This is from PE2K. I made it, but all the guys I give credit to are from PE2K. If this needs to be moved, I apologize. If you are an experianced Competetive Battler, this is unnecesary to read. THis Guide is only for Newbies.

Intro

If this needs to be deleted, I apologize.
I suggest reading BladeTest's Stickied Guide before this one.
OK, this guide is basically advice on Competetive playing.
And if you want to really get Competetive, you should read this long, boring, guide.

What is competetive playing? It's when you go on WiFi and fight other guys. The thing is, to have a complete Competetive Team, you need to perfect these areas.

1)Moves
1.1)Hidden Power
2)Level
3)EV's
4)Natures
5)IV's (not completely neccessary)
6)Items
7)Strategy

1) Moves
-OK, the worst thing you can do is have a Pokemon with 4 of the same type moves.
Like say a Charizard with Ember (you really shouldn't be using moves like that anyways), Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Blast Burn. Not only is it redundant, but it has horrible type coverage. You want a wide variety of types to cover differant Mons.

-Also, avoid "Hyper Beam" moves, there pointless and leave you vunerable for a turn.

-You can also use moves that don't neccesarily do damage, but inflict statuses or increase/ decrease stats. Swords Dance is a great move for Physical Sweepers because it raises the users Attack by 2 Stages (Doubles it). Amnesia and Iron Defense are moves for Tanks, it increases their staying power by raising their respective defenses.

-Recovery moves are useful for Walls, like Blissey (Softboiled) or Slowbro (Slack Off).

-Last, but not least, there are Status Moves. Toxic, Hypnosis, Spore, ect. can be bothersome. Toxic helps Tanks and Walls because it causes residual damage to the foe.
Sleep Powder and Spore help Sweepers, they incacipate the foe before they can counterattack.

-Use moves that make sense with the Pkmn using them.
Also, don't put low Power High PP moves like Tackle. Anything with a Base Power under 60really shouldn't be used unbless it has a great effect like Fake Out or something.
Don't use 1HKO moves to often either, they have to low an accuracy.
There are also Egg Moves, special moves that can only be learned by breeding and hatching a baby with a Parent with that move. Note that the feamle is the species and that the father must be in it's Egg Group. Through Egg Moves, you can get a Curseing Swampert or a Wishing Umbreon, there useful.

1.1)There's one move I'd like to single out, it's called Hidden Power. This seemingly pointless move has potential if used correctly. First, Hidden Power's Base Power is from 30-70, which makes it kinda low-ish, however, it's really used because of all the Types it can be. First, the typing. It'd be easiest to just try it out on random Pkmn, see if it's SuperEffective or not, and make a mental chart and finally narrow it down to 1 Type. To find it's Power is sorta complicated.
Now, you might want to now some basic Math, here's the equation:

HP Typing=(T1+T2+T3+T4+T5+T6)*15/63
Before you close this window, let me explain, HP's Type depends on your Mon's IV's.
Plug the corresponding values into the equation and we'll see.
IV for HP Stat is odd, then T1=1
IV for Attack is odd, then T2=2
IV for Defense odd, then T3=4
IV for Speed odd, then T4=8
IV for Spec. Attack odd, then T5=16
IV for Spec. Defense odd, then T6=32

Any IV not odd or 0 = 0.

So let's look at my Slowbro, his IV's are:

HP=(1+2+4+8+16+0)*15/63
HP=(41)*15/63
HP is roughly 9, so using the chart, it's the Water Type. (Wow, how pointless)

2) Level
-Really all you want to do is for them to reach 100, to get all those EV's (I'll talk about them in the next section)

4)Natures
-Differant Natures affect the EV's Effect's in Differant Stats.
So, let's look at the Modest Nature, it gives a 10% Boost to Spec. Attack and a 10% Decrease in Attack. It's good for a Spec. Sweeper because you can boost the used Spec. Attack, and lower the useless unused Attack. See?

6) Finally Items.

-Please note that all 10% Specialized Type Items (Quick Claw, Kings Rock, Charcoal, Mystic Water) are useless. This does not include Muscle Sash and Wise Glasses, those effect all Phys./Spec. Moves

-Competetive item's are Choice Specs/Band, Leftovers, Berries, Wise Glasses/Muscle Sash, Focus Sash, ect.

