I actually do agree, and I suspect I got a PM because my team was not edited in anyway. Not much we can do now, but this really sucks for people who didn't PM in on time or were sleeping due to their time zones...

Aahh, I never even saw the post. I just saw the PM and instantly replied (Being a ref helped though).

Yeah, 13 hours is bad. If people have had teams effected this is unfair, and I think we should all resend in teams (48 hours or 24 seems good), and randomise the opponents again.

Ofc, if there are no real complaints we might as well carry on.

I am not sure where the "13 hours" part is coming in. Every single participant involved in this tournament received a PM at around this time:

May 22nd, 2011, 8:52:28 PM

That is Eastern time. That definitely looks like more than 13 hours to me. That looks like almost 27, actually. Regardless of whether the rule was posted immediately, all members were aware of this 27 hours before closing time. There's no miscommunication here. Everyone else, including Australians, Italians, and fellow people from GB were able to put in their Pokemon on time and knew that it was to be done this way. 27 hours is plenty of time to PM Engineer or even myself the names of two of your starting Pokemon. Ask the other 43 or so participants who put theirs in on time.

To be honest, it was either we RNG rolled your Pokemon or you would have an auto-DQ. We decided not to go with the latter to still give you an even chance to participate. I'm sorry if you did not submit your Pokemon Arcanite, but it's the rules that were clearly told to all individuals.

Yeah, my Bronzong has his Porygon completely shut down. Then Machamp can eat his Ducklett.

So how are your matches going?

Haven't started yet, but I think I've already got a bit of an advantage: it's my Gallade and HP Ice Jolteon against his Steelix and Bayleef.

Tbh that match will be decided on the coinflip for who sends out first. If he can work it so that it's Bayleef vs. Gallade and Jolteon vs. Steelix, you will probably lose. If you can work it so that you get Gallade up against Steelix and Bayleef vs. Jolteon, you'll probably win. Simple.

It's already up, he picked Bayleef first, and I sent out Jolteon.

Believe it or not, not everyone has vB notifications turned on. You should never, ever rely exclusively on them, and official correspondence should only ever be through the forums. The ~13 hours I refer to is the difference between the posting of this post notifying participants that they need to PM teams and this post starting the tournament. May 23rd, 2011, 8:31:09 PM followed by May 24th, 2011, 12:22:39 AM are the two times. On second look, that's not even a full 4 hours. Regardless of the PMs, which are never reliable, there should have been 24 full hours (1 day) between the two posts to give players ample time to send in their teams.

I'm not asking for a change of the brackets or the allowance for people to change their teams. I'm raising hell so this doesn't happen again, and as a CAP moderator I can and am obliged to raise hell so that you guys know what is and is not OK. We have participants in these things around the globe, and everyone deserves equal opportunity to get their chosen teams or what-have-you in before it's closed. That's all. Don't argue it, don't tell me I'm wrong, just deal with it and make sure that this never happens again. This will be my only warning in the matter.

I was under the impression that PMs were the mode of correspondence because they have something that lets you see if it's been read yet. No? Isn't that more reliable than a thread which they may or may not click on?

PMs can be missed and receipts don't matter if you're only waiting a certain period of time anyway. The forum thread provides public correspondence that anyone can verify, especially in threads that participants follow religiously. CAP has always operated under the pretense that 24 hours via forum thread are given to users because of our worldwide following. PMs can and likely should be used in addition to the thread, but the thread matters most.

It's my Revenankh and Starmie against Shadoo's Nidoqueen and Lickilicky. I'm pretty sure I have the advantage, but IDK for sure

Lol you think?

Starmie has two STABs that mess up Nidoqueen, while Revenakh has an SE STAB against Lickilicky and is immune to its STAB...

If it's the other way around, then Revenakh still has a good front against Nidoqueen and resists Poison, while Starmie and Lickilicky are a much closer match...

As another issue people seem to have, it seems to be a ridiculous disadvantage to go first at the moment. Because people tend to have two Pokemon that work well together, they generally have a situation where whoever sends out their Pokemon first loses both matchups. Can I suggest nominating your first Pokemon in PM to the ref? It would eliminate this, and I think it is worth doing because many matches look like they are being decided purely on that coin toss.

That is actually an amazing idea, and I think it should be implemented from here on in to erase the coin toss thingy altogether. The toss would be for who attacks first, first. It'd be a lot more fair in more matchups

I would definitely support this in future match-ups. I've looked through some of the battles and that once coin toss looks like it could have just decided some of the matches.

I agree. See my post above for an example, basically whoever wins the coin toss has a massive advantage because then both matchups will be in their favor.

So we're going to change the process? I haven't reffed my matches yet so I'd like to know.

edit: oh future, well okay. I guess I'll make this post say I agree with the "give the players a right to choose their Pokemon when battling" idea going on!
