I couldn't imagine them producing a sequel to PBR before the next, 3DS exclusive, generation of Pokemon is released. I mean, I loved PBR too. It was the only way to get randomwifi, and it did it's job well. But as soon as Gen V came out it was competitively useless.

I am going to laugh and laugh and laugh if they don't actually announce a main line anything

Or if it's just an announcement saying they're going to announce something later on

Actually, I was considering starting a thread on this, but I planned to use a little less all caps in the title...

Anyway, I think we're in for something big - as in a new main series game announcement - here. I think this because of the Anime.

Ash is currently (spoiler, spoiler) doing the Unova league. After that, an arc featuring N and Ghetsis is announced. After that, who knows? The Anime has featured every aspect of the games to date. They've visited every city in Unova, been to the PokéStar studies, participated in the Musicals, done the Battle Subway, all that faff.

Ever since the Orange Saga, they've ONLY based the Anime on the games (and as we all know, the Orange Saga was only made to pass time until the release of Gold/Silver). They've taken some liberties, like relocating the Battle Frontier to Kanto, but apart from that one time, no major arc has been based on 100% Anime-exclusive stuff. The games have been the basis ever since they did the Orange Saga. And now, they've ran out of current game stuff to base the Anime on. This should mean we're in for a new game (as it's extremely unlikely that they didn't plan this ahead).

New game usually means new form(e)s, but I'd say they've used up all the Gen. V Pokémon that could have them (Victini, Genesect and the three Swordsmen are the only 5th gen. legendaries without several formes). Likewise, GameFreak has never introduced new Pokémon mid-generation, nor have they ever gone over to a new console in the middle of a generation. This means a new game either would add nothing new, or break a ton of the unwritten rules. All of this screams "remake" to me, but it could also mean Gen. V is coming to an end already.

Though, if GameFreak were to follow any sort of pattern, a new generation isn't due until 2014 (or very late 2013, see the movies and release dates of previous games).

So yeah, my money's on a remake. Gen. I or III, I don't know. Probably III, if anything, because the people who grew up on Gen. I got their dose of nostalgia with FRLG. GameFreak have also catered to those whose first Pokémon games were Gold, Silver and/or Crystal. Perhaps the Ruby/Sapphire kids are in for a treat next.

The thing that gets me about doing a remake now (presumably (hopefully!) for the 3DS) is that I think that the team that usually handles those (HGSS, namely) was the one that did BW2. So the "main" team that handles the first outings of a generation working on a RSE remake seems a bit odd.

I'm pretty sure GF won't start a new generation with remakes, so my guess is we will have Gen VI next Summer.

Being one of those RSE kids, I would love a remake, but I'm not holding my breath. One of the main reasons that FRLG and HGSS exist is because it was nearly impossible to catch all of the Pokémon from those games in-game, at least in the Gameboy/DS games (thank god for Colo/XD). There seem to be too many Pokémon from RSE in BW2, and even some of the "exclusive" legendaries to RSE are now suddenly catchable (the Regis, Lati@s, etc.) But who knows, maybe they'll cater to the generation of kids like me after GSC.

Or, they'll just announce more information about the new Genesect movie or something.

Or maybe another Pikachu event where it gets Judgement, I dunno.

Actually I think between the three Sinnoh titles you could get the vast majority of Pokemon except for the starters and most of the previous gen legends. It was not like with gen 3 where pretty much an entire generation of Pokemon was unavailable.
So HGSS probably came about more because they already remade FRLG to a large success and they wanted more filler between gen 4 and 5

HGSS also served to make all 493 Pokemon available without having to use Pal Park, since it would be unusable on the then-current DSi. Don't want to have to force a discontinued product (DS Lite) to complete a Pokedex.

Actually, I think they will just announce a Pokémon Snap WiiU or something similar, why? There's not too much since Black/White 2 was released, so, the main series doesn't need to announce nothing new at least on 1 year, in other words, not news until the second half of 2013.

Then, they'll inform of a spin-off, and will continue the anime doing a spin-off season based on that spin-off, it can be a Pokémon Snap WiiU, or whatever new idea, or just a new anime-exclusive season for filling for a half year at least.

Also, I think it's impossible they will start the new generation with remakes, why? They never did that. Second: NINTENDO KNOWS that people check relative fast the game code, so, they know they can't release a whole new branch of Pokémon and leave them on top secret. Third: If they make a Main-Series think, then the anime needs of new material, and a remake of RBE just don't offers nothing new at all to use, and a spin-off season when they want to publish the remake will just not work as well. Fourth: The reason that told Zowayix, with HGSS you can have the 493 Pokémon without using Pal Park, so, a fast remake will just not help on anything.

