Welcome to Smogon Global Announcements! I'm here to start up something entirely new to Smogon. Our front page is a great way to get news on Smogon, but it certainly doesn't cover all of the things going on around our site and forums. There's also our Facebook page, which is a great place to get news, but I know that many of our forum-goers rarely view that page. As a result of all of this, I'm starting up a brand new announcements system on Smogon.

In this thread, you can read up on the latest announcements on Smogon, from up-and-coming tournaments to suspect decisions. We'll also be covering non-competitive updates, like Orange Islands threads and badge promotions. If you're interested in how the process works, read the hide tags below. Otherwise, hop right into reading through our announcements. If you're interested in getting notified of these updates, subscribe to this thread at the dropdown box above this post labelled "Thread Tools." The latest announcements will be on the last page of this thread. Enjoy!

Process for Posting Smogon Global Announcements

The main idea of how announcements will be run is this: anyone can make a Smogon Global Announcement. You don't have to be a Smogon moderator to post in this thread, or even a badgeholder. If something interesting is happening on Smogon that you think everyone should know about, it has the right to be posted in this thread. If you have any questions about this, shoot me a PM.

Here's a list of some announcements that could be made in this thread:

Smogon Metagame project results and new rounds
Council updates for any tier
VGC event updates
Anything Wi-Fi related that would want to be advertised
Orange Islands movie nights
New Orange Islands threads and projects

Again, I most emphasize that this list is not comprehensive. You can update whatever you like that is related to Smogon or even Pokemon. If you want to "self-appoint" yourself to update for specific categories, knock yourself out. However, this is going to be done on a first-come, first-post basis. Furthermore, I'm not against people posting links to things like our Facebook page or our Twitter. If it's Smogon, post it.

If you need an example of what an announcement should look like, here you go. They should be short, sweet, and to the point. They should also link to relevant threads so people can read more!

neverused update

due to the popularity of the substitute + bulk up set, braviary was suspected for its ability to set up on many slower, defensive threats in the tier and for its ability to supposedly "beat" stall handily. while braviary does indeed pose a threat to stall teams, users such as Django have shown that these teams do not entirely outright lose to braviary by simply changing one move on an already-top-tier pokemon who can afford to lose the moveslot (psych up regirock). other pokemon, such as roar bastiodon and lairon, toxic + power gem probopass, and bulky electric-types are all viable options to check this braviary set. another argument was that braviary has many opportunities to set up against and wreck balance teams, forcing them to play more offensively. however, there are already numerous amounts of other NU pokemon who can do the same. are they broken too? of course not. thus, by a 1-10 vote, members of the senate and the rotating council voted do not ban. you can read the individual paragraphs outlining more about the votes here.

as a result of the conclusion of this suspect round, Zebraiken posted a new np, np: NU Stage 7 - Free Bird. aside from the tier retaining braviary, there are a few interesting things up for discussion too. dream world released mold breaker sawk (and to a lesser extent, throh) and simisage, simisear, and simipour with their respective abilities. those are up for discussion, as well as whatever you think is relevant in the metagame right now. so have at it!

RU Shake-Ups

With the end of Stage 11 and the drops of Cresselia and Durant from BL2, SilentVerse and Oglemi have decided to retire the original members of RU senators, since many of them were going inactive. Instead of permanent council, RU will be reverting back to rotating council positions, with those who are actively laddering in RU and contributing in forum / irc discussions filling these seats. In other words, the council seats are up for grabs!

We have currently entered Stage 12, running a staggered suspect test - 2 weeks with Nidoqueen & Cresselia followed by 2 weeks without them. Hit the RU ladder and share your RU experience to earn a spot in the council!

The Competitor's 100th Update

The Competitor staff works around the clock to bring you all the most up-to-date information on the tourney scene. We just hit 100 updates, and shortly afterwards uploaded Who to Keep for SPL, an article by Nachos. A huge thanks to our writers, artists, grammar checkers, HTML coders, and tournament players for helping us hit this milestone in just under 5 months (that's 20 updates a month!) If you're interested in writing tournament-related articles and announcements, conducting interviews, or whipping up some art for The Competitor, shoot a PM to Tobes and Jellicent.

RU Mini-Tourney 8

Sign-ups are open for the RU Mini-Tourney 8. Hosted by Yonko7, this Mini-Tournament experiments with the only Pokemon currently remaining in BL2: Venomoth. In the midst of the recent changes to the RU tier, as well as the current suspect testing of Cresselia and Nidoqueen, it should certainly be interesting to see how this past threat fares in the current metagame!

New Tiering Contributors

Snowstorm brewing in RU & NU

After UU has decided to unban Snow Warning, Hail playstyle has become accessible to lower tiers thanks to Snover's PU usage (albeit that was with Soundproof). Now the snowstorm is kicking in RU and NU right before the SPL season x0 Join in on the snow days while we determine the fate of Snow Warning in these tiers! Specifically for RU, you may even end up being selected in making this pivotal tiering decisions, depending on your participation! It's noteworthy that Nidoqueen and Cresselia are also suspects alongsisde the stormy newcomer!

Issue #23 of The Smog released~

For those of you who are unaware, we released Issue #23 of The Smog earlier, complete with a spiffy new layout overhaul and almost 40 articles! We've got content on every metagame, including the Other Metagames forum and recent activities in CAP, as well as ingame information and Orange Islands activities, information on other projects in the forums, a rundown on the latest in the Pokémon TCG, and plenty of entertainment issues. We're also running the annual Smog Awards! Additionally, we ran an interview with Zarel/aeo, whom you might know better as the creator of Pokémon Showdown!. Lastly, for those of you who might want to relive all the memories (or learn about what happened in the rest of the community and maybe have a laugh) from this year, there's an article on the year as a whole full of information. Other Metagames Premier League

Signups for the first OMPL are currently live! The metagames up for offer are Random Battle, CAP, Balanced Hackmons, Doubles, PU, and TierShift. It will operate similarly to the official Smogon Premier League where users are auctioned to teams and each team will face each other team.
