Kingler. seriously.

At first I was rather scared of the water-as-a-physical move typing, until I saw Gyarados with a physical water stab. And then I remembered an old favorite that I always wanted to implement: Kingler. Now I'm pumped! Here's a couple thoughts:

Kingler
Type: Water
Ability: Hyper Cutter / Shell Armor
Base Stats: 55HP / 130!!AT / 115Def / 50SA&SD / 75Spd
(seriously.. 130 attack.. sick)

His movepool isn't all that great, but with his attack, anything that he hits with a phys move is gonna feel it.

Kingler @ Salac Berry
*ability: hyper cutter
~Swords Dance
~Crabhammer
~Endure
~Flail
Stabbed 90 BP Crabhammer with even just one swords dance and maybe an activated salac is going to do damage to a -lot- of pokes. If they are water resistant, hope that flail gets em. Main worries are bulky waters and any faster special attacker with electrics.

Kingler @ Choice Band
*ability: shell armor
~Crabhammer
~Brick Break
~Return
~Rock Slide
The last two slots there are really just fillers, because Crabhammer is going to be the move of choice for the most part. BBreak is for the steels and special wall.. that doesn't realize what's coming. Any suggestions here would be gladly appreciated.

That's really about it, with his movepool, but even so, he has really great potential, especially if he can get some speed/sdef buffs passed to him. For a full look at his movepool, look here: http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/099.shtml

I look forward to playing with this guy. I'd definately make sure I put X-scissor or Body Slam on one of its last two slots on the CB set. Needs to slow stuff down or hit things like Celebi harder, especially since we will most likely be without tiers at the start of our Competitor analysises.

I would use this for a CB set:

- Crabhammer
- X-scissor
- Return/Body Slam
- Rock Slide

Rock Slide so you aren't totally screwed by fliers (especially Zapdos, should one try to switch in). Crabhammer for STAB, of course. X-scissor to mess with dark types, and Return/Body Slam for general attacking power.

On the CBer I would probably be inclined to drop one of those filler moves for Knock Off.. It is a pretty sweet move.

Probably X-Scissor.. I think the other moves are more useful, allowing it to be a psuedo water-type counter.

However, I think subflail is actually the best bet with this dude.. Or some other kind of swords dancer at least.

Have a nice day.

Kingler's problem is its speed and its abysimal special defense. Even its defense is not that great, despite the 115 stat, because its HP is only 55.

I'd boost this guy's speed with Choice Scarf, then, to prevent Kingler from taking as many hits as possible. With that 130 base attack, it will still dish quite a lot of damage, as already noted. Its base speed is 75, which isn't THAT horrible, and can actually get to 394 with 216 Speed EVs and a +Speed nature, which is more than can be said of Crawdaunt.

He still severely lacks move coverage options.

Although some may feel it may be worth taking advantage of Kingler's great defense and Amnesia. His speed isn't anything to shout about but its enough, I sitll find it a shame about the HP though otherwise his defense would be actually useful and paltry spcl.def more neglectable.

Brick Break on Kingler isn't that great. Name 4 (potentially) OU Steels:

Metagross, Skarmory, Steelix and Bronzong.

All of them take much more damage from Crabhammer (135 after STAB) than Brick Break. Crabhammer is a superior Rock killer as well. The only thing BB does more to than Crabhammer is Normals, and Bibarel more specifically. You're better off with Crabhammer 99% of the time because a CH deals ridiculous damage, even to things that resist.

Adamant CB Crabhammer to 656/130 Blissey: 67-79%

Adamant CB Brick Break to 656/130 Blissey: 75-88%

The upper limit of Crabhammer and lower limit of BB Intersect, therefore BB isn't really that usefull.

What I would recommend over it is Knock Off. X-Scissor and Rock Slide get more mileage against the threats they address, Return just doesn't deal enough damage, and Body Slam is viable, but leaves you a bit open if you don't get the para hax. Knock Off lets you deal some damage to thier wall and remove its leftovers, so that next tine Kingler comes in the wall won't have any healing benefits. For what its worth it also shaves a little over 10% off max defense Impish Dusknoir, and can remove Mence's Specs, significantly reducing its raping power.

The Physical/Special split has done awesome things for him, having physical Crabhammer is cool. Choice Scarf added on top of that is an extra bonus. It's taken him four generations to do it but finally, he's actually decent now. X-Act beat me to mentioning Choice Scarf but nonetheless

Kingler @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crabhammer
- Rock Slide
- X-Scissor
- Knock Off / Brick Break

The shallow physical move-pool issue is unfortunately still there but at least it has enough moves to create a viable Choice Scarf set. Max Speed plus Choice Scarf doesn't outrun Crobat/Aero/Jolt but it can outrun Sceppy/Duggy/Kazam. The poor bugger isn't going to make it into OU/Standard though anyway, I think everyone knows that, but he looks quite funky for UU.

A little love for a straight forward Swords Dance set is also due.

Kingler @ Salac Berry / Leftovers / Life Orb
Trait: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crabhammer
- X-Scissor
- Swords Dance
- Rock Slide / Knock Off / Brick Break / Substitute

It's a slow bugger but if you can slow everyone else down with some good para support, why not?

Agreeing with Hipno. And just to remember, Water+Normal (just resisted by Emperuto, if I'm not wrong) is an awesome combo if you can hit hard. And yeah, Kingler can do that.

Hidden Power Ground works too for Kingler right? Since it's weak to Electric? or would Hidden Power Flying be better?
HP Ground is Special now. And a STAB Crabhammer does pretty much the same damage (or more) that a super-effectvie Hidden Power would do if it were physical.

Edit: Beaten to it.

TOKÉ TOKÉ

I had completely forgotten about how cool the Kingpin(cer) was, probably because it sucked in all the previous generations. Now it can rock the UU environment with physical Crabhammer. It gets Rock Slide too now that it is a TM. After Salac kick, Adamant max Speed outspeeds everything except Electrode.

I'm not sure if Subflailing is a good idea if Hippowdon and Abomasnow are going to be UU. I'd just go for the old Salac Dancing set with Crabhammer/Rock Slide/X-Scizzor. Rock Slide for, I dunno, Pelipper or whatever and X-Scizzor for various Grass. Electrics have no chance against a SD'd Crabhammer.