So, there's just no reason to make a remake for the 3DS RIGHT NOW of RSE, unless they make it for the fifth generation for the DS, then it could be of something, but Nintendo is already pissed off with Gamefreak because they're not helping yet the 3DS sales for allow that. Now, I think they will make the remake for the sixth generation later, but I think they will not start a generation with a remake, also, I could hate the idea, that's just lame start new things with... old things? lololol.

BTW, I din't liked Pokémon Battle Revolution, I want a new Colosseum or Stadium, they had a lot of great things, but PBR din't bringed nothing apart to see your Pokémon on 3DS battling (with models almost identicals to the ones of Colosseum)... and the Wi-Fi, for just few years.

Edit: Well, it exist other possibility, and it's an announce of the Sixth Generation for the 3DS to be released on 1 year or 2, for pre-hype boost reasons like they did with Gold/Silver/Crystal.

What a bob-omb if Gen 6 gets announced guys...that would be freaking CRAZY!
Still, because of how BIG the announcement is suppose to be, I can't help but see a WiiU game incoming...something, HOPEFULLY IT'S STADIUM 3

For some reason, I always thought that Gen V would end with a remake of Pokemon Yellow, especially assuming that Gen V is confirmed to be the last generation. (Just my logic: Ending the series remaking the first game to its fullest potential)

I personally think that would be cool, but I hope more for remakes of Ruby and Sapphire. I had so much trouble since I was very new to the game and gen III

I think it will be an RSE remake- we're coming up on the 10year anniversary in America right? That and this generation has something seemingly obvious missing from it as of right now-

The Battle Frontier.

Isn't it a bit curious that BW2 went ahead with the PWT (which is awesome btw) but they left behind one of the best aspects of the whole game - The Battle Frontier. The original Battle Frontier was in my mind the best part of Pokemon- 7 great facilities and got a lot of people (including me) to realize how difficult pokemon could become. The Battle frontier rendered the complaints about how easy the main game story was moot. Gen IV had a reduced version of the frontier which was alright, but nowhere near as good as Emeralds. Lastly, there has been almost no mention of anything RSE in the past 2 generations. Aside from a couple of cameos by Steven- comparing this to the main cast of the rest of the games to me it seems like they were holding out on us.

I'm really looking forward to this announcement but here's a list of what I would like to see from Game Freak

5) A Wii U / Nintendo Wii RPG a la colosseum
4) A pokemon MMO- down the list because it's seemingly unrealistic
3) A 3DS game allowing you to go to all the regions- again a little unrealistic
2)Emerald Remakes nuff said
1) Pokemon Stadium 3 - Equipped with mini games, Gym Leader castles and all the stadiums you could think of. Actually, come to think of it- you could couple this really well with a 3D version of the battle frontier...

It's ok to dream isn't it?

This is wrong. In interviews, GameFreak have stated they will continue to make Pokémon as long as it makes money. They have absolutely zero reason to stop now, as Pokémon is a giant cash cow for the studio.

EDIT: Source: http://pokebeach.com/2008/07/second-...resting-points
Second last paragraph.

I think you're hyping it a little too high up. Similar announcements of announcements have turned out to be Event Pokémon in the past. Perhaps all this hype is for Volt Tackle Emolga or something equally ridiculous.

I think this is game-related, though, but I agree it's a little too early for a new main series game, and certainly too early for a new generation. Either way, I think we'll get a hint as to where the Anime is headed.

Quote:

Actually, for the most part, those where the SAME models. Apart from big legendaries and Pikachu, the studios hardly care to update the models between games. Almost 700 models is a lot to keep track of, so they reuse models and animations where they can. This is also the reason why there are so few textures on the models: plain colours are "cheaper", both to make and to store as data.

I'm hoping for a remake of Gen III but I believed the announcement for something as "big" as this would have come out around easter. It's definitely not Gen 6 because BW2 isn't even a year old, though this comment below made me laugh:

Ruby/Sapphire remake or 6th Gen? If 6th Gen, make #666 a demonic legendary Pokemon.

Gen 6 is so unrealistic, but it would really screw with smogon. I'm hoping for remakes of RSE, and an expansion on DW abilities so that everything can have 3 abilities. And maybe stuff like kyogre would receive snow warning and groundon receive sand stream, who knows, so much potential. Then again, this could be a complete let down, like a new wii game or something. Personally, I've always wanted a mortal kombat version of pokemon were a move is like a kick or something.

Everything has a DW ability, unless it's a signature ability (or Levitate).

Why would they get rid of signature abilities that are associated with those two for ones that make no sense?

Gf can add more abilities at any time, it's part of the whole marketing strategy to attract more consumers.

That's a nice opinion you got there, too bad it isn't relevant, considering Pokemon isn't known for making sense to begin with.

They're not going to add abilities randomly, in the middle of a generation. If a new generation is being announced, maybe, but even if that were the case, that still wouldn't be known for quite some time.

Except for the most part, abilities do make sense.
