This is my first RMT, and hopefully not my last. I decided to use a rain team since I don't normally use weather. This is the team...
At a glance In more detail Politoed @ Leftovers Ability: Drizzle EVs: 252HP, 252Def, 4SpD Nature: Bold Moveset: - Protect - Scald - Perish Song - Toxic Politoed is on the team to set up the rain, and tank a few hits. It has Toxic over Hypnosis, because 60% accuracy just isn't good enough. Just your standard bulky Politoed set. Not much to explain really. Skarmory @ Leftovers Ability: Sturdy EVs: 252HP, 232Def, 32Spe Nature: Impish Moveset: - Stealth Rock - Brave Bird - Roost - Whirlwind Skarmory is the physical wall of the team and takes on most physical attackers easily. It has Stealth Rock instead of Spikes, because I feel Stealth Rock is a much more important type of entry hazard. The rest of the set is standard. Makes up half of the 'SkarmBliss' combination, except with Chansey. Chansey @ Eviolite Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 252HP, 252Def, 4SpD Nature: Bold Moveset: - Wish - Seismic Toss - Softboiled - Thunder Wave Chansey is a great mixed wall in general. Wish aids the team by granting them 352HP if they can switch in safely. This means the recipient of Chansey's Wish will be fully healed most of the time, meaning they get another shot at what it is they're supposed to do. Seismic Toss deals consistent damage, and Softboiled is for instant recovery should Chansey need it. Thunder Wave cripples most attacking switch-ins, meaning they are easier to deal with, and also means Wish has a higher chance of being passed to the intended target while taking no damage. Chansey completes the other half of the pseudo 'SkarmBliss' combination. Toxicroak @ Life Orb Ability: Dry Skin EVs: 4HP, 252Att, 252Spe Nature: Adamant Moveset: - Swords Dance - Sucker Punch - Cross Chop - Ice Punch Toxicroak is an underrated threat. If the opponent lacks a way to deal with Toxicroak, it often ends up sweeping quite easily. Swords Dance and Life Orb enable it to pack quite a punch, even after just one boost. Sucker Punch provides priority, while completing great coverage with the other two moves. Dry Skin negates Life Orb recoil and means it can do damage for longer. It can also wall quite a few water types, like Tentacruel. Starmie @ Expert Belt Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 4HP, 252SpA, 252Spe Nature: Timid Moveset: - Hydro Pump - Thunder - Ice Beam - Rapid spin This Starmie is very powerful in the rain. I don't like the recoil of Life Orb on my spinner, but Leftovers lacks the power to 2HKO certain threats like Jellicent. Expert Belt is a good compromise, and with it, Starmie can deal massive damage to the opponent's team. It can also gain a surprise KO, as people would expect it to have a choice item, seeing as after each move, its HP doesn't change. Breloom @ Toxic Orb Ability: Poison Heal EVs: 236HP, 240SpD, 32Spe Nature: Careful Moveset: - Bulk Up - Seed Bomb - Drain Punch - Spore / Stone Edge / Mach Punch Breloom is here in place of Landorus to pose a bigger physical threat to the opposing team. The EVs are slightly different to the ones suggested, as specially defensive heatran now run 8 speed EVs, meaning Breloom would have to take more of its special bulk away, which isn't preferable. The speed EVs are still enough to outrun the standard Choice Band Tyranitar set. I can't decide which move should go in the lost slot. Spore is generally the best option, whereas both Stone Edge and Mach Punch are useful in certain situations. Team problems My team has 3 electric weaknesses, while having one resistance. However both Breloom and Chansey can handle most Electric attacks. Strong Fighting type moves still give my defensive pokemon a hard time, and threats like double dancing Terrakion can sometimes run through my team, depending on what final move Breloom runs. Other than that, I haven't experienced any other problems as of yet. Thank you for taking the time to read this thread, and I would appreciate any feedback on how to improve the team. Hi, Youngster Joey! Solid team. I find that your team has problems getting past Blissey if Toxicroak goes down. It pretty much walls your whole team. I also find that Rotom-W is problematic if Chansey isn't around, as it can use Volt Switch to take out Politoed, Skarmory and Starmie, while using Hydro Pump to take out Landorus. I don't really think Landorus is necessary on your team, as it doesn't hit hard at all without Sand's presence. To fix your problems to Blissey and Rotom-W, I would recommend a Bulk Up Breloom instead of Landorus.
Breloom gives you an additional teammate that helps you deal with Blissey, while adding an Electric resist. It helps you deal with VoltTurn, as Scizor and Rotom-W have problems dealing with it. Thanks to Bulk Up, its Attack and Defense increases, and after a couple of boosts, it becomes a monster. With Spore, it can use an opponent as set-up fodder, as well as incapacitating it for the whole match if he switches out. Drain Punch is a good STAB, that grants recovery in addition to dealing damage. Seed Bomb helps deal with Gastrodon and Jellicent. Now, you don't have to put too much pressure on Chansey to tank all Electric attacks! Cool team, and good luck! @Expert Physics Thank you for the feedback. Yeah I see what you mean about Landorus being fairly weak without sand. I will definitely give that a try on the team. Now I have a way to properly defeat Rotom-W. However I do see Spore coinciding with T-Wave and Toxic already on the team. Maybe I could run another coverage move? Suggestions anyone? Anyway thanks a lot for your input.
