Default Gothitelle QC (0/3)

Gothitelle

[Overview]
  • Its a Goth
  • Not as bulky or supporty as Uxie
  • Not as boosty as Duosion or Musharna
  • Not as powerful (or sexy) as Gardevoir
  • Not as Trick Roomy as Beheeyem
  • So its pretty outclassed
  • Crap Ability
  • Standard Psychic type movepool
  • Super Slow
  • No instant recovery aside from Rest

[SET]
name: Offensive Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Psychic / Psyshock
move 3: Dark Pulse
move 4: Hidden Power Fighting
item: Leftovers
ability: Frisk
nature: Modest
evs: 252 Hp / 4 Def / 252 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Still pretty outclassed by Gardevoir, only has better bulk to differentiate itself
  • Calm Mind once or twice while taking a hit or two
  • Psychic is the STAB move of choice although Psyshock hits Special Walls like Munchlax harder
  • Dark Pulse gets coverage on other Psychics and Ghost types
  • Hidden Power Fighting grants Gothitelle perfect coverage and a super effective hit on Dark and Steel types

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • Thunderbolt can be used to strike bulky Waters and Flying types hard
  • Grass Knot can be used to trip up fat Pokemon like Rhydon
  • Evs and Nature mean that Gothitelle can hit hard
  • HP evs improve Gothitelles impressive bulk
  • Dark and Steel types should be removed so a powerful Fighting type such as Hitmonlee is a good team mate
  • Phazers can remove any boosts that Gothitelle has accumulated

[SET]
name: Trick Room
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Psychic / Psyshock
move 3: Dark Pulse
move 4: Hidden Power Fighting
item: Leftovers
ability: Frisk
nature: Quiet
evs: 252 Hp / 4 Def / 252 SpA
ivs: 30 Def / 30 SpA / 30 SpD / 2 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Uses Bulk to differentiate form Beheeyem although suffers from competition with Mesprit
  • Can set up Trick Room multiple times with its good bulk
  • Can attack pretty hard and fast under Trick Room
  • Can be both a supporter and an attacker

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • Teammates that function well under Trick Room include Rampardos and Marowak
  • A bulky spread of 252 Hp / 252 Def / 4 SpD with a Bold Nature can be used to maximize Gothitelles bulk,
  • Unfortunately Gothitelle has no move that can bring in sweeper safely, like Healing Wish or Memento

[Other options]
  • A bulky Calm Mind set is totally outclassed by Duosion as Gothitelle is vulnerable to status and has no reliable instant healing
  • Fake Tears to force switches
  • Dual Screens set with Light Clay can be used although it has nothing special over other dual screeners
  • Can use Charge Beam but Calm Mind is better
  • Magic Coat can catch Special attackers by surprise but generally only works once per match

[Checks and Counters]
  • Most Dark types can easily maul Gothitelle but should be wary of switching into Hidden Power Fighting
  • Specially bulky Pokemon like Clefable can easily weather Gothitelles assualts unless it is running Psyshock or has boosted numerous times
  • Toxic cripples Gothitelle
  • Most Steel Types can take a Hidden Power fighting and hit Gothitelle on its weaker defensive side

[Dream World]
  • Shadow Tag turns Gothitelle from zero to hero instantly standing out from the crowd of other Psychic types. Gothitelle can easily come in on a choice locked fighting or psychic move and set up Calm Minds while the opponent can do nothing

Calm Mind is 101% outclassed by Mesprit, and offensive CM just isn't a very good strategy right now to begin with because of the prevalence of Honchkrow and Krookodile.

Trick Room is just not very good, it's not powerful and not really that bulky either. Slowking certainly does it better, among others. Just because a Pokemon gets Trick Room doesn't mean it needs a set.

Probably gonna reject this, but I'll give it a day first in case you or someone else disagrees and wants to argue for it.

That just means you're allowed to try, it doesn't guarantee it'll get approved.

Im pretty sure thats the ones in the rejected list
This one wasnt from the rejected list which means it should get an analysis
Im not denying that its outclassed so you can reject it if you want

Umm, why are you arguing against Honko? Seems kinda silly epsecially when you're wrong in this case. Gothitelle is allowed an analysis, but it can get rejected at any time. Every Pokémon on the "NU Pokemon available for an RU analysis" list can get rejected; it's not a guaranteed for an analysis list if you think that. Like Honko said.

I was wondering, would using magic room would be viable at all? If you can't remember (I couldn't) magic room's effect it's the one that takes away the effect of items for five turns. I'll admit at first I was like 'why would I do that to myself?' but after thinking about it a bit more it doesn't seem that bad.

First case for using magic room: it takes away the boost from eviolite when in effect. Some of the best walls in the tier use this item such as Gligar, Munchlax and Ferroseed.

Second case: takes away the effects of choice items. This can be useful on both you and your opponents. Taking away your opponents choice item obviously doesn't hurt them too much, just takes away their power/speed. Your pokes, however, can be tailor-made to abuse this. Lets use Scyther as an example: with a set SD, bugbite aerial ace and brick break/u-turn and holding a choice scarf, Scyther can come into magic room, dance, then attack before magic room wears off. The next turn it'll be locked into its attack with a boosted attack and speed. Also, Scyther can still function as a revenge killer too when there is no magic room.

Third reason to consider magic room: a team built for magic room can still function outside of magic room. Compare that to trick room, which is going to be disadvantaged greatly by the loss of its trick room setters.

I don't know if magic room is a worthy condition to be setting up, but if it is then Gothitelle is one of 3 fully evolved pokes that can set it, along with Mr. Mime and Lunatone. Of these 3, Gothitelle has the best overall bulk and could, in theory, come in the most times to reset it if necessary.

Offensive CM is outclassed by Mesprit and Gardevoir who have better movepools and are capable of hurting stuff like Krookodile and Honchkrow significantly harder on the switch-in. It's also inferior to most defensive users of Calm Mind, as stuff like Duosion and Musharna significantly outclass it thanks to their access to (semi) reliable recovery.

The offensive Trick Room set isn't very good either. Basically any other OTR abuser in the tier is superior - Beeheeyem has a slightly better movepool, and can actually blast through stuff with Trick Room up, Duosion is a bit bulkier, especially with Eviolite, and can hit most walls harder, and even, say, Slowking has a more diverse and useful movepool for using an OTR set.

It's just really a bad mon.
