Brandon stood on the reffing stand in the ASB Arena, waiting for the trainers who would be battling here soon to arrive. Although the tournament was still running, the ASB Arena was still available for practice matches. As the first trainer, rewindman, arrived and began to prepare, Brandon reviewed the rules for the matchup.

Dan soon arrived as well, and while he prepared Brandon looked around the arena. The ASB Arena was empty save himself and the two trainers preparing to battle, as this was merely a practice match. The arena floor was made of hard-packed dirt, perfect for digging through, and a moat surrounded the arena, making Water-type moves like Surf possible. As the battlers decided on their first two Pokemon, Brandon checked the teams for the battle.

As Brandon and Tuskstrike looked on, four Pokemon hit the field. Dan sent out his Roselia, Mia, and Togetic, Marcia, while rewindman responded with Saffron the Salamence and Buzz the Electivire. However, before any of the other Pokemon could react, Mia started to glow! When she came back into view, she was no longer a Roselia but instead a Roserade! "That should help Dan out a fair bit," Brandon mused. "Not sure if it's enough to get him a win, but we'll find out!" Now the fastest Pokemon on the field, Mia started off the round with a Stun Spore on Buzz! The spores made contact, paralyzing Buzz! Meanwhile, Saffron kept to herself, using Dragon Dance to boost her Attack and Speed! Marcia decided to begin the offensive, striking Buzz with a Tri Attack, but the Electivire shrugged it off and used Light Screen! "That'll make it awfully hard for Dan to hurt rewindman's Pokemon, especially since both of Dan's Pokemon primarily use Special attacks," Brandon said to himself. Tuskstrike nodded in agreement as the next round commenced.

Saffron, now fastest after the Dragon Dance, flew up into the air, and not a moment too soon as Mia fired a Toxic her way, only to miss! Continuing the assault on Buzz, Marcia fired a Flamethrower at the Electivire, but it glanced off the psychic shield, not doing a whole lot of damage. Buzz, meanwhile, fought off the paralysis a second time to Ice Punch Mia, and this was quickly followed up by the finish of Saffron's Fly attack! Tuskstrike cringed at the impact as the Salamence crashed into the Roserade, and Brandon thought to himself, "Mia's going to go down quickly if rewindman keeps this up."

Yet again, Saffron flew up into the air, but this time Mia's attention was directed at Buzz, smacking him with a Hidden Power! Marcia joined in with a Tri Attack, but the shield held strong and protected Buzz from the brunt of the assault, and he fought through the paralysis yet again to hit Mia with a Fire Punch! Mia staggered, but found the power to stay on her feet, only to get assaulted a second time by Saffron's Fly! She was unable to take the second blow, and fell to the ground, knocked out! "Wow, that was quick," Brandon muttered. "Dan's already down a Pokemon and the match has only just started. And it doesn't look to be getting any easier with a Combusken as his third Pokemon. Still, let's see what he can do." Brandon and Tuskstrike watched as Dan recalled his Roserade, and they waited for the next Pokemon to come out. However, as he glanced over to rewindman's side of the field, he noticed that in addition to the paralysis, Buzz seemed to be poisoned as well. "He must have activated Mia's Poison Point with that last Fire Punch," Brandon realized. "I guess this is her way of getting the last laugh. We'll see how much it helps though!"

Alright Buzz, start out with a powerful Eartquake, dealing damage to that blaziken. Then hit the Blaziken with a thunder Bolt, and finally strike it with one last Eartquake!
If it tries to counter your earthquake, hit it with a thunder bolt instead! If blaziken happens to be KO'd from the beating, replace the remaining actions with thunder punch against togetic!

Dan sent out his third and final Pokemon, Calill the Combusken, but like Mia before her, she began to glow upon hitting the field, evolving into a Blaziken! Not impressed, Saffron hammered the newcomer with a massive Hydro Pump, drenching Calill. Calill prepared for an attack while Marcia used Yawn on Saffron, making it drowsy! Buzz, still fighting the effects of paralysis, went for an Earthquake, but not only did Saffron and Marcia both fly over it, but Calill also managed to avoid it by virtue of being in the air to execute a Hi Jump Kick! However, in her attempt to avoid the Earthquake, she hadn't aimed properly, and she missed, crashing into the ground and taking damage!

