Congrats cbb on the win! This tournament was a lot of fun, NU would sure be a lot different without entry hazards. Instead of closing this thread and letting it die, what are your opinions on the tournament, what Pokemon shined, what ones fell?

Even though I lost in round one, I did spectate a lot of the matches. Since the obvious Mons that are weak to Stealth Rock abuse and Sturdy Mons were running rampant on teams, a great "anti-meta" poke is Cincinno. With Rock Blast and its high speed, it can OHKO many of the SR weak Pokemon such as Articuno, Shedinja (breaks through sash too), and Charizard. Another cool thing is its ability to KO through Sturdy/Focus Sash pokemon with its multi-hit moves such as OHKOing Sawk and Golem. Most of the teams I saw were pretty weak to Cinccino especially if Cinccino has decent team support.
Cool theme with a lot of Pokemon getting more limelight than usual. Good minitour (not for me though :P)

I used nearly the same team throughout the whole tourney and it really did wonderfully.
I first wondered which pokes that could abuse the lack of hazards and thought of shedinja. More than abusing SR weak pokes, I wanted to counter what I thought my opponent were likely to use. I was pretty sure charizard and articuno would be common in the tourney and flareon seemed a great counter to both even if he isn't doing much to charizard either. This lead me into creating a very solid 4 mon defensive core with decent offensive presence. Alomomola took on every physical attacker, flareon took on most special attackers, eviolite electabuzz (max spe max sp.a) could take on electric types (mainly rotoms) like a boss and shedinja found a niche as an excellent counter to most very dangerous water types like samurott, gorebyss and ludicolo. Eviolite electabuzz also deserves a special mention for being a total boss (even with hazards) and hitting hard the flying types everyone wanted to abuse. Buzz was also easy to send in when people kept spamming air slash with charizard hopng to flinch flareon. I still needed some offense and since I knew people would be abusing rock weak mons, I thought of CB gigalith which I had also used on ladder with a decent success. He hits harder than golem and does not have 4x resistances making him easier heal with wish. I used both stone-edge and rock blast in case someone would want to sub with BU braviary. Superpower seemed a better coverage move than earthquake because of all the flying types that could get a free switch. Last move was explosion for style ! My last spot is the one that changed during every game. I lacked priority and set up sweepers so I first tried bellynoone but replaced him with acroblim because destiny bond came helpful when games came out to continuous stalling. Looking back, I could have tried covering my mantine and swanna weakness but in the end I didn't even meet them. Every member of my team also had one move for shedinja (electabuzz ran toxic over hp ice) and my own shedinja ran protect just to scout any suprises. It also ended up very useful since I had 2 toxic users and shed had will-o-wisp. Really liked the tourney btw, good one raseri :). |