-Here's a list of stupid Items:

-Use items that make sense, don't use C-Band on Blissey or Leftovers on Weavile.
Leftovers are a staple for Walls or Bulky mons.
C-Band, Focus Sash, ect. are good for sweepers.

Leftovers-Heals a 16th of your health per turn. Most Tanks will need this.

Life Orb-Powers all of your attacks 30% and decreases your health by 10% every time you use a damaging attack. Works nicely with Mixed Sweepers.

Expert Belt-Increases all Super Effective attacks by 10%. Works well with Pokemon that have good type coverage.

Muscle Band-Increases all Physical Attacks by 10%. Most useful with Physical Sweepers.

Wise Glasses-Increases all Special Attacks by 10%. Most useful with Special Sweepers.

Choice Band-Boosts Attack by x1.5, but only allows the use of only 1 attack.

Choice Specs-Boosts Special Attack by x1.5, but only allows the use of only 1 attack.

Choice Scarf-Boosts Speed by x1.5, but only allows the use of only 1 attack.

Focus Sash-Pokemon can’t be OHKO by any 1 attack. Pokemon that has low defenses will need this.

Black Sludge-Heals an 8th of HP per turn for only poison types. Other types holding this item will be hurt by 8th every turn.

Lum berry-It heals any status. What can go wrong?

Chesto Berry-Only useful for pokes with rest. It heals sleep.

Quick Claw-Has 10% of going first.(Hax)

Toxic Orb-Inflicts Toxic status on your Pokemon. Only useful with Breloom.

Flame Orb-Inflicts Burn Status on your Pokemon. Only useful for Milotic and Pokemon with Guts.

7)Strategy

1)Team Building
A team always needs two main types of pokemon: Sweepers and Walls. For example, you could build a team of Garchomp, Gengar, Salamence, Dugtrio, Skarmory, and Blissey (the first four being sweepers, the last two being walls) and it would work well. But in those categories, there are sub-sections.
1.1)Sweepers: Pokemon used to directly attack others with either special or physical moves. Ex: Garchomp, PorygonZ, Salamence, and Alakazam.
1.2)Walls: Used for taking hits that are not very effective against it. Basically, for anticipating moves and taking little damage. Ex: Skarmory, blissey, bronzong, cloyster.
1.3)Tanks: Pkm that can last a long time in battle slowly wearing down the opponent. Most have some sort of stat raises move or non-direct attack (toxic, will-o-wisp, t wave). Ex: Cresselia, regice, milotic, tentacruel.
1.4)Baton Passers: Purely for raising stats of another pokemon or trapping another. Ex: Ninjask, umbreon, smeargle, cradily.
1.5)Bulky Waters: Water types with few weaknesses and high defenses and hp that can take a few hits then dish it out. Ex: Swampert, milotic, blastoise, suicine.
1.6)Annoyers: Used to inflict status problems and lower or get rid of stat boosting/decreasing. Ex: Weezing (haze), dusknoir (pain split, will-o-wisp), skarmory (spikes, steal rock, roar) and umbreon (mean look, wish)

2)Prediction
The most important part of this game is prediction. This it what separates the best from the rest. The best thing you can do is have ALOT of battles. A very good program for this is Shoddy Battle. The program is found http://shoddybattle.com/.
2.1)When to Switch.
There are a few obviuos times to switch:
If your opponent sends in a Special Sweeper on your Physical wall.
If your opponent sends in a Physical Sweeper on your Special wall.
With a Baton Passer (duh).
The other times depend on situations. For example, you might want to switch a ghost type pokemon in if your opponent is going to use a Normal/Fighting attack or a Steel type in if they try to intoxic your pokemon. One of the better switch-in's is Houndour or any pokemon with guts. If they are going to use Will-o-Wisp, you should switch one of them in to get the boosts.
Battling on Shoddy Battle will be the best help for you. In your battles, ask the opponent for advice. Most of them are nice, but if they're not tell me and I'll make 'em pay!
2.2)When Your Opponent Will Switch.
You must be very wary of your opponents pokemon. If you see he has a Metagross, don't use Toxic until you take care of it. If you see it has Blissey, don't use a ghost move with your Special sweeper. Instead use Focus Blast. This also will get better the more you battle on Shoddy Battle.