Saffron, going back to a tried and true strategy, flew up! Yet again Calill was waiting to be attacked, so Marcia filled the gap by using Encore on Buzz! As much as Buzz wanted to follow his trainer's orders and use Thunderbolt on Calill to avoid the incoming Counter, he couldn't resist the allure of the Encore, and went for another Earthquake! This time Calill took the blow, glowing as he absorbed the energy from the attack! Saffron swooped down as well, striking Calill with her Fly attack, but it only made the glow brighter, and then Calill unleashed a massive Counter on Buzz! Buzz fell to the ground, but somehow, even after poison took its toll, managed to stand, hanging by a thread!

Saffron, hoping to finish off the Blaziken, hit both her and Marcia with a Rock Slide, but Calill hung on and began to glow just as she had last turn. Marcia, taking advantage of the fact that Saffron was no longer in the air, used a Thunder Wave to paralyze her. Then Buzz, almost down for the count, pulled off a final Earthquake! The blow struck Calill, and try as she might she just couldn't stay up, falling to the ground knocked out! Buzz smiled, having taken out two of Dan's Pokemon, before being knocked out itself by the poison! Meanwhile, Saffron fell asleep, but it looked to only be a light sleep; already she was starting to stir. As rewindman and Dan both recalled their fainted Pokemon, Brandon looked at Tuskstrike, finding him asleep as well. "Heh, looks like that Yawn got you too, huh?" Brandon said to his sleeping Pokemon. Turning back to the field, he mused, "Dan's in trouble now; rewindman's Salamence is still at full health, and he still has a completely fresh Pokemon on top of that, while Dan just has his Togetic. Still, who knows what will happen."

rewindman sent out his final Pokemon, Mac the Porygon-Z, and it started off the round without a second thought, pouring all its love for its trainer into a Return! The blow hit Marcia hard, but she stayed strong and fired a Tri Attack at Saffron! The attack hit the sleeping Salamence, and one of the beams even burned her! However, she slept through her action regardless!

Changing up his tactics, Mac hit Marcia with an Ice Beam! Yet again, Marcia kept at it, and this time she waggled her finger, calling a Metronome! Brandon waited to see what move would be called, but Marcia started to glow an icy blue, charging for the move! Meanwhile, Saffron woke up, and clawed Marcia with a Dragon Claw, but it didn't stop her from completing her attack; a massive Ice Burn! The attack enveloped Saffron, freezing her to the core and doing massive damage!

Mac once again smacked Marcia with a Return, and while the Togetic was still able to stay up, it was clear she wouldn't be able to much longer. Yet again, she waggled her finger, using Metronome, and this time she let out a loud screech. The Perish Song ingrained itself into the head of all the Pokemon, ensuring that they would faint in three rounds! Hoping to avoid that fate, Saffron crushed Marcia under a Rock Slide, but somehow the Togetic hung on, fluttering back into the air in spite of her stronger opponents. She could barely keep herself up, however; one more attack would surely do her in.

Mac prepares icy energy in his mouth, ready to strike the final blow on Marcia, while Saffron looks on, still nursing her burn. However, before she can react Mac turns on her, hitting her directly with the Ice Beam! Marcia, seeing an opportunity, adds on her own Tri Attack Feeling betrayed as she realizes what is happening, Saffron nonetheless obeys her master and chills, hoping it will be quick and painless. However, Mac merely chills the next round, allowing Marcia to fire a second Tri Attack at Saffron. The mighty Salamence fights every fiber of her being, screaming at her to end the puny Togetic and avoid being knocked out, but yet again she obeys her master and chills, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she'll be spared. However, Mac puts her out of her misery, firing off a Discharge that hits both Saffron and Marcia, leaving them both knocked out and winning the match for rewindman. Brandon stomped off in disgust, unable to believe that a Trainer would willingly KO one of his own Pokemon.
