Why aren't the VGCs triple battles?

One would've expected that Nintendo would've made triple battles the standard of the VGCs, why didn't they?

Somehow, I can't see this question provoking too much debate. They've picked doubles, and we're all pretty happy with it, so, it looks to stay that way . There is a Triple Battle thread in the GBU subforum if you're interested in it as a metagame though.

Going to just lock this now...
