remember to use Technician as the ability, as that's the reason Breloom shines.

You lack Stealth Rock, but there is an easy way to patch this up by simply using it over Spikes on Ferrothorn. Your Ferrothorn is your main defensive backbone, so I don't think it will get many opportunities to set up Spikes anyways, unless the opponent is carrying a defensive team. However, Stealth Rock is generally called the necessary hazard, and your team needs it especially to deal with threats such as Dragon Dance Dragonite and Quiver Dance Volcarona.

My last two suggestions are switching the natures on Politoed and Thundurus-T, actually. Thundurus-T should be boosting its Speed anyways, so I think you should give a Modest nature a shot. It would give you a bit more power behind your attacks, and that's always appreciated with that type of sweeper. On Politoed, you should test out Timid. That would allow you to beat Dragon Dance Dragonite at +1, and you wouldn't need to worry about Latios falling prey to an ExtremeSpeed. I don't have much else to say. Good luck, I hope I helped.

Thanks everyone! I have never been so high up the latter XD. Okay. I noticed that Poli did get outpaced by salamance at +1 once so that will be uber useful. If you all say that shadow ball isn't worth using, I will use trick. Blissey is a butt hole to me so locking her into wish would be nice. I don't think that changing surf would be a good idea because it has way better accuracy, but Grass coverage is nice. I will debate it. Its just that Hydro pump hits like a truck. I changed the Breloom set last night LOL. I was just too lazy/tired to change it here. I love toxic spikes against stall, but if it isn't really that useful, I guess it gots to go! THANKS EVERYSINGLE PERSON WHO WILL/HAVE POSTED IN THIS THREAD!!!

Edit: Testing Keldeo over Thunderous. Any suggestions on that would be appreciated!!
