"Facts, numbers, theories and ideas" to talk about Pokemon is fucking boring. They did go over quite a bit of information, but most of it was through humor. I actually like the humor of the Smogcast, as it does well to reflect some of the things we as players are thinking when we have to go up against all of the ridiculous things Black and White has brought to competitive Pokemon. I don't think I could have said it better myself when they mentioned in the last cast that playing against Rain was retarded, and the sentiment has done well to echo through the more or less agreeing community.

Current Smogcast was decent, not my favorite, but if the quality remains consistent, I would not mind continuing to listen to you guys rant about Pokemon.

While the Smog cast is funny (and it was worth listening to for that reason), it wasn't...intellectually tactful.

There were a lot of redundancies and blanket statements going on. Saying "x Pokemon is retarded" isn't going to cut it when you're talking about Pokemon ranging anywhere from Choice Band Gyarados to Reuiniclus to Ferrothorn to rain teams in general. Why not go in to a deeper explanation as to why they are [insert opinion here], and what listeners can do to potentially prepare for them? Or what news set are available to them?

I mean, the first thing I thought when I started hearing statements like "Ferrothorn rules the metagame" is aw fuck, now listeners are going to forget Fighting types exist, and now they'll have something else to bitch about. I'd rather hear why Ferrothorn is good (even if obviously so, say why its good in comparison to say, when it first was released, or after Aldaron's proposal) or what can be done to deal with it.

I find these things to be especially important because the people hosted on these casts are prominent members of the community. People WILL take your opinions (even if not all of them are politically correct, logistically sound) on face value and run with them because they think you know what you're talking about. I think its things like this that contribute to the somewhat ban happy following we've had come Gen V.

tl;dr Rants are cool, and I enjoy hearing them. I get a laugh out of it. But I'd prefer more substance with said hilarity.

The Smogcast is absolutely ruled by opinion. We are merely stating our opinions in a way that we intend to be humorous and informative. We said Ferrothorn rules the metagame because at the time, it did, and we genuinely thought that. We went into in-depth detail about why Rain and Sun are good. We noted that Ferrothorn in Rain is damn near impossible to kill.

I'm sorry that you felt detail was lacking, but as was said before, we're not looking for an absolutely intellectual, academic discussion. We went into detail about what we thought was important, stated our opinions about the metagame, and for the most part we just happened to agree with one another in regards to a lot of the issues.

Trying to hold us "liable" for some kind of "ban-happy" mentality is poor at best. We'd like to assume that our listeners are capable of listening to the Smogcast and using the information within to form their own opinions. I don't think it's "irresponsible" to create an easily accessible way for top battlers to voice their opinions. Also, that statement of "because they think you know what you're talking about" is pretty insulting, because it implies that what we're saying is bad or irresponsible because we don't know what we're talking about, when our panelists have all formed our opinions based on our real metagame experience and time spent playing and testing things in the metagame.

tl;dr: Don't try and hold us responsible for people believing something you happen to not agree with. People will form their own opinions, and we just want to entertain our listeners and hopefully give them an idea of what some of the top battlers think of the metagame.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the cast being ruled by opinion (it's inevitable that it will be). I just believe that some proper explanations for those opinions, rather than just the outright opinions and nothing more, would be preferable.

And for the liability comment, you guys aren't responsible for anything. This isn't your job, you're not being paid for this; I'm just saying that you guys hold an influence over many members of the community (as well as potential suspect voters) and I think that should be noted. Nothing more.

I wasn't implying anything out of context. I probably should have chosen a better set of words. I simply meant that people will, for the most part, take your opinions on face value, regardless of what position you hold or what reasons you have, because you are experienced members. I wasn't attempting to discredit you, it's the opposite rather.

Again, if it weren't for the fact that you guys were entertaining (Jabba especially) I wouldn't have listened to you guys because you didn't cover any material that was particularly new to myself. But that's mostly what I am pointing out; when I sit down and listen to a podcast on competitive battling for anything, it's typically because I am looking for insights and opinions on things outside of my experience. I'm sure many people can relate to this.

Ultimately its your cast guys. You can choose to rant humorously, have intellectual discussions, or do a combination of both. I was just putting in my word that I thought the latter would be ideal; you've done casts like this in the pasts that were like this and they were very enjoyable.

Anyway, any offensive implications my post may have had weren't intended. Hopefully I made that clear. I hope you continue the casts and don't drop the humor.

I have to say, I really liked the cast. The only "problem" I had was the hype corner, but even then it wasn't like "Omg this ruined the Smogcast wtf". JabbaHail sounds ultra awesome. It didn't seem as long or in depth as other casts had been, to be sure, but maybe that's because "Weather sucks" is all that needed to be said. OU is insane right now though. Even winning is just too stressful in this metagame. I'm heading back to LC lol.

I thought the episode was fine except for the excessive foul language. There is no reason for it. Foul language should be used for emphasis if ever used and if you use it all the time it loses its effectiveness. With all the foul language I can't really recommend the podcast to anyone. Also continually saying that GF hates this and that is not really helpful for either the discussion topic and it really is about 1/5 of what you say when you talk about the thing (GF hates/loves this thing). just my two bits.

This was the first Smogcast that I listened to and I found it to be quite enjoyable. I am glad that the lot of you were able to make it a fun podcast that was not filled with hard number crunching. Sometimes people forget that Pokémon is meant to be fun, and this podcast helps remind us of that.

you seem to be forgetting the majority of us play pokemon for fun; what's the use of playing it if you can't just fuck around and have a good time with it? i personally wouldn't listen to it if they didn't take it this lightly and make it entertaining.
