Default Official Smogon University Simulator Statistics — December 2012
Sorry for the late update, folks. Technical difficulties and whatnot. This isn't like the ole days of PO where reprocessing the logs for the month took an hour, two tops. With our level of activity on Pokemon Showdown, reprocessing all the battles that take place over a given month is an all day job.

ANYWAY, we have new tiers today! I know there's *someone* out there who'll be really excited about the new NU. For the rest of you... only three months until the next tier update!

Unofficial Tiers

We have so much activity on Pokemon Showdown that I feel comfortable defining "OU" lists for a few other metagames. Treat these as "threat lists" for the various metagames, or use them to play "UU" versions of the metagames by banning these Pokemon.

Stats for December alone. Note that since RU and Ubers replaced their ladders with "suspect" ladders for large portions of December, the usage data you see is the combined usage for suspect test and regular ladder for those tiers.

Huge changes to NU will massively affect the NU metagame. 3 offensive powerhouses, a defensive support mon, and a hail setter move up. All 5 were major staples during their stay in NU, and will be missed :/

Yep, seems like someone has too much time on their hands (but its not the same person as last time!!!) Stuff like this makes me think there should be a minimum ranking required to actually get recognized in the stats, they seem too easy to manipulate in the current form. I'm not exactly disappointed with the tier changes, just the way they happened.

Yes. VGC is still under development, so I'm not yet ready to start collecting usage stats for the tier.

That was me trying to take a break from total seriousness. I thought I used this team 21 times in Ubers, but I guess 2 of them didn't record. Oh well. :B

EDIT: Back to seriousness

Looks like NU lost a LOT of stuff. Absol, Amoonguss, Cinccino, Emboar. Well I guess I'm gonna have to tweak my NU team to find a physical wall. At least I won't have to worry about Cinccino.

Abomasnow's back in UU as well as the fat pink blob. We'll see how they both fare with all the fighting types roaming the place.

Molk's Project Metang was funny but if this is going to become a recurring theme and random people are starting to spam things such as Sticky Barb Emboar, would it not be possible to ignore the trolls? Just minus the sticky barb ones and find out the real usage of Emboar, in this case? Or would that lead to the opening of pandora's box and more bs?

Well don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure that's what the 1337 statistics are for: filtering out the "noise" from less skilled players.

Anywho, I think it's neat to see just how much the tiers changed this time. Obviously NU and RU had the biggest changes, but Abomasnow and Chansey in UU is pretty big as well. Abomasnow is cool because Snover is silly and it makes me sad when I use it, but I'm curious as to what niche Chansey will find, if any, in the UU tier. It's become an incredibly offensive tier since she left, filled to the brim with Fighting-types, so Chansey, being an entirely passive Normal-type, may find adjusting to her old home a little difficult.

Oh wow, so it turns out their plan worked. On the last few days of December, there were about 3 people that had a team of huge NU threats, and some RU Pokes that were low on usage (such as Mesprit and Scolipede), and would switch out every turn for the first full 6 turns. Then they would simply forfeit so that the usage of these Pokes would get updated into the tiers.

I even remember making a team of trapping Pokemon to try and prevent this from happening, because these Pokes don't deserve to leave NU, especially when they aren't really being used as often as it claims in RU. With Molk it was okay, since it was Metang, and nobody really uses Metang in NU, but seeing these top tier threats rising up is a huge change to the NU metagame.

EDIT: Maybe in order to fix boosting of a certain Poke in tiers, you could implement it so that the usage only gets updated after a full game?

Anywho, I think it's neat to see just how much the tiers changed this time. Obviously NU and RU had the biggest changes, but Abomasnow and Chansey in UU is pretty big as well. Obviously Abomasnow is cool because Snover is silly and it makes me sad when I use it, but I'm curious as to what niche Chansey will find, if any, in the UU tier. It's become an incredibly offensive tier since she left, filled to the brim with Fighting-types, so Chansey, being an entirely passive Normal-type, may find adjusting to her old home a little difficult.
Well, I can tell you that Fighting-types were already common (though not as much, of course) last time Chansey was UU, and people hated her guts anyway. Besides, Gligar is 13 in usage, and it checks or counters 90% of the Fighting-types in the tier. In fact, I haven't given it much thought, but off the top of my head, the only stuff that would be able to break through that core would be Weavile with Low Kick, Mienshao with HP Ice, and maybe Scrafty (DD variants set up on Chansey and threaten Gligar with Ice Punch, and BU variants can't be touched by Gligar and can Rest off damage from Seismic Toss – pseudo-immunity to status also helps). SD Guts Hera could actually become more common, if it could get Toxiced or burnt it could threaten to 2HKO Gligar with +2 Facade / Double-Edge.
Actually, now that I did the calcs, Weavile would be an iffy counter, since Low Kick is only 60 BP on the Blob...

OU is a bad big brother, it gives us Chansey but not Dugtrio. Obama is actually pretty nice, since I can see it being used as an offensive check to Raikou w/o Aura Sphere, Zapdos w/o Heat Wave, Flygon, etc. with its E Belt set (Ice Shard / Giga Drain / Blizzard / Earthquake). I doubt it'll break hail, but the fact that many votes to unban said it was because of Snover making the game a virtual 5 vs 6 from the start makes me hesitate. I'll still make sure to enjoy the time it gets on the tier, however brief it may be.
And don't call me on it, but UU now has Obama and Big Bird together :D

Houndoom barely made the cut, which is nice since it's not half bad, only rather predictable. It's actually one of the few that can beat NP Mew w/o Aura Sphere, and it has much more use outside of that than Umbreon.
Nidoqueen, on the other hand, barely missed it, which is a pity since she will continue to threaten RU for three months unless they decide to ban her. She's also amazing in UU, though she'll probably never become much used with Nidoking being much more luring; even then, she's a greater offensive SR setter, since she's more reliable at doing it by having more opportunities to switch in.
I can only hope that the fact that Venomoth and Cress didn't become UU will prevent them from seeing too much usage, since they're quite powerful on their own way (admittedly, though, Cress will never make a big impact with Heracross lurking around, but it's still a big threat to offense, and Moxie Heracross can't really counter it for fear of Thunder Wave). WS Venomoth is pretty cool, since it punishes people for banking on a 50% chance of Taunting or Whirlwinding it with a gg right there, even if Tinted Lens has great coverage in Bug Buzz alone (Crobat and Chandy are the few common things that resist it).

Snover's such a big turnoff that rain teams are actually more popular?? One thing though, I'd like to know what the things taken into account for those percentages are, since I've seen teams that shouldn't really be called Rain teams (Tornadus, Kingdra, and Magneton don't look like Rain to me)

Thank you Antar for the stats!

UU players must be furious with the addition of Chansey. I recall seeing people posting things along the lines of "Oh dear god do not let that damn blob drop!" I guess things like Chandelure, Raikou, and possibly Nidoking are going to drop a bit in usage.

I am also surprised to see Scizor back at the top of OU. I guess without Genesect running rampant it found a way to reclaim the number 1 spot.

I detest that a couple users are artificially inflating that stats, but Hail returning to the tier is the push to get Emboar and Cinccino into RU, Emboar in particular being excellent in the tier.

Absol should have been RU for months.

Wtf is with Amoonguss literally nobody uses that thing.
