Got an idea for a show on the Smogcast? Want to contribute your sexy voice and thoughts to the Pokemon world? Here's your chance!

If you have an idea for a show, make a nice post in this thread with the title of your show and a short description of what the show would be about. Example:

Show Title: Theorymon's Crazy Uber Set Monthly
Show Description: Theorymon and friends discuss the current Uber metagame and what new completely unique and cool set Theorymon will invent in order to shake it up. Get advance knowledge of the next driving force in Ubers!

If you just have an idea for a show that you want other people to do, since there's not a lot of manpower in the Smogcast right now I'd prefer you hold off on posting it.

If you have ideas to improve or augment currently existing shows, like the OU and UU monthly Metagame Analysis, post in the show's respective threads.

Some rules (I'll delete your suggestion if you don't stick to these):
1. Flesh out the description of your show. I don't want a rewording of the show's title as your description, I want a basic synopsis of how the show will go. Almost an outline. Think about your show's structure and content before you submit.
2. Make sure your show is neither something that's "completely outclassed" by text, nor redundant with a current Smogon guide. Podcasts are more social and entertaining than statistics and similar information.
3. The Smogcast will not be covering things that are more easily accessible elsewhere, such as: Latest News, coverage of publically discussed policy review stuff, etc. The Smogcast is all about providing in-depth analysis of the metagame in an easily digestible format, and other than potentially minor coverage of the Smogon Premier League, we'd like to keep it that way.
4. Discussion of policy is banned on the Smogcast.

After you propose your idea, I guess I'll PM you with more details if it's a good idea.

I'm just going to throw out random ideas when I think of them. Won't throw out any I wouldn't actually do though, of course.

Show Title: Supreme Dirt's Wrong Ability Trolling
Show Description: Basically, I'd talk about the benefits of using the "wrong" ability on certain Pokémon. For example - and I'm fully aware I'm using an unreleased DW ability here - Flame Body Heatran stuck out to me. You lose the benefit of being able to switch into fire moves. However, an Eccentric Ditto or Porygon2 with Trace thinking it can just switch in for free will be in for a surprise. In addition, being able to come in on a number of non-fighting or ground type physical moves, many of which happen to be contact moves, and have a 30% chance of automatically crippling the foe is a pretty nice bonus. This is just a quick example off the top of my head of course, I'd probably have many more examples of where this could be useful. It'd just be a way of looking at overlooked "troll" abilities.

Eh, it seems too specific, limited, and not really that helpful as that kind of situation is usually something either not useful outside of an NCMS thread, or is good enough that everyone knows about it already. We're looking more for things that can benefit from actual discussion while being educational and entertaining.

We're looking more for discussion and less for "some guy talks about something" as well.

I'd be willing to (with SD's help) do a big one on pokemon that are perhaps not quite up to par, but tons of fun to use and actually quite effective, like Aggron, Poliwrath, Jumpluff, and other fairly useful but usually outclassed pokemon. Also, someone, not necessarily me, should do something on UU. Or NU.

Finally, Primeape gets Overheat. Not Flamethrower. Not Fire Blast. Just Overheat. WTF?!?

I would think a smogcast on mafia or whats happening in circus maximus would be a good idea. Its a pretty large part of smogon's community and alot of people dont know much about it.

Show Description: Possibly a public address from Phil on recent PR decisions, the leadership position he is in and the impact that his decisions will have. Future process and tiering decisions he is thinking about.

I doubt this will ever be done, but I would be interested

Not gonna happen. The Smogcast is for discussing the metagame and the actual game of Pokemon. It will not become a platform for policy arguments, decision-making drama, and arguments about the rules. The Smogcast is about Pokemon, not about Smogon.

If the little cup gets an edition, why not have one dedicated to the "other" metagame? I'm a UU battler personally, and I think that OU is, well, over-used. So why not? Go on....

someday - we tried in 4th gen but couldn't get the panelists together, and right now it's kind of a dead period between metas

Description: The Smogcasters should look for some overlooked and underappreciated Pokemon that are good in gen 5. I think this would be very beneficial because it will move the metagame away from a few bog standard pokes, and into the world of possibilities.

Show Title: cco's Ladder Primer
Show Description: I and possibly a more experienced smogon/smogcast member take a look at the most used pokemon on the Smogon ladder, and discuss ways to counter the current metagame, touching on little-used and little-known pokemon who can bring something to any team in the current metagame. This could also include interviews with top ladder players, asking them what they used to climb their way to the top, primarily about the current OU metagame, but with special episodes in the events of things like suspect tests, as well as occasionally having an Ubers, UU or Little Cup Episode.

Looking at it, it seems a bit bland, the point is finding somewhat gimmicky counters to the metagame, an anti-metagame so to speak.

I just thought of another idea, perhaps it makes up for my terrible idea!

Title: Tournament Update
Show Description: I and maybe some other people chat about tournaments giving our predictions, a bit of friendly banter, and also talking about ongoing or upcoming tournaments, perhaps picking tournaments with special twists (such as the recently wrapped-up Terrorist Cup) and making predictions as to what kind of Pokemon will see the most use.

The former podcast is essentially every OU podcast ever done, and the latter has been proposed by Tournament Directors before and I'd rather they run it since they run the tournaments themselves...

I think having an episode for a crash course in any meta (past gens, BW UU when it comes out, BW ubers, ect.) would be pretty useful, as having a few experts get together to give some background info would be really helpful to people trying to get into the meta.

I actually second auramaster's idea for a VGC 11 podcast. SPL is starting very soon and two slots are devoted to VGC 11, a meta very few smogoners are informed about.

One thing that caught my attention in this last test was how differently the two pools of voters treated Drizzle:

Members with previous Policy Review Access: Drizzle: 21 Bans, 3 Do Not Bans, and 3 Abstains

Members without previous PR Access: Drizzle: 3 Bans, 14 Do Not Bans, and 6 Abstains

Such a distinct split in the voting makes it seem like there's a real duality among the better players in the metagame between "old school" and "new school", and this (and the Drizzle/Manaphy controversy in general) could be an interesting part of a podcast, maybe part of a larger one talking about the Suspect test process and changes in the metagame due to the bans in Stage 1 and development over the past couple months in general.
