I thought this was a great smogcast and a very enjoyable thing to listen to, but I disagree when it was claimed SpDef Gliscor was a bad gimmick.

SpDef Gliscor plays to a different strength than normal Gliscor does. It checks pokemon like Physically Mixed Infernape and Mixed Dragonite a lot better than one would think. Swampert can't hope to beat it very well either. It takes on Mixed Flygon well, and it handles random HP Ices from Electrics much better. It walls HP Flying Zapdos which choose not to run Choice Specs. (I use 252HP/6SpA/252Spe Leftovers Modest Zapdos with HP Flying/Roost/U-Turn occassionally)

It checks CM Jirachi better than Fast Gliscor does. It also lets you stay in against defensive Celebi much more easily, and Taunt and Toxic them. You have a slower Roost, so Energy Ball doesn't hit you for SE damage either. If you Toxic Scarf Hydro Pump Rotom-w on the switch, you can actually Roost stall it with Sand Veil since you live Hydro Pump. It can switch into Scarf Rotom-w's Shadow Ball much more easily than Jolly Gliscor can. That is useful in a pinch if SR isn't up as a pivot. Or it can stay in vs Bronzong and taunt it without fearing HP Ice as much.

It is basically the same deal as SpDef Hippo, except a fast Taunt isn't as useful as you would think when everything you would Taunt would threaten you with strong special moves anyway. SpDef Gliscor lets you stay in against pokemon which you would have no business staying in against anyway, which isn't gimmicky or bad - its a different kind of strength.

I would use this Gliscor on a slightly different playstyle than normal Gliscor. Since tbh, you won't always have a water pokemon + a grass pokemon to back Gliscor up which is where SpDef Gliscor shines. Its good to stay in and Toxic stuff like Vaporeon with SpDef Gliscor in the case you decide to use triple steel/bulky scarf rotom/frail water resist like LO Starmie. SpDef Gliscor can find his home on those kind of teams and others from the example I have given.

Some seasoned DPP players used SpDef Gliscor before. I actually got the idea from Earthworm who used it on his Clefable team.
