Default Bayleef (Analysis)

[Overview]

While previous generations have clearly marked Meganium superior to Bayleef, the new Eviolite may just change that. With this new item, Bayleef can outclass many common stallers, and take down entire teams with its assortment of hazards and recoveries.

[SET]
Set Name: LeechDrain
Bayleef @ Eviolite Trait: Overgrow/Leaf Guard

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Ancient Power/Sunny Day

- Leech Seed
- Ingrain/Aromatherapy

[SET COMMENTS]

Clearly, Bayleef can make a wonderful staller with use of moves like Giga Drain and Leech Seed. With Sunny Day, sandstorm teams can be taken down easily, while Ancient Power can up Bayleef's stats, and provide as a good offense.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This set can also function very well when Baton Passed out of a Pokemon that can raise defenses, or SAtk. With Defenses of 389 when equipped with the Eviolite, this is not a Pokemon to meddle in the affairs of.

On top of this already superior setup, a Sunny Day running one can easily cripple most weather based teams, including Sandstorm. This also takes down the problem that most walls have, due to weather easing it down.

[SET]
Set Name: GrainWall
Bayleef @ Eviolite Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SAtk / 128 Def / 128 SDef
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Substitute

- Protect
- Ingrain

[SET COMMENTS]

Bayleef also makes a powerful wall. With ingrain to serve as a replacement for Leftovers, and Giga Drain to serve as a viable recovery move, it can wall out most of OU. With a Sub that's hard to break, and a Protect so that it can survive longer without cutting its HP, this is truly not a force to mess with.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

While this set does have trouble with the common weather team, it can cripple nearly any Clear-Skies-like team. On top of that, most other defensive threats look like a joke to Bayleef.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Well, there is one massive flaw in Bayleef, as with all Pokemon. This one's flaw is its predictability. While it does have an extremely broad moveset, Bayleef is unable to successfully take full advantage of many of its moves, and it even lacks Recover. While it is a good Pokemon, it just doesn't have much to do on the side.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

While these are staller sets that this Pokemon runs best of all, it has a terrible defensive typing. It's no question why all of its sets are nearly required to run Eviolite. With weaknesses to four common types, this Pokemon has to make use of what bulk it has in order to take a good hit.

One of the most annoying parts about running a defensive Bayleef is that it is wise to switch out when faced with any Special Sweeper, due to weaknesses to Fire, Ice and Bug. due to this, it is easily OHKOed by the very common Heatran.

New here? Yeah, don't mean to minimod but you have to check the "What aren't we writing about?" thread and see if Bayleaf is on the list or not. Sadly Bayleaf is on the list (it's not up there but it should be) so you'll have to delete this thread or wait for a mod to lock it up. Then you go to the thread I posted and prove why Bayleaf deserves an OU analysis. If they approve, you post in the "5th Gen OU Analyses Index" thread that you reserved Bayleaf.
